With blades crafted of S30V steel, the Zipper boasts a 4-1/8" partially serrated guthook blade with a rubberized handle and brushed brass butt and guard. Developed by Crucible Steel, S30V is made up of metallic powders fused together under intense pressure and heat. It is tempered under extremely high temperatures then cooled in a cryogenic freezer. The resulting metal delivers a fine combination of edge retention (45% greater than 420HC), flexibility and hardness (59-61 Rockwell) while remaining easy to sharpen with conventional stones. This steel also has a high chromium content for oxidation resistance. For even greater corrosion resistance, each knife is treated with a titanium aluminum nitride coating. Our field testing and independent Cutlery Allied Trade Research Association tests prove these knives outperform those crafted with other blade metals. It also comes with a Cordura® nylon sheath. Made in USA. Overall length: 8-1/2". Weight: 6.6 oz.

Alaskan Guide S30V,December 3, 2008
By Bluesboy65from San Antonio, TX
"Last year I had to stop half way through skinning my deer to sharpen an old Case knife. This year I bought the Alaskan Guide Zipper with the rubber handle and skinned three deer before I needed to sharpen the amazing S30V steel. I chose the zipper with the serrated edge because I wanted one knife that would do it all ... and it does. I read one review that seemed to have problems with the serrated edge snagging on things but I had no such problem - I don't skin on the heel of the knife but I do use the heel for heavy cutting through the deer sternum and it works like a champ! The circumferential portion of the drop pointed blade is super sharp, sturdy and breezes through the hide. The gut hook is really nice and helps keep the bowels in tact when you field dress your deer. I love the beauty of wooden handled knifes but opted for the extra grip provided by the rubber handle in my "one world, one knife" quest. Another great product from Cabela's!"

I'm excited,October 18, 2008
By NRAsupporter
"10-18-08 got my first deer of the year this morning, a doe. Used the Alaskan Guide Zipper Knife w/rubber handle to field dress it. WOW! It's like all I had to do was hang on. Cut through the pelvic bone, no problem. When any of the entrails hung up all you had to do was touch the part hung up to cut it. Best hunting knife I believe I have ever owned. I'm so excited about it, I'm thinking of stopping along the road and field dressing a couple of road kills!"

Solid Knife,June 17, 2008
By Anonymousfrom Oregon
"New out of the box, the blade had a few scuff marks on it that wouldn't rub off. It was not bad enough for me to return it and wait for another one though; otherwise the knife was as advertised. It is super sharp and feels like it was made for my hand. My only other complaint is that the colored engraving on the blade is kinda cartoonish, hopefully the color will fade after some use."

whisper biscuit,December 27, 2007
By pfocker
"wow, was I impressed! as I pulled out the blade, I left a wisper buscuit by my feet! This is by far my best whisper biscuit - it's overall strength was quite impressive! all the deer ran away, no elephants to be found -- only me, my whisper buscuit and my knife remained."

Excellent Knife,December 3, 2007
By Gerald110from Lafayette, Louisiana
"I have skinned 4 deer this year with my new knife and the new S30V Steel blade is very sharp and holds an edge. I love the rubber grip for a sure grip and also the partially serrated blade which helps cut thru fur and tenons. I'd recommend this knife to all hunters."

Great knife,November 29, 2007
By 308Marksmanfrom South Dakota
"There is not another knife in this ones league. On average I gut and skin 8-12 deer a year. I sharpen the knife before deer season and it holds its edge through the entirety of the season. The gut hook is amazing, and besides being extremely sharp and durable, its appearance is perfect. A great knife and worth every penny."

Best I've Used,November 18, 2007
By ShaneCfrom Missouri
"Cleaned 2 deer back to back and it still shaves the hair on your arms. I had never used a gut hook before, but once I got the hang of it, saved a lot of time and didn't have to worry about puncturing anything that might foul the meat. Love the serration. Very aggressive and will go through the rib cage in a flash. The rubberized handle is a must, and was much easier to control than a standard wood handle. Have not sharpened yet (No need), but will be interested to see how easy it is."

Cabela's Alaskan Guide Series Zipper Knife,November 29, 2006
By Jaggfrom Montrose, Co
"The knife worked flawlessly on an elk, the blade was sharp out of the box and the wider gut hook is an improvement over the narrow style I am used to using. I then went on an antelope hunt and used the same knife to gut and skin my animal (without sharpening it) and again it worked great. The only complaint I have with the knife is I wish it didn't have the serrated portion of blade. I'm sure I'll get used to it, I just felt I could use a little more cutting area."

Review Cabela's Alaskan Guide Series Zipper Knife,November 27, 2006
By MAMoosemanfrom Massachusetts
"I had being searching for a knife that would tackle all of my outdoor needs, from a good camp knife to a top level butchering knife. This knife is able to tackled the toughest butchering jobs. This year I used it on a self guided moose trip in which I caped, zipped, and quartered a 934 pound bull. The knife was razor sharp and held and edge, the tough rubberized grip made holding the knife in slippery conditions a breeze. This is the most versatile and well constructed knife I have ever owned. From Whitetail to the king of deer, this knife has done the trick this season and I know many more to come. Andy Massachusetts"

Great Knife,November 14, 2006
By ShootLefty7
"For the longest time I was looking for a good all around hunting knife and this one was it. The new S30V blade is super sharp right out of the box and since its a knife manufactured by Buck Knives it comes with a lifetime warranty. I love the fact that it has a gut hook and serrated blades in the back. Most people think that the serrated blades are hard to sharpen but I also purchased and sharpened that is able to keep them razor sharp. The last great feature on this knife is the rubber handle. Although some that are similar to this knife have a rosewood handle and look nicer, when you are dressing your harvest the rubber grib allows you to hold onto the knife without it slipping. If you are in the market for a serious hunting knife, you can't beat this one."
