Cherry Knife...,

"I recently bought the BUCK Alaskan Guide Series Alpha knife from Cabelas. From the first moment I took it out of the beautiful high quality leather sheath, I could see the workmanship and time put into the design of this knife. From the high quality steel to the beautiful wood handle. Its almost too nice to use. The weight and feel of this knife in your hand is perfect. Not to mention the edge of this blade is razor sharp and will easily cut through any game you might take down. It holds the edge really well and stays sharp long after the first use. This knife is what we call in Hawaii "CHERRY" and is well worth the price. This is definitly the last hunting knife you will need to buy for yourself. Im thinking about getting a few more as gifts this holiday season. Much mahalo to BUCK and Cabelas for putting out this awsome knife.

"I really looked at this knife for a long time before buying it. Buck is such a great name and they make great pruducts. I wanted a knife for deer hunting and caping that also had a gut hook. The quality is spectacular and it has a great edge to it."

"All I can say is wow this knife is sharper then a razor blade straight from the factory! no lie. I have used this knife over and over and it stays as sharp as it did when i got it. the look and feel are unmatchable. I love buck and would back there product any day! the price is a little high but it is well worth it."

"This is a beautiful knife. Very functional feel to hold and comes out of the box with an exceptional edge (will cut paper). I bought this as a gift for my Son thinking it will be something he will keep his entire hunting career and maybe pass on some day. I am very pleased with the look and feel for the dollars."

"Have just had this knife couple of weeks but have field dressed several deer already and it seems to have held its edge so far. Gut hook works like a charm. Only regret is handle and sheath are so nice I feel bad about getting them dirty."

"A fellow deer hunter buddy of mine nicknamed this knife Excalibur because it is so sharp. You will be able to easily shave the hair off the back of your hand with this knife. I am not kidding. We were surprised when it did this with not much effort. A nice knife to use that has a good look to it. The gut hook is also very sharp and works well. Cleaning game is like using a razor blade. Cleaning ducks to deer is very easy. Skin separates simply from meat with light slices. I am buying this knife for my buddy so he will have his own Excalibur. When he said that a knife like this could be passed on to your son as a family heirloom, it made it very hard for me to not get him this knife as a Xmas gift after helping me so much with my first deer hunt this year. You cannot go wrong here. Well worth the money."

Unbelieveable blade,

"When I opened the box and slid this knife into my palm, I was a little disappointed in the both the size and weight. Normally preferring a blade with more substance, I nearly boxed it back up for an exchange. That was when the beauty of the rosewood handle caught my eye. The handle fits nicely in my palm and even though it is a bit light, you don't get too much of a feel like something is missing. Quite the contrary actually. You almost feel like you are cheating on some exam, without really knowing how. I then put the blade through numerous practical and unpractical tests to gauge use and sharpness. This knife indeed passed every sharpness test I with flying colors. Only one test remains: that of gutting and skinning out a deer. That should come very soon, although I have every confidence that this blade will be up to the task and then some. Highly recommended!"

"This knife is almost to pretty to use,but don't let that deceive you.I used it to trim branches for a clearer field of fire then field dressed 5 good sized deer,it cut through everything like it was butter and held it's edge.It would make a great gift for any sportsman;I would buy a longer version if one was available.GREAT KNIFE !"

"This is a very nice knife. I thinned the edge down as low as I could get it without scratching the side of the blade and I then starting batoning with it. (splitting wood by hitting the top of the blade with a stick) It went though a lot of wood as well as very hard knots. I didn't baby it either. I figured if the edge chipped out so be it.
Well it came through without any damage. The sides had scrape marks on it but the edge held up very well and was still shaving sharp! It comes with a very nice sheath too. My only problem with this knife is the gut hook, this feature does not impress me at all, though it does work.
If Cabela's can get these without the gut hook the sales will double, this knife is that good. Then I will buy another and try to squeeze in an extra star. :-)"

"I originally bought this knife for myself when I was looking for a good hunting knife with a gut hook. I collect knives, so I'm pretty discerning when it comes to quality. I was greatly impressed by the balance, and the weight is perfect for me. The blade holds an edge amazingly well, it actually cleaned 5 deer in a row one night without having to be sharpened. When I did sharpen it later it still didn't take much to get it sharp.
This past Christmas I actually bought one for each of my two brothers, my dad, and my brother-in-law. The knife is so beautiful and functional it made the perfect gift.
The only bad thing I have to say about it (and it was probably my brother's fault in all reality) is that one of my brothers actually broke small pieces of the blade edge off. He said he was splitting a deer's hips when it busted the first time right next to the handle. His next deer it did it a little higher, and on another deer it did the same a little higher up. I'm assuming he probably used the darn thing like a hatchet, but you never know.
I bought him the same thing this year, but the Buck version as it's offered in stainless. It won't hold an edge nearly as well as the S304V... but it won't break either and it's cheaper. He deserves it!"
