HIGH QUALITY KNIFE,November 18, 2009
By mttccfrom n.c.
"I purchased the gerber freeman folder for myself and my assistant as an end of the year gift. I saw the knife online and liked the look and high quality of it. It was a little pricey but after I read the reviews decided to order two of these. The s30v steel was the selling point for me. After recieving the knives I was extremely pleased. The knife surpassed my expectations and was THE sharpest knife right out of the box that I have ever owned. I use this knife as an every day carry blade and love it."

Great Knife,October 21, 2009
By bowman400from Olympia, Wa
"I own several different folders that are all high quality but this knife breaks the mold. This knife is heavy, it is much more like a tool than a pocket knife, it is heavily reinforced. When opened it is more like a fixed blade than any other folder I have handled. The S30V steel is durable and holds a great long lasting edge. This is a true outdoorsman folder no pocket clip needed you wear it in a sheath on a belt and I wouldn't have it any other way with this knife. If you want a strong well built knife this is the one to buy."

"Sharp" is not a strong enough word...,June 10, 2009
By PhilBfrom Frisco, TX
"This blade is great. Last fall I skinned 3 deer (1 Buck / 2 Does ), and a turkey, and the blade was still razor sharp. The knife is well balanced and the checkered grip keeps the knife stable when wet.
I am sold on S30V steel, my other hunting knives to not compare to the Gerber.
The tungsten carbide coating is exclusive to Cabela's - it's a nice feature."

Gerber Freeman,March 24, 2009
By vthompsonfrom Huntington,WV.
"I ordered one of the Gerber Freeman folding knives, and I fell in love with it as soon as I took it out of the box. It is a great looking knife, and it feels good in my hand. It came razor sharp from the factory and the weight is balanced real well. It came with a real nice leather sheath, but I am going to carry it in my pants pocket because I am going to make it my every day carry knife. I would highly recommend this knife to anyone looking for a real nice knife for everyday use. You may think that it is a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. It is a well built knife. On a scale of 1 through 10, I would have to give it a 10."

Great Knife, Great Value,March 20, 2009
By elbowroomfrom Seattle, Washington
"The picture doesn't do this knife justice. It is beautifully manufactured with attention to detail. If you're looking for S30V steel, there is no better value out there. The unique cocobolo wood handles offer a very comfortable grip due to the finger indents, and the color is a very deep, dark, redish brown. VERY NICE. This knife is no lightweight, but has a very well balanced heft. The blade easily snaps open with a reassuring crisp and solid motion. The included high quality dark brown leather pouch can be worn either vertically, or horizontally, or the knife easily drops into your back pocket. It's not too big, and definitely, not too small. If you purchase this knife you won't be disappointed"

QUALITY,February 17, 2009
By Anonymousfrom MA
"This knife is very sturdy, and super sharp. It feels natural in your hand because of the thickness and wooden grips. I have the regular Freeman Folder, and I was slightly dissapointed by the finish on this S30V version... The handles are slightly chipped, and the finish on the blade is impossible to keep clean. However, both serve their purpose as designed extremely well, and better than most."

All around great blade!,February 15, 2009
By masterteepofrom Olathe, KS
"I actually purchased one of these fine blades a few years ago when they first started selling them. I needed some cash and sold several of my nicer knives, including this one. Big mistake, in this case. I have regretted selling it ever since, and am happy to say I finally just purchased another.
I considered buying the "regular" freeman folder because it is less than half of the price of the S30V model, but this knife is superior in just about every way. The steel, the finish, the cocobolo wood grips, and even the dark leather sheath are all better in my opinion. It is not only functional, but a high quality beautiful piece. It has a nice almost vintage look to it, as though it looks like it was made to be issued to troops in World War II.
If anything detracts from this knife, it would have to be the locking mechanism on the underside of the knife. I agree with other reviewers that this is not necessarily the safest method of locking. Still, as long as you are careful when closing it shouldn't be a problem.
All in all a fantastic knife. You'd have to buy a custom blade at 3 or 4 times the cost to get anything better, I think."

Yep...this is the one you should get.,January 29, 2008
By FredInFLA
"Amazing knife... Gerber hit a home run on this one. There are only minor improvements that could be made. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the scales/grips seem a little slippery in my hand when wet. If they fully checkered the grips, it would be better. Also, my linerlock needed to be ground down a bit to ensure it stayed in a locked position since it wasn't to my liking for safety reasons. It locked, but only partly. A little bump on the linerlock would snap it shut, and I didn't want this to happen during hard use. 5 minutes with a carefully used Dremel tool fixed this, and I assume it was just due to whoever was grinding that day in the factory (they didn't take enough metal off). As others have stated, this thing is SCARY sharp right out of the box and it stays that way! I can, and have shaved with it, even after use. Linerlock design makes knife cleanup after field-dressing a snap. I officially give it 4 and 3/4 stars out of 5. Spend the cash...you won't be disappointed with this one!"

Your Life May Never Depend On It...,January 26, 2008
By 6ryph0nfrom Fort Wayne, IN
"The most noticeable thing about this knife is its heft. This is one beefy blade, thick and tough enough to handle whatever you throw at it.
It's designed to fit your hand, with enough texture to give a positive grip, even when wet. The matte finished metal and checkered grips are eye catching as well. It's a real pleasure just to hold this knife in your hand, and even more so to put it to work.
It is wicked sharp, right out of the box, and holds and edge well. And when it finally needs a touchup, a few strokes with a ceramic stick and a strop will bring it back to a fine edge.
Your life may never depend on your pocket knife, but then again, it just might. This is the one I choose to carry."

gerber freeman s30v,January 15, 2008
By centurianwolf
"I have owned a great variety of knives over the years and while I am not a great fan of drop point blades this knife seems like it will easily do a variety of chores. It is well made with excelant marks for quality. It is well balanced. The grip is non slip and easy to hold. The blade locks in place securly when opened; but it requires you to have your thumb underneath the blade to unlock and close the knife. The knife should have a safer locking mechanisim. Make the wrong move or slip (especially with cold or wet fingers) while closing the knife and you could lay your thumb open. This locking method is what you find on cheepy knives. They never seem to last in the long haul. Maybe because of the quality this one will. Time will tell. It is definitely better than the buck folding knife I recently bought. Because of the cost of the knife with the cheepy locking device I can only give this knife a 4, barely."
