"I haven't worn them out hunting yet, but they do seem to be kind of thick to be a sock liner. I will update the review if they are a problem but seem like they will be good as a thick liner or a moderate cold weather sock."

"I'm a fan of wearing two socks and these are just the chaps for wearing under Cabelas' Merino mix outer socks. The Smartwool Merino mix kept my feet dry, warm and odour-free even when worn all day, every day for a week in temperatures down to -18 deg C. I do not recommend this, however, as they start to feel clammy at this point and it becomes a real pleasure to be re-united with one's luggage.
If one is off to freezy-wheezy places, I would recommend these whole-heartedly. They're warm, tough and comfy. Incidentally, these socks are warmer worn right-side out unlike some other liners where it is usual to wear them inside out to avoid seam blisters on one's toes."
