Vest OK Loaders Not,

"I bought the vest last year for hunting pheasants in Iowa. My brother had a similar vest and really liked the speedloaders.
I will tell you that Cabela's's version of the speedloader is poorly executed. The cloth portion is oversized for shells and the plastic tubes are riveted too close to the bottom of the cloth. As a result, the shells do not feed well into the plastic tubes. Additionally, the plastic tubes are too small and you need to reef on the shells to get them out. Not easy when it's cold and you have gloves on! I tried spraying them with silicone and that helped, but that's an imperfect solution.
Overall, I would not recommend the vest if the speedloaders are the central reason to purchase. Otherwise, the vest fits well and appears to be well made.
I just purchased Columbia's version of this vest. We'll see if it's any better executed."

"This is a pretty good vest and for the price it is hard to beat. It is a little heavy and the shell holders tend to wear out and let the shells fall through after a lot of use. For the price they cant be beat and the shell holders, even with the flaw are really useful."

"I haven't had it out in the field yet, but comparing it to my other vest that is similar to it, it seems well built. I like the 12ga to 20ga shot shell adapters. This is going to to be a welcome addition to my grouse gear this fall. The vest has has boat load of pockets. If I fill them all up I think I would weight another twenty pounds."

Nice idea, but....,

"Yes, we all want an easy and quick access to ammo, so the concept of a "rapidloader" seemed like a good one. After a recent field try-out, I can say this: it is anything BUT easy and quick! The shells would not come out at all. Now, I, of course, tested the vest at home before the hunt (something you should do with ANY new piece of equipment anyway) and it actually work pretty well - the shells came out smooth, although they do require a firm grip on them. So what went wrong? The temperature. At 70 degrees the plastic tubes through which shells suppose to come out remain flexible and the collars at the end of them split open easily, allowing the shells to come out. But when you are afield and there is 25-30 degrees out there, those plastic elements become rigid and it becomes almost imposible to pull those shells out. So for all you lucky guys that do not see the snow all year long - it may just work fine. For those of us who hunt in the snow - forget it. I'm going to remove those fancy "rapidloading-only-in fair-weather" tubes and stick to the tried and true shells-in-the-pockets drill. Otherwise the vest is a very nice garment, built of good quality fabric, with nice pockets, etc."

"I liked the idea about this vest so I bought it, and was disapointed. The tubes are to hard to pull the shells from. Especially hunting with gloves on. The shells also fall out from the loading flaps on top when you bend over. I like the loading system of the birds in the bag a lot. You don't need someone else to help get the birds in."

Rapid Loader Tubes Not so Hot,

"The vest was comfortable for hunting this pheasant season back in North Dakota (Mott is the Spot!). However I struggled at times to pull a new shell out of the Rapid Loader Tubes. I like the front access pockets for the birds and that the vest is lined inside, but I am more used to the old style elastic shell holders. Otherwise the vest was just fine.... Phenominal number of birds in NoDak this year. Just fantastic."
