Cabelas Space Rain Ultra Pack Jacket & Pant,December 23, 2008

"I used this rain wear on a local bow hunt for wild boar in California during a heay rain storm in December this year 2008. The rain wear did keep me dry and comfortable for the duration of the first day of the hunt however I found the rain wear to be very noisey, the bigger problem was the durability was a little to be desired. At the end of a two day hunt I basically ended up with the pants tourn from the knees to the crotch. The under arms in the jacket also showed a major amount of distress the sewing on the back of the shoulders came apart from my fanny pack straps tearing the material. The compactness it fantastic however a space blanket could serve the same puropse in an emergency. I would not buy this product again, I would opt for a higher quality rain gear than could take a little more abuse to the material."

"While the Space Rain jacket (and pants) may indeed be waterproof and and quite packable, they were way too noisey when rubbed against itself or vegetation for bowhunting. I returned them and bought the Rain Swede, which is much more quiet, slightly less packable, and more substantial as a jacket and pants to add warmth. The 3D Open Country is a very nice, overall lighter camo pattern which I think would help avoid the reportedly 'dark blob' appearance of many camo patterns, and would be especially effective in evergreen tree habitat. I would recommend the Space Rain for gunhunters in stands who want an easy off and on, packable rainsuit, but would not recommend it for stalking or still-hunting bowhunters."

"Quiet enough and quite light but not very tough. Developed rips on the shoulder. They were easily patched with duck tape. I would recommend the rain suede jacket over this one."

"I just returned from a hunting trip to New Zealand where I had a chance to try out my new Cabela's Space raingear - both Jacket and pants. They performed wonderfully on a rainy day duck hunting and I returned to the lodge completely dry despite a steady downpour throughout the day. Durability seems good as well although I will need a few more hunts under my belt with these along to know for sure. They are just as lightweight as advertised and easy to pack into two very small bags which are provided with the items."

"I purchased a pair of both the Ultra Pack Jacket and Pants because of the promise of light weight pack-ability and water proof breathe-ability. I used these on a trip to the UK and because of the light weight and small package when packed away in the included stuff sack they were always with me, even when sight seeing. They worked very well while hunting in the rainy mornings and evenings for Stag and Roebuck. Under these circumstances the Ultra Pack products worked wonderfully. However, when I took them on a hunt for Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep, the original purpose for which I purchased them, they proved to be no match for the mountain. After one day of use in the mountains they were leaking and torn and I was wet. I can recommend these for any hunting that is not too strenuous and not too rugged. The fabric is about as thick as a lawn and leaf bag, and about as strong against puncture. If you walk to a blind and sit or do some light still hunting these will work for you. But if you hunt rough country or hunt areas that are physically demanding, you had better consider some other product."

"The Cabelas Space Rain Ultra pack Jacket kept me dry in heavy rain at times during a recent New Mexico elk hunt. The jacket was usefull for layering and provided good wind protection. The jacket is very compact when stored and fits easily in a daypack. The material is prone to tearing when snagged by brush or thorns. This jacket is suitable for hunting in open country or hiking on cleared trails."
