summit bucksteps climbing sticks, November 2, 2009
By matt91 from Red Hook, NY

"Great steps - easy to put up, and handy for odd shaped trees. Only problem - if you're going to leave them in the woods make sure you lock them up!"

Good product, need to add a few things, September 30, 2009
By bowhunteradfasfsa from twin cities, mn

"They work great with my tree saddle. 4 doesn't get me quite as high as I would like, but carrying in more than 4 might be a pain. I sprayed down the steps with limbsaver silent armor and it reduces the metalic clanky noise by 90%. The only thing is, I would recomend trying to get the stock paint off before putting on the silent armor, otherwise the stock paint will chip and off comes the expensive armor. Best of luck hunting"

So far so good, July 29, 2009
By Anonymous from Wisconsin

"I have only used them for practice, but so far they have been well worth the price. I bought some Limb Savor silent armor to spray them down with and hopefully that prevents any accidental clanging from making to much noise in the woods. These are going to work great with my tree saddle."

Quality Product, December 8, 2008
By blackwidow27 from Wisconsin

"I purchased these steps shortly before the 2008 gun season here in Wisconsin. The area I hunt requires a long walk, about 1 mile in so portability and light weight are always a requirement. These steps did not disappoint. The steps nest together nicely and the included bag that holds all of the cam buckle straps while allowing them to be connected to the steps works great. I used a little felt on the contact points where the steps nest together and had no noise issues whatsoever. The steps also fit neatly on top of the portable stand I pack in. Setting up the steps was a breeze. Simply run the strap around the tree and attach to the step, pull tight and then pull the step down and you are ready to set up the next step. Taking the steps down is just as easy and so is nesting them back together for the hike out. However, I was only able to reach a height of about 12 feet with the steps not the advertised 16 feet. I am only 5'8" so a taller person with longer legs can probably reach a little higher. Overall, a very user friendly and efficient product."

Summit Bucksteps, November 19, 2008
By RJnOklahoma from Oklahoma

"Great product, construction... well made, very solid attached to tree. Increased safety and accessability especially for young hunters. I have been using strap on tree climbing steps and sticks for 3-three years and the size of these steps make it easier to transport and install. Steps give plenty of foot space. Thanks for a great product."

Summit Bucksteps Climbing Sticks, November 16, 2008
By Adirondackman from Upstate, NY

"These steps are very secure and work great. They work well on crooked trees where it would be hard to use ladder type steps. When installing the higher steps be sure to use a lineman's belt around the tree as getting the straps around the tree without twisting them can be challenging. Using the belt (which comes with summit tree stands) makes it much easier. The steps are noisy to transport if you don't secure the buckles and hooks. So secure them well and wrap some additional line or tape around the step to avoid having the hooks and buckles clang against the step and spooking game when moving into your area. Summit did a nice job of designing and manufacturing this product."

Great steps, October 25, 2008
By Hardwoods from Delaware

"These steps are terrific! Really easy to use, no damage to the tree, and plenty of room for your feet. I have used them only twice and I'm telling you, they make you feel very secure going up the tree. They slide down slightly when you step on them(an inch or so) and then tighten to the tree like nobodys business! I have read some reviews on these where folks have whined about the noise they make carrying them to the stand location. Let me make this clear, NON-ISSUE!!! Wrap them up and forget it. As a matter of a fact, I will be ordering a second set as soon as I finish with this review! The pre-rut activity has started, now have at it!"

They even work in Australia, May 5, 2008
By DownunderDan from Australia

"I got these for hunting in Australia. The trees there are covered in loose bark and the bush is very thick. But the light weight of the steps made it possible to carry them to the tree, quick and easy to attach to the tree and the secure holding system ensured they did the job.
Great product, only thing is that you need to buy some cotton fabric or similar to wrap them up in if you dont want to hear metal banging together.

Best Tree Steps, January 7, 2008
By Frankie1 from Winnipeg, Canada

"These steps are the safest, easiest ones that I have come across. The wide, solid steps make hanging a tree stand so much safer than sticks as you have a great platform for your foot/feet. They are more portable than ladders and go on the tree in a snap. Unfortunately, they do tend to clang and bang more than I would like when hanging them, which make stealth a bit of a problem. But, if you' re careful you can minimize the noise. By far the best method I have used for scaling a tree. I have 5 sets already."

crooked climbers, January 7, 2008
By groundzero298 from Michigan

"Excellent product. Way better then any climbing stick I've ever used. Very light, easily attached to the tree on the way up, can use on crooked tree's, climb through the crooks, use branches in between as step, and the best, you can spiral around the tree. Very sturdy, great construction."

Summit Bucksteps, November 29, 2006
By Windblown from Indiana

"I found the Summit Bucksteps Climbing Sticks to be user friendly and extremely versatile. The steps mount easily and make climbing irregularly shaped trees a breeze. Properly spaced, I had no problem climbing up to 18 feet. In addition, they're designed to allow you to stand with both feet on the same step, which makes mounting treestands a lot easier.

The steps fit comfortably within each other for easy transport, although an additional strap is needed to keep them nestled together.

Great climbing aid, November 25, 2006
By MHWOrion from St. Clair Shores, MI

"The fact that there are four indepedent sections makes climbing less than straight an easy job. The strap attaches quite easily which makes putting them up and taking them down simple. I can reach approximately 16 feet from the ground with the four steps. The feel very stable on the tree after you have put your weight on them. They do slide about an inch when appling your weight but never does it feel like they are doing anything but tightening up on the tree. You can only pull the strap so tight when putting them up. Once you apply your body weight and they adjust to the tree they do not move again."

Buck Steps, November 21, 2006
By AndyE from Northern Virginia

"This is a great product, but no one to be taken lightly. I purchased the Bucksteps Climbing Sticks and went straight out to use them. This was not one of my brighter ideas since unfamiliarity with the product added quite a bit of time to getting settled in the tree. This was also my first time using a lineman's rig (which is an absolute must for safety; both physical and mental as I felt more at ease). The tension straps used to secure each step to the tree are easy to use and stay in place without slipping. Once I got the steps set up and my stand hung, climbing down then back up with my gear was a breeze. The Bucksteps never slipped and surface of the step provided ample area for foot placement. All four steps fit together well and I was able to secure them to my stand for easy transport as a backpack into and out of the woods. This is a big plus since I am not allowed to use my ATV and walking in is the only option. My only recommendation is to practice using the steps prior to heading out before dawn and trying to set up in the dark."

Summit Buck Steps, November 20, 2006
By Vinn from Martinsburg, PA.

"These steps are very roomy to stand on,lightweight and easy to install.
The only thing negative I have to say about them is you can't get very high in tree with the 4 steps. I'm 6'-4" tall and can still only get about 12 to 13 feet.

Bucksteps, November 20, 2006
By Schmidty30 from South Bend, IN

"These climbing sticks are very easy to setup and use. They allow you to climb trees with irregular shapes and climb up them much faster than one could with having to use screw in steps. Overall a very good product, but I have the two following issues with this product: #1 If you bump up against anything in the woods (brush or limbs) or if the steps bang together at all it is very loud. Sounds like hitting an empty oil drum with a hammer. Issue #2, in the ad it states that you can easily reach a max of 16ft, well that may be if you have the steps set 3.5ft apart. I am 6ft1" with a 35" inseam and I can barely get to 12ft while having the steps spaced at my max leg reach and then being able to step down on to my treestand platform. The advertised height would be easily attained if the kit came with 6 sticks instead of only 4."

Perfect package for portability, October 30, 2006
By treeclimber from Eden Prairie, MN

"When searching for a better option to screw-in steps I considered many options like climbing sticks, ladders and various types of strap-on steps. My choice was the Summit Bucksteps.

I chose the Bucksteps because of their lightweight (10lbs) and their portability. You buy a set of four steps that nest together making a package that is just a couple inches wider than the platform of my hang-on stand and fit neatly tucked inside my folded up stand when I carry it on my back.

The steps are two seperate platforms with a post inbetween. This allows you to place a pair of stepping spots together yet you have the ability to place the next step as close or far up as you are comfortable. With just four steps I have hunted as high as 24 feet. They have nylon webbing with a metal hook that attaches to a loop on the side of the step post. Pull it tight in the cambuckle and you are locked in. These steps are easy to mount and don't cause any damage to the trees. I found this very important since screw-in steps are outlawed in many of the places I hunt. I also chose the Bucksteps because they are shorter by section than the other climbing sticks and ladders on the market and have a full stepping platform rather than a small narrow step. The Bucksteps easy handle trees with irregular shapes and many main branches. Also the step platform is large enough for me to stand with both feet on the platform with my size 12 boots.

The only problem that I have with this product is their loudness. The metal hooks and the cambuckles can bump against the steps while walking and create a loud hollow metal sound because of the all-metal steps. I have cut back on some of the noise by placing some thick fabric tape on the strap hooks and wrapping the step posts to avoid any metal on metal contact. This has worked well and helps the steps fit tighter while nesting too. Also the company provides a small fabric bag that goes on one of the steps to hoold your straps and the metal parts while beign stored. This is great for containing all the nylon webbing as well as having a small gear sack while on stand.

I think the Summit bucksteps are a great product for those who hunt with a hang on stand and need lightweight portability in their set-up. The size and weight are ideal and the ergonomics are great.
