Want mattress-like comfort in the backcountry? We knew you did, so we created the only self-inflating sleeping pads in the industry to accommodate the full width of our regular 34"- and larger 36"-wide sleeping bags, then cushioned them with super-soft 3-1/2"-thick open-cell foam. And don't think we forgot about couples - there's also a 54"-wide double pad. When you're ready to set up camp, simply open the valve on your sleeping pad and it automatically inflates for superior convenience. The outer shell is constructed of rugged cross-dyed polyester rip-stop material that's fully bonded to the foam. The shell material is textured to prevent sleeping bags from slipping or shifting on uneven ground, while the attached straps with buckles permit easy roll up and storage. In-the-field repair kit and stuff sack included. Imported.

    Pad, November 3, 2009
    By woodmanjohn from Northern Michigan

"Took it camping in the middle of Oct, temps in the mid 30's. It would not fully inflate. Love the width and length. Let a friend us my old smaller one that fully inflated in the summer and the same thing happened to it. Lesson learned. Just a warm weather friend."

    sleeping Pad, September 19, 2009
    By amberbud from North Carolina

"Overall a GREAT sleeping pad for road-side camping. Inflates quickly. Feels great when reclined upon.

HOWSOMEVER - The DEFLATING and rolling up are a little on the difficult side. (Difficult not in the thinking process BUT in the physical force required to remove the air in the pad.) Future generations of this pad could use a little more engineering skill in this matter.

Warm and Comfortable, September 10, 2009
By kcfdcapt from Walker Basin, CA

"I use this sleeping pad while working as a team member in a fire camp. In the past I have used an inflatable air mattress and have been cold from underneath. Using this sleeping pad, I find it is warm, comfortable and convenient . The added thickness makes for a comfortable pad as there are no pressure points against the cot. The dual inflation valves make it quick to inflate and deflate. The cover material does not make noise against a cot and the sleeping bag stays put. It is easily cleaned. Great product! Thank you Cabelas."

Quality on the Queets, September 9, 2009
    By ClearwaterPete from Washington State

    "Is it big? Yep
    Is it bulky? Yep
Is it the best camping mattress I've ever owned? Yep

This one is the way to go for boat or car camping. We set it up upon arriving at our camp on Thursday night and packed it up come Monday morning. It never lost air, never, not once. Nada- stayed fully inflated the whole time- and was large enough to comfortably fit myself and the wife- even enough room for the three year old when that old hoot owl spooked her there in the middle of the night.
First thing I did once we returned to home was place the old double size inflatable mattress in the garage sale pile. The kind with plug in inflation pump- the one that you are constantly filling back up- never again. The Cabela's Ulimate Self-Inflating Pad is the only way to go.

Better than home, September 7, 2009
By savoo from The back woods of Maine.

"Just spent 6 nights on the self inflating mattress. I'm almost 60 and I thought I'd have to give up camping. I've gone from hiking the AT. to car camping. Now that I car camp, This mattress is GREAT. I't like sleeping on a bed. I got the top of the line base camp style. Not JUST the base camp mat, but the thickest base camp mat. It was worth every penny. If your thinking of giving up camping cause sleeping on the ground is too hard on you try this before you decide. The only problem is it's hard to roll up. I'm also looking for a fleece sheet that fits tight around it cause when it's hot you'll notice that it's also waterproof. The mat I got You will never carry on your back cause rolled up it's 3ft. by14in. in dia. For car camping this is the VERY BEST !!!! Savoo. An old man who still gets out."

What's more precious than sleep?, August 24, 2009
    By WildBill48 from Larkspur, CO

"We spent years trying out various solutions to sleeping on the
ground, each one ending in failure. Inflated mattresses went
flat, foam pads were too hard, finally, deliverance! We bought
the double size and love it. We slept soundly and, most importantly, were still suspended off the ground in the morning.

    pad, August 18, 2009
    By DGEIPSI from Texas

"The pad is almost impossible to deflate and return to it's sack.
A better design would have check valves to allow air to escape but not return during the deflation step.
Also include some instrutions on how to deflate. There were no instructions at all.

Good double pad, tough to roll fast, weak gasket, August 3, 2009
    By Showen from Bay Area

"I got the double pad for my wife because, in my opinion, it's better than a dbl/queen inflatable air mattress / raft which leaks. On the 3.5 inch Ultimate pad, our butts don't feel the ground - but pressing the air out and rolling the pad up is a work out. Also, it came with a spare gasket, cap and patch kit which is also good and expected for something costing over $200 with shipping, but I did not think I'd need to use the new gasket after using the pad only once. In one of the two valves, the existing gasket is now pressed into the screw valve top which prevents efficient air release and ease of closing. A push on the existing gasket with a paper clip should do the trick."

    almost 5 star, June 30, 2009
    By tedpollyellenteddy from Louisville, KY

"My wife and I have used the large pad on 2 different occassions. Each night we slept quite well. It was very humid out and we did not the problems others in our group who had blow up mattresses w/ being chilly late at night. With this mattress there is no more problem w/ losing air. We like the ability to adjust the firmness by blowing into the valves as well as the ease of setting it up. The only draw back is getting it back in the bag. It needs some wrestling to remove the air. Overall its a great product. We already have people who want to borrow it."

    Good mattress, June 22, 2009
    By AUtrkyhntr from Alabama

"Only used once thus far on a 2 night camping trip. I must give this mattress high ratings due to comfort. This mattress is definitely for car camping only due to its bulk. The main drawback is that is requires a team of mules to roll this thing back up. I never imagined a self-inflating mattress would turn the bed of my truck into a great night's sleep."

Best thing ever for couples, June 9, 2009
    By CueBall from Texas

"Bought this (double size) for my girlfriend and I. We camp in a Eureka! 3-man Timberline when the weather permits here in Texas, and this mattress is a godsend. We both sleep like babies with it. You open both valves, unroll it, and then leave it for half an hour. It will self-inflate ... then just close both valves. When you're done, it rolls up nicely, and the two compression straps keep it nice and tight. WELL worth the money !"

    Oversized comfort, May 27, 2009
By cfoodchef from Havre de Grace, MD

"I have a bad back which has kept me from camping for several years. I have tried other cots and pads and have had no satisfaction until now. This pad offers the support and comfort I require to get a restful nights sleep with little to no morning stiffness. I like the width of the pad because I can move around and not come off the pad in the middle of the night. I had no problems re-rolling the pad to put it away, I use both hands and one knee to squeeze the air out while rolling it up. Fits right back in the stuff sack, no problem. While its size is prohibative for back packing, it does work wonderfully for family/car camping."

    What a Lifesaver, May 17, 2009
By dudettegirl from San mateo, CA

"I have been camping for years and really HATED to use air mattresses.... (in those dark ages all that was available were the ones from the pool!). Needless to say, when I saw one that was as wide as my sleeping bag, had foam insulation to keep me warm AND was 3.5 inches deep I was in HEAVEN.

I have had my 36" version for about 4 years and have never had a bad experience with it. I wouldn't trade them for the world! As for the person who was having difficulty telling if they had the valves open or not, remember "righty tighty, lefty loosey" and you will not have a problem!!

I still can't figure out which side actually is supposed to keep you from slipping around... my sleeping bag that has a nylon outside always slips, but there is less slipping if I use my one made of fabric on the outside.

    Worth it!, May 4, 2009
By goldielocks from Grass Valley, Calif

"I broke my back in four places several years ago.
I was invited to go camping with family in a tent.
Ordered the ultimate self-inflating sleeping pad.
Absolutely worth every cent! No back Problems, very restful sleep. Like being at home in bed except on the floor.
    Highly recommend to everyone.
The Pad was difficult to roll back up, but I did it.

Delaminates just like older model., April 23, 2009
    By 180pilot from California

"Bought this to use in my camper truck. Got about 3 trips out of it before a large bubble appeared from an adhesive failure. I had returned two other earlier models of Cabela's self inflatables a couple of years ago. (the Green ones). Seems a common problem if valve is left closed and any sunlight gets on them, even through an open screened window. at 70 degrees. The material is on the slippery side, and it took it a couple of days unrolled to reach 4" thick. I'm going back to plain firm foam, and returning this."

ultimate self inflating sleeping pad, April 8, 2009
    By Tentcampedad

"Good nights sleep. I bought the large (36" width) and was very comfortable. Gave me room to roll around with out ending up on the ground. Woke up a little stiff the first morning and found that pad wasn't fully inflated. I don't think that both valves were completely closed. Worked fine the second night. Much more comfortable than my thermarest base camp mat."

Ultimate Comfort but Cumbersome, February 23, 2009
    By SSSSTFIRE from California

"Overall I have to admit I am pleased with this sleeping pad. I have the largest size and it is indeed very supportive and comfortable; I'm 6'2" & 205lbs.

The downside is trying to put this monster away. Two people is almost a must if you hope to fold in half as it was originally and get the air out. Even using a pump in reverse to suck the air out doesn't work well enough. The pad tends to want to "slip" from the folded position as you try to roll it up. A big improvement would be to have small loops and toggles along the outer edges so as to be able to hold the sides together when foled in half to roll up.

All in all though a good nights sleep and definitely better than a typical air mattress.
