"Got this on sale from Cabela's. Great deal at half the price the same radio is available locally. Really like the water resistant features as I'll use this in my skiff. Paid for itself already. On my first outing with the radio I had to tow my buddy and his broke down motor home through a windstorm and dangerous tide rips. I was able to notify the harbor master of our problems and have them standing by in case we got in trouble. A real comfort to be able to contact help right away. Also like the weather feature but wish we had stronger signals to pick up in our area. This unit seems much easier to use than other brands I've used. They are popular in our area and local dealer says he doesn't get many repair needs or complaints. Great deal."

"Overal a decent unit"--- knobs on top are prone to bending and breaking if dropped or stashed in storage bins unprotected. Warranty limited and cost of repair is almost as high as a new unit once they are out of warranty. Bought same unit as replacement to broken knob issue because of low price point and ease of use."

"I bought this for use on my skiff and am generally satisfied. The boat mounted stand is very handy and the radio stays inplace even during rough seas.
The only fault I can find is the volume is not loud enough to hear clearly while running at higher speeds."

"Solid, hefty, and ever-reliable radio. Was so impressed with the performance of the one that I tested that I went ahead and ordered 2 at once. Reception is remarkable and I believe that this unit will go head to head with any other radio of its genre.
Came with EVERYTHING you'll need to keep it up and running including both an AC and a DC charger for each unit, as well as a belt clip and charging cradle.
NOT a cheapo toy, nor a lightweight. Charges quickly off either power source and holds that charge for hours. Love mine..."

"I did some reserch on some other brands and heard of problems with them. So I decided to go with this Uniden. I also got a 25watt model to go with it. The problem is with the handheld it seems to receive well, but the transmit is not good at all. I had two older smr. radios that came in very well at six miles. This one I am lucky to get less than a quarter of mile. And that is calling a 25watt radio. Anything over that the person on the other end has to hold the speaker to his ear to hear me. I will be checking with the tecks. for help or it will be returned."

"comes with a few extras like holder, clip, 12v cord etc
fairly intuitive
a bit on the big side by 2008 standards.
but no bigger than my older radios of similar quality.
left on scan and standby for 8 hours , bat was still near half.
i use as backup to fixed mount.
handhelds are not good for offshore safety except as backup and ditch kit radios or nearby boat to boat use.
if you never boat far from port or are in a skiff to small for a fixed mount this is the the radio for you as it is water resistant.
i hate to call them water proof as the bat packs willalmost always get wet on handhelds if they are removeables.
no real weekness, dont be afraid of this one"

"I have used my radio for 1.5 years. I can pick up radio towers any whwere in the upper midwest and the farm country of Canada where I hunt, very good reception. And built very well I might add.
I charged it last fall, and listen to it several times a week and yet it still works even with the cold 20 below zero weather it has encountered this winter while sitting in my truck outside all winter. I just pulled it out of my truck, and it turned on, pretty good considering it is -8 out right now.
I have not used it as a walkie talkie, so no comment on its sending capabilities."
