Better instructions would be beneficial,July 28, 2009
By oldercamperfrom CA
"More instructions on what appear to be extra fasteners on basically a good ground cloth would improve your customers experience. Although it may seem pretty basic, a note on whether to install with the waterproof side up or down would help. I assume that the waterfroof side is less abrasion-resistent and should be installed up with the more abrasion-resistent Oxford cloth down."

take good care of your tent!,June 2, 2009
By simplestevefrom Illinois
"It's worth it! Protect your investment. I don't really understand the pitch in the rain idea, unless you pitch the fly first. Then lay out the pitch-kit liner on the bottom. This will definately protect the bottom of your tent."

outfitters series pitch kit and tent,October 28, 2008
By catsquilt
"This rig did not suit my purposes. It is a very heavy duty tent assembly and does not lend itself to a fast set-up or take down. Detailed instructions for pitching the tent either in the catalog or on line would have helped me make a better choice before purchasing it. The whole system weighs approximately 50 pounds. If you are looking for a base camp type shelter that you would leave erected for a few days or a week then this tent should work very well. If you are car camping and do a daily set-up from one location to the next then this tent would be more effort then it's worth."

10x10 pitch kit,June 25, 2008
By TravisNfrom Saint Paul, MN
"This piece seems a little overpriced but after it was paid for I did find it useful. We were trying to wedge our tent in amongst some large rocks and pine trees and were dragging around the pitch kit to gauge the footprint rather than the tent body. Once we had everything where we wanted it we staked it down and assembled the tent. The tent body and pitch kit have stake loops in the same locations so I found myself pulling out stakes I initially drove to pin down the pitch kit and then used them through the aligned loops of both the tent and pitch kit. The most useful part was when I wanted to set up the rain fly to make sure it was dry after the trip. I never had to get the tent body out of the bag and could throw the rainfly over the frame by myself because I could walk on the pitch kit rather than stepping on or around the tent body. I wish it was a little more affordable, especially after paying so much for the tent. I may be singing a different song if I had to set up the tent by myself or in nasty weather."

A necessary evil,June 25, 2008
By NukedWorkerfrom Ontario Provincial Parks, Canada
"As with the online description and included instructions of any of the XWT items, when I actually got it, I was disappointed to see it was just a ground sheet in it's own carry bag. However, I later decided it was worth spending the extra bucks. The ground sheet is fitted to the tent, and has all the spots for pegging it down and setting up the poles and fly prior to "hanging" the tent inside, which was nice. I was confused as to why, when they designed it, there were clips to connect the fly to the sheet, but the tent you have to hook to the pegs? They couldn't add a second set of clips? It is made of the same durable material as the rest of the tent and holds up beautifully. While I only came within minutes of actually requiring to set up the tent in the rain, it was helpful to have even when it wasn't raining - if for nothing else than to act as a ground sheet to protect the tent."

Rename pitch kit,May 28, 2008
By MountaineerDave
"The first set-up threw me as the description said it allows you to set-up in a driving rain storm. The fact that it goes UNDER the tent did not occur to me until I was in the process of set-up. A fairly quick learner, I had it down by the second use and can not imagine erecting this tent without. Use of the pitch kit allowed me to put up the tent and rainfly by myself in 20 minutes (10x10). Get it, but Cabelas, rename it for us slower learners."

dry pitch kit,January 9, 2008
By seriouscampersfrom Loveland Colorado
"I was a little afraid to spend more money on this tent, but my 9 year old son and I just camped Rocky Mountain National park. In late december and it snowed from the time we got there till the time we left with a windchill of -33 below zero. We were both very grateful to have the dry pitch kit. It is hard to get the fly on in the wind but once you get that you have it made. It is so nice to have a dry tent to set up in wet weather. I will always use the dry pitch kit. thanks for a great product."

Ok on the Pitch Kit!,July 5, 2007
By mollbillfrom Shoreline, Washington
"We like the pitch kit in that you can attach the frame to it. However, if you are in foul weather, the ground cloth will get wet, no matter what. We took an extra tarp with us to put on top of the pitch kit ground cloth after the rain fly was up, there-by creating a dry surface to place the tent on.
We would have also appreciated a more detailed instruction for set up.
This is definately something that you will want to practice with before you go out on a camp trip."

It is nice to be dry.,November 20, 2006
By Cosignfrom Virginia Beach, VA
"The first time I tried this product was on a trout fishing trip in the middle of huriccane Ernesto. My brother and I pitched the tent in driving wind and rain and it was really nice to get into a dry tent!!!!!. Only problem I found was that getting the dry pitch kit pins and tent pins into the frame poles with wet cold hands. It is not an easy task under normal conditions and very difficult in bad weather."

XWT 12x12 review,November 11, 2006
By tentman
"Outstanding design! Set up in about 45min. first time, it will be easier with the pitch kit(I recommend, and, I've ordered). Take down was just 30 min., and, that was taking my time! The material and construction is premium. I have faith we can weather just about any condition Colorado can toss at us. The only downside was the size of the carry bag, it will not hold tent, fly, stakes, and, poles during a simple field takedown, unless you brought a shopvac and some leafbags to shrink the tent and fly! Excellent Job! Jim!(whom I met the day I purchased at Sidney store). And Thank You! Linda!"
