Imagine the worst conditions you could ever put a tent through – high winds, driving rain, heavy snow – no matter what you come up with, our testers thought of worse and put the XWT – Extreme Weather Tent through it. Test after test, it stood up to the most extreme punishment. In fact, we can confidently say it is simply our strongest tent ever. The secret to this amazing tent is in its 3/4" aluminum frame with Cabela's exclusive Bipod Corner™ for superior structural integrity and to give it the backbone to stand solidly through harsh weather. In fact, in a wind test, this revolutionary tent withstood a sustained 75-mph blast from a jet engine, a remarkable feat considering it also has a high- profile design for extra headroom. The walls and floor are constructed of 210-denier oxford nylon with a 2,000mm-rated waterproof coating and the rugged full-coverage rainfly is made from 150-denier polyester oxford with a 1,500mm-waterproof rating with fully taped seams for maximum performance. Plus, the fly is "overbuilt" with reinforced guy-out points, 1,000-denier nylon reinforcements and heavy-duty No. 10 zippers. The shell includes a spacious integrated vestibule on the front and a smaller rear vestibule for extra storage of packs and other bulky gear. Dual zippers on the vestibules allow you to customize the ventilation to fit a wide range of weather conditions. Brass grommets on the corners of the front door let it double as an awning. Two large D-shaped doors (one front, one rear) make it easy to get in or out without letting rain or snow in. Triangular ventilation panels on the roof can be opened to increase air flow. Inside, a roomy gear loft and two mesh organizers keep essentials where you can find them easily in the night. The heavy-duty 12" steel stakes hold tightly in any soil type. The zippered stuff sack has a separate internal sack for the tent body to keep it dry especially when using the optional Dry-Set Pitch Kit.

Make it better?, November 5, 2009
By kevin12345 from Bothell, Wa

"I don't know how they could make it any better. Get it, you will never look back. 2 walls keeps it warm in the tent without a heater. add a heater for when the snow is falling.

If 2 people are setting up, make sure too have 2 hammers, that's where i spend most of my setup time, pounding stakes!

Awesome Tent !!!, November 3, 2009
By mojo25 from Cordova, TN

"We have been camping in Smoky Mountains for the past 12 days and this tent is wonderful !!!!! Easy to set up once you do it a time or two and we had no issues with leaks at all and had a total of about 3 and 1/2 days of rain. The rain fly did cause some condensation but the inside of the tent did not. Everything about this tent is durable and well made. We used a Mr. Buddy Big Buddy heater with this and ran it on low at night and stayed comfortable all night long with temperatures ranging from the high 30's to mid 40's with a substantial amount of wind. The back vestibule is very small and will only hold a couple of packs but there is no real need due to all the room on the inside. We haven't had to use all the tie downs yet but I did just watch a hunting video where they were using this tent on the alaskan tundra and it was holding up to winds in excess of 60 mph. You can't go wrong by purchasing this tent. I have a friend with the 12 x 12 alaknak tent and think this tent is just as roomy and I don't have to contend with a pole in the middle of mine. You can stand up without slumping over in this tent as well which is a big plus for me."

Great Tent, September 5, 2009
By EdsOutdoors from Simi Valley, CA

"After having a Coleman tent for years, I decided to purchase a better tent. The Coleman tent was always falling apart during winds and was not the best during snow or rain storms. I purchased the 10X10 model and was suprised how easy it was to put together. The poles are put together with ease and I was able to put the tent together by myself. The 10X10 model was just enough room for 2 of the Cabelas XL Cots. I have used this tent during high winds and rain and did well by staying together and does not leak any water. If you use a tent heater, OPEN the vents on top to prevent condensation inside. This tent will last me for years."

What's that you say... you want to fold this tent?, August 29, 2009
By MaximumExtremeCamperMan from Arizona

"I just purchased the 12x12 version of this tent and had some troubles. First off, when unpacking it, be aware that the large green object that unfolds out of the duffel bag, is not, infact, the tent. It is the rain fly. This was quite confusing at first. The tent itself is folded and stashed in one of the bags that is rolled in the fly. Next we searched and searched for instructions on how to set this tent up. Couldnt find them, so we continued as best we could. Turns out we later found them sewn into the zipper of the duffel bag, but they are next to useless. Cabelas, pictures are worth 1000 words. Please include pictures with your instructions as I am clearly not intelegent enough to figure out what you are talking about.

Once we got the tent in an upright position, we attempted to pull the rain-fly over. Was quite difficult, but managable. (Again instructions would have been nice here.) We werent sure which direction was the front of the fly until we found the sleveing for the pole.

Now on to the positive. The tent did not leak, it did not fall, it did not blow over, in fact it didnt have any issue what-so-ever once we got it up. The quality of the zippers and poles is outstanding. The pegs did not bend as I pounded them into the rocky dirt. I fully expect this to be the last tent I have to purchase.

One final note about this tent, there are no instructions on how to fold it. Even the inexpensive bargain basement tents have folding instructions, yet this high dollar beauty seems to be missing them. It is proving nearly impossible to get it back into the original duffel bag. Cabelas, you have a super product here, please polish it out with handy things such as folding instructions (with pictures) and a bag large enough to contain it.

Top Honors, August 2, 2009
By Shamrok372 from Syracuse NY

"I have used this tent 11 times in 1 year. The tent can be set up by one person with some skill level but it is easier to put the rain fly on with two people. I also purchased the pitch kit for my 10X10. This i believe to be a must! I have set my tent up three times in the rain and this helps out immensely. My tent stays completely dry during this set up. Also i have to rave about how well it holds up in a rain storm. I have been in 4 terenchal downpours and not a drip has come inside the rain fly. I was the only one this weekend that didnt have a tarp over my tent and the only one that didnt have a ounce of water in their tent.
Thanks Cabelas for putting out this incredible tent!

Better instructions would be beneficial, July 28, 2009
By oldercamper from CA

"The tent and fly should be labelled as such and the front-back orientation should be indicated. The logo on the tent and the fly were in different orientations which led to some confusion regarding their proper orientation (some will be setting up in the dark or bad weather). The addition of the 3 gold-finished clips had no instructions for their use. Otherwise, well-made product."

By McBeaner from Missouri

"This is one awesome tent. It definitely requires two people to set up. The only weakness I see is in the zippers, they stick alot. The tent is geat in the rain and wind. I hope Cabelas reads these reviews and takes note, because they have the best tent out there."

Cabela's Outfitter Series® XWT Xtreme Weather Tent, June 16, 2009
By IronPatriot from SW Wisconsin

"I recently purchased the 10x10 model for my yearly camping trip. Last year wind and rain destroyed my $200+ tent on the first night. I was embarrassed that I had to rely on others for shelter. This year, my new XWT ate the weather for breakfast. My wife and I remained bone dry along with all of our gear while other campers in lesser tents spent the day drying out gear and resetting their tents. It was worth every penny to have piece of mind knowing we were going to remain dry at night. Anyone who camps out in tents should consider this model of tent if they want to sleep peacefully at night knowing that they and their gear will still be dry and in the same spot in the morning. This tent practically staples to the earth with all the stakes and tie downs- but they are worth the extra time and effort during set-up. The rain protection is superb."

Tent Vent, June 9, 2009
By Aatitaaq1 from Igloolik, Nunavut

"Nylon eventhough it is waterproof, it gets wet on the inside over night. If the outer shell could have a vent hole near the top of the tent like an Igloo, I think it would cut down on condensation.
I understand that the tent should have adequate ventilation, but too much ventilation inside the tent especially up north is too cold. My suggestion is make a vent hole on top and close the gap between the ground and the outer shell.
Instead of nylon for an outer shell, use canvas. 10 or 12 oz would be perfect.
Overall I love it.

Thank you,
"

Talk about Heavy Duty!, June 2, 2009
By simplesteve from Illinois

"We had the tent out for Memorial Day weekend. What a great tent. This is not your average, camping tent. I bought this tent with the intention of having it in my family for generations and I'm sure a few will make use of it. The fly contains most of the weight of the tent. The stakes, the rest. the frame and tent are pretty lightweight. The tent itself vents really good. The fly will attract a lot of heat, but will definately keep the weather out. If you intend on purchasing this tent, but two 6 foot aluminum poles to attach to the front door of the fly. This will allow you extend the "awning" out and leave a nice dry area in front of the tent. Although the vestibule is really large already."

awesome, March 29, 2009
By dynalite from southern ohio

"I've always wanted a tent that would keep us warm and dry and
now found it. The 12x12 took on heavy rain for a week and stayed totally dry inside. The fly is the key to it all with a huge front vestibule to store gear under. I've camped in many tents and this one beats them all by a mile when it comes to quality and design. I can't wait to get out again because we won't worry
about the weather.

Absolutely fantastic.

Excellent Tent, March 26, 2009
By JeremyLS from southeast, ks.

"I have had this tent for over a year and have been in some very strong storms and my Xtreme Weather Tent has not leaked or fell down. I woke up one morning after a big thunderstorm and got out of my cot and the floor of the tent felt like I was walking on a water bed. The same night there was 60-70mph winds and my Xtreme Weather Tent did not move. All of my friends with there cheep tents were wet and sleeping in their trucks or in a wet tent. I would recommend these tents to anyone. It is the strongest, and most waterproof tent I have ever been in. I can set it up in 30 minutes, it took me some time to figer out how to set it up by myself. I have the 10x10 and I have plenty of room in it. I like the fact that you can store coolers, boots and chairs under the rain fly gives you alot more room it the tent. There is alot of room under the rain fly. I think that the Xtreme Weather Tent is the best. It is well worth the money."

Great tent, February 28, 2009
By eddie1960 from GA

"This is the best tent I've ever had. I am a fall and winter camper so I needed a tent to withstand xtreme weather. I don't have to wory about puttting a tarp over this one. I've had no leaks as of yet. I use a heater inside to keep warm and it holds the heat quite well but there is condensation under the rainfly. After the first setup I don't have much trouble with setup. It is a very strong and well built tent well worth the money."

XWT Rules!!!, February 21, 2009
By Smokey102977 from Missoula, MT

"I received the 12x12 XWT as a graduation present. I asked for it becuase I am an archaeologist and would be working in many different environments. I loved the construction and size. I spent 2 1/2 months down near Yellowstone National Park working as a teaching assistant for the Montana Yellowstone Archaeological Project. We experienced the heat of the summer in the high mountain desert, the summer storms that bring high winds, pounding rain, and the occasional hail, and the late spring freezes that the region gets frequently. The tent survived the 2 1/2 months unscathed and I was the only person at the field school that never had to worry about the environmental condtions affecting my tent. We were visited by Bison and Elk at the campground regularly and I can tell you that I didn't worry about my tent being crushed by game. I would recommend the XWT to anyone. The other tents in our camp didn't fair as well. These included some of the more well known manufacturers. If the XWT can handle being up for 2 1/2 months and still perform at its peak performance, I guarantee for the average person this tent will last well beyond any other tent."

Super Xtreme, January 31, 2009
By joshr502 from Kabul, Afghanistan

"I'm a contractor working in Afghanistan. Every year we deploy to the poppy fields of Helmand Province. I ordered this tent in hopes that it would handle the harsh weather that we see here, everything from sand storms to strong winds and driving rain. We haven't hit sand storm season yet, but so far this tent has held up great. I have the 10x10 model with the floor liner. I love how roomy it is. I also like the large front vestibule. The back vestibule is pretty small though. I also like how sturdy the tent is. The bipod corners are great and very sturdy. The rain fly is also very well built. The only real downside to the tent is that is takes a while to put up. I definatly would not want to try putting this up in the dark."

Best Tent Ever, November 10, 2008
By FCSColorado from Denver, Co

"The XWT Xtreme Weather Tent is everything it advertizes and more. I origanally ordered the 8X8 but it was to small for the Outfitters XL cot. The 10X10 was perfect and roomy. After the first set up it is very easy and relativly quick to do by yourself. During my hunting trip a storm blew in with winds around 50 mph and the tent was rock solid. Not everyone faired as well. If you are car camping I would strongly recommend this tent even for the family tent."

XWT tent, October 19, 2008
By need2hunt

"We camped at 12000+ feet in the Clorado mountains for 5 days. The night time temp was in single digits and we had heavy winds and snow including a storm of gale force that blew down hundreds of trees. This tent performed very well. I bought the 10x10 and I made the right decision for my situation. 3 hunters and gear fit in the tent with room to move around. The floor protector is a little over priced but durable and light and necessary if you will be taking chairs and other such gear in the tent."

The XWT, October 16, 2008
By OldCoastie from New Mexico

"Make no mistake. This tent is what is advertised. I spent 3 days at 8200ft in northern New Mexico. It rained most of the time and the wind gusts reached 30-40 knots. The drainage trenches I dug around the tent overflowed under the tent. I was dry and warm inside the tent. There were other tents around the campground that appeared near collapse, flopping all over the place. The XWT barely moved in the wind. The tent is heavy, there are a lot of stakes, and it takes me 30 minutes to set it up solo. The only suprise I experienced was there were no suprises. I've used the pitch kit but prefer setting it up tent first then the rain fly. I've found this way faster and less complicated.
This tent does what they say it will do. No disappointments.
