Great holster for the price.,November 20, 2009
By MountainJackfrom Massachusetts
"This is probably the best deal you will find for a leather shoulder holster. I would have given it five stars except the strap that secures the pistol does not hold 1911's tight - although it fits Sig 226 perfectly and the holster does not stay open after drawing the pistol requiring you to hold the holster open to holster the pistol. After assembling the holster (it's fun and it took me a couple of hours.) I figured a way to wear the holster without the chest strap being visible; I took the strap and rather than putting it under my right arm and accross my chest, put it OVER my right shoulder then UNDER my right arm and around back to hook the strap to the holster; this way you can leave your jacket open and the chest strap is not visible. This will not work for very large people though - (I am 6'1'' and 235 lbs and wear a size XL shirt and there are a couple of inches to spare on the chest strap.) I also recommend buying the "Pacific Canvas 1911 Double Clip Pouch" and attach it to the chest strap under your right arm - upside down - the snap is secure."

Disappointed!,October 6, 2009
By SoCalLongRiflefrom California
"Ordered mine for a Springfield Armory 1911A1 WWII G.I. pistol. Leather quality was satisfactory. Embossing of "US" stamp was faint; could have been much better. Poor instructions for assembly/adjustment. Retention strap was either too long, or snap was installed at wrong location on the strap; whichever the case, result was that the pistol could move up and down in the holster approximately 1/2 inch. I found this unacceptable; pistol should be snugly retained once the strap is secured. Returned mine for a refund."

A very good value,June 28, 2009
By BostonJofrom Boston, Massachusetts
"I had read reviews prior to my purchase. The consensus is that the directions for assembly are terrible. I agree. Use the internet to see photos of how to assemble. It looks more challenging at first than it really is...
Make sure you have leather tool or boyscout knife to enlarge the strap holes for the raw hide lacings once you have fitted the rig to your body. The lacing work well, but are a impossible to pull through, double, without enlarging the hole.
The color of the leather that I recieved is more mahogany in color rather than tan. The net photos appear more tan than mahogany. The color does not match the leather mag pouch if that is important to you. I returned the first holster I received, attempting to obtain a tan colored holster. The second one I received was the same color in spite of all the special checking. I kept it anyway because I really liked the holster.
The rig fits me perfectly after my meticulus fitting and assembly--The model 1911 drops-in nicely.
This is a good product, and a great value for the money. One could easily spend about $200 bucks for a similar holster
I reccomend the product--just understand what you are getting into."

I like it!,June 22, 2009
By rbrandesfrom Marianna, FL
"I read the reviews saying how the instructions were not very good so I was prepared for that. But, by going slow, reading carefully (sometimes several times) I got the rig together. The quality of the leather and metal is top notch! I re-enact WWII and am the gunner in a M-36. There is no place in there for my Garand and this holster is great for that impression."

M7/9 shoulder holster,June 17, 2009
By CHPJACKfrom Northern California
"After reading all the reviews, I decided to give it a try. Had no problem assembling the rig, and it fit my XD 45 auto just fine. Worked a little oil in it, and it fits like a glove. Good product at a good price, just what I would expect from your company."

Historically Accurate 1911 Shoulder Holster,April 20, 2009
By Anonymousfrom Greater Metropolitan Horse Shoe, NC
"I've never reviewed anything out of many purchases which relied on the reviews of others, so this is to somewhat return the favor. Wow. This holster is a fine piece of work, a very fair price, and actually wearable. I had debated getting a similar item, for $10 less, from another company which has never done me wrong, but the reviews on both sites swayed me toward Cabela's, and no regrets. This is made in the US of A and proudly branded on the backside by a military supplier (you can actually find their web site, but they don't sell directly to the public). No mystery materials here, and the color is a handsome, warm reddish-brown (not Cordovan... it's called Medium Brown on the shoe polish aisle), and no, the originals were not all Tan. Assembly is not difficult if you refer to various pictures available on the web. I'm no leatherworker, but I learned that it helps to widen the belt-holes with a sharp wooden pencil before you push the thongs through. The strapping leather is quality, and returns to shape if you keep it within reason. From the hardware to the stitching, my 1911 and I are happy campers. Thank you, good folks at Cabela's."

A classic...,March 17, 2009

"Just as billed, this is the real deal and not nearly as difficult to assemble if you've ever worn one before. Works great with a smaller frame 9mm and the old 1911 too. Very happy with it."

Leather Holster for Army 1911 .45,March 3, 2009
By VnAHCpilotfrom Santa Barbara, CA
"The price is right but the holster has to be assembled and the instructions and illustrations are poor. It will tke me several hours to put the thing together. Original ones are hard to find so I guess this is the best solution if you want one of these holsters"

Holster,December 17, 2008
By CRMafrom Texas
"A pretty good holster for use in the field. I use it when I go hunting to carry my 1911 and you hardly even notice its thier. My Russian Tokerav and Czech CZ-52 also fit the rig very well. The downside was the instructions, the pictures are not all that good and I had to use a picture off the internet to figure out how the rig went together. Other than that it is a very well made in America product that I would recommend to anyone wanting a good field carry holster."

A blast from the past.,December 15, 2008
By AV8ARTfrom Newnan, GA
"This holster is an exact reproduction of the old, beat up version I wore while a Naval Aviator. Instructions are a bit unclear but I googled some photos of the assembled product and combined with my memory of my old one was able to put the new holster together."

Leather M7/M9 shoulder holster,December 4, 2008
By Allentown
"Great for an old 1911 to knock around in the woods. This isn't hi-tech. It is WW 2 tech but it still works. I went on the manufacturer's web site for a photo and figured out how to assemble it. Glad to see something is made as it had been."

Excellent but...,October 22, 2008
By Quandaryboundfrom Fort Worth
"This is the EXACT shoulder holster used by the armed forces except is is made with high quality saddle leather. It really looks good. If you are familiar with it, welcome back an old friend. If you are not, it will be a challenge putting it together with the directions provided. The leather is (properly) a bit stiff, but softens nicely by rubbing with baby oil."

Good Quailty, Horrible Directions,August 4, 2008
By ProjectAlffrom Kansas City, MO
"It took me forever to figure out how to assemble this high quality leather holster. The leather cords sent with the piece were to weak and kept breaking. I had to get online to really figure out how to put this thing together. All in all, good quality but needs far better directions."

"Very well made with quality leather. This is comfortable to wear and my .45 Auto fits in the holster perfectly. I use this when I go hunting and it stays in place and is not bulky. I found it better than some of the much more expensive shoulder holsters."

Best Available, Great Price!,January 16, 2008
By ninefingersfrom South Central Virginia
"I wore an M7 in the Army over 30 years ago, this model is much improved. The leather is of high quality, I'm sending another one to my nephew in Iraq. One minor complaint, the directions on how to fasten the leather straps with the tie-downs are worthless. If I hadn't had prior experience I'd never have gotten it attached correctly."
