great product but not right for me,
November 11, 2009
By powderfinger

"I have used nothing else but Hornady bullets for reloading. Killed many animals with different calibers. Hornady always performed for me. However, these bullets won't work in my Rem 700 (1967 .22-250). Not enough barrel twist. These 75g. A-Max bullets will not stabilize. Product is great. My knowledge and decision poor. Now I have a box of bullets for sale!!"

"My AR15 with 1/8 twist loves these things. You have to sort by length with comparator, but I find that two bins are sufficient. Worth the effort for the price and performance. No cannelures."

Hornady SXSP is dynamite prairie dog antidote,
August 10, 2009
By DakotaMojo
from Fargo, Dakota Territory
|
"Hornady .22 caliber 55 grain SXSP bullets are the key ingredient in my reloading recipe. Combined with 21.5 grains of IMR 4198 and Winchester small rifle primers, this bullet is the prefect prairie dog antidote. I've been using this bullet in this reloading mix for over 10 years and have always been completely satisfied with the results. Field-proven high-accuracy and explosive whacking power over thousands of rounds can't be wrong. I recommend this bullet, and this load, to anyone who reloads for varmint shooting - especially out west where accuracy over long distances is required."

68 gr Hornady OTM,
February 10, 2009
By Anonymous
from League City, TX
|
"Hornady has changed the profile of these bullets. Where they were once profiled very similarly to the 69gr SMK, they now are longer, equal in length to 77gr SMKs. They are just more slender past the ogive.
I haven't confirmed this, but this may be a serious problem for people shooting a 1:10 or 1:9 twist barrel. Where the previous shape was excellent for these twists, the new profile is probably too long. Not too mention the longer bullet now takes up more case capacity to maintain magazine compatible OAL in an AR platform.
I used to buy hundreds of these as a cheaper, high quality substitute for 69 SMKs. Looks like I'll now have to look elsewhere.
Still an excellently accurate bullet, with great fragmentation characteristics, but just no longer what I am looking for."

Fine and consistent,
December 9, 2008
By BillfromLittleton
from Littleton, CO
|
"The 68gr. .224 BTHP are fine and accurate. More so if loaded on the mid to light end of the scale (on the order of 1/4 - 1/2 MOA tighter groups versus loading to the max per Hornady, using H335). I do want to compare with SMK 68gr. BTHP just to see if my Oly match AR15 likes them any better, and for that matter play with powders. I'll let you know when I get a round tuitt."

New Load,
September 30, 2008
By Semperfi762
from Grapevine, TX.
|
"I am in the process of working up a load for my new Remington 700 VSF in 22-250 1-14' twist. I was going to start with the 52gr A-Max as well as try out the Barns 36gr Varmint Grenade.
I loaded up some test rounds with Varget 33.7gr and the 52gr A-Max. My chrono was showing a solid 3500fps average and, not unlike one reviewer on this site, I had to check my optics because all my rounds were going in the same hole.
I haven't had the chance to try out the Barns but with the performance that I got on my first try... Why mess with perfection? I think I have found my load. Can't wait to try them out on some coyotes!
By the way, if anyone is shopping for a great out of the box varmint rifle I can't recommend the Remington Varmint series highly enough. All I have done to mine is get a trigger job (brought my factory trigger down to 2.5 lbs) and I am shooting sub moa while still breaking in the barrel!"
