Nice Derenger in the 1858 style,October 27, 2009

"This is a 5 shot .31 cal pocket revolver that is fun to shoot. The book says either 9 grains pyrodex or 12 grains blackpowder. I have been shooting this baby with 15 grains pyrodex. It feels like a real gun at that load with a minimal recoil. I have put over 100 rounds though it already. It is decently accurate for a gun of this size. It may take a few rounds before you figure out how to best hold it. It has a 3.5 inch barrel and I get a least a 12 inch grouping at 10 feet. The bore has rifling but the lines seem straight. I am unable to determin any twist other then an optical illusion that apears if you don't hold the barrel straight.
The used primers sometimes get stuck action as the cylinder rotates. On a larger gun the action has enough leverage to mash the used primer out of the way. On this little one the used primers can jam you up. Assisting the rotation with your off-hand when this happens helps. Be careful not to put your hand in front of the muzzel or cylinders when the gun is loaded. This can happen easily with small guns. Use lube to prevent chainfire of the cylinders.
This is an awesome gun to get if you already have an .44 cal Rem 1858. I would not recomend anyone start shooting with a derenger, but is a great second gun."

"Just recieved this on order yesterday. Very good fit and finish. Good accuracy for this type of pistol. Cylinder timing was perfect. The only thing not 100 % was the safety notches in the cylinder did not match up with the hammer, but I do not use the safety notches or pins on any blackpowder handguns, but use the safer method of hammer down on an empty chamber."

"It was obvious the cylinder was NOT finished after the recesses for the nipples were milled making it very difficult to prime the pistol.
After that problem was corrected it is a fun little gun to shoot."

"When I got this item it looked terrific. I could find no serious flaws with the finish. I was surprised at how truely small it really was. Everything seemed to function correctly. The timing was tight, etc. Then I tried the loading lever and as has been found with others the arm didn't go into the chamber which made loading the cylander problematic. As I feel this is a rather serious flaw I decided to return it. If there were half stars I might give it two and a half but still warn people about the possible defects."

"I fired about 40 shots through it with 15 grains 777 fffg and .312 round ball. Will just barely penetrate a 2x4 at point blank range. Also tried 15 grains of Jim's Gold in ffg but way too weak. Stick with fffg. Only 3 stars because loading lever broke at about 40 shots."

"1st problem...latch doesn't want to. 2nd problem, you need a brass punch & hammer to DRIVE the cylinder pin out in order to remove the cylinder. 3rd problem, as if 2 weren't enough, it is virtually impossible to seat the ball on the powder as the rammer or plunger will not travel far enough. I had to remove the arm & file a notch in the underside just to get it to ENTER the cylinder face. It appears that the only satisfactory way to load this puppy (I think it's meant to be fired) is to load the cylinder outside of the gun. (After you have beaten the cylinder pin out)."

"I enjoy this little pistol...it's a little hard to load,couse it's so small,so I'll probably buy an extra cylinder or two for it. and I'm really glad I went ahead and got the holster too, I don't know if I could find one to fit it otherwise...and this ones nice...it'll make a wonderful "snakegun" come fishing season."

"I have put 200 rounds through this pistol and haven't had a single misfire. Indexing is perfect, 2 inch groups at 50 feet, and very easy to swap cylinders. The grips are finished superb, and the gun is very light and comfortable to shoot and hold, with almost no muzzle jump. Try it out."

"The firearm was a true copy and upon receiving it I was very excited to use it. At the range I was disappointed with its performance. The hammer would not ignite the cap on the first try on each of the five chambers. It was found that the mainspring was not hardened properly causing the soft hammer impact. The spring finally broke rendering the gun inoperable."
