The Legend Ultra® rod series boasts premium, lightweight high-modulus SCIV graphite blanks constructed using IPC® and ART™ Tooling Technology. St. Croix's Advanced ReinForcing Technology™(ART™) is proprietary process that adds strength to rods in critical locations without adding weight or increasing the blank diameter. A thin layer of graphite fibers wrapped around the blank at right angles to the longitudinal fibers results in a stronger blank that will resist crushing and extreme loads. Introduced in 2003 in St. Croix's Legend Elite® series of premium fly rods, Integrated Poly Curve (IPC®) Tooling Technology creates rods that are stronger, with actions that cast with unprecedented smoothness. Most high-performance fly rods are designed using compound tapers that employ three or four measured transition points - where the slope of the taper changes - along the blank. Those transition points can create points of weakness on the blank. IPC Tooling Technology, the first process of its kind, creates tapers that are a continuous curve from the tip to the butt of the rod, effectively eliminating potential weakening transition points. Cast one and you'll instantly be impressed with the way these fast-action rods load line quickly and toss tight loops without sacrificing casting precision. They have slim-profile ferrules and high-quality cork handles. Reel seats sport nickel/silver hardware with bird's-eye maple inserts or machined aluminum with fighting butts. A Cordura® nylon covered rod case with a divided polypropylene liner is included with each rod. All Legend Ultra rods are backed by a lifetime warranty. Made in USA.

Legend Ultra 907-4, September 18, 2009
By yakflyfisher from Yakima, WA

"I own several Legend Ultra 4 pc flyrods. An 8ft 4wt for small brushy streams. A 9ft 5wt as a backup to several other 5's, but I enjoy using it as much as most of my $650 rods. I just bought the 9ft 7wt for streamer fishing. {I know several MT guides who use this and the 6wt for streamer fishing for big fall browns in MT and it holds up better than most, considering the workout it gets with large articulated streamers and big browns.} The legend ultra is smooth and well balanced, and feels really strong in hand, and the ART and IPC are evident when casting to and retreiving a nice trout. The rods are finished off nicely, with more than adequate hardware and blank finish. For the money, the Legend series is a flyrod I would use and trust anywhere in the world."

6wt 9 foot, June 14, 2009
By CoolHandHodge from Great Lakes State

"Fantastic rod! When i set out to buy a new rod, price was no concern. This rod beat out rods costing double and triple. I honestly think this is the finest rod on the market in any price range. St. Croix's waranty is as good as Cabelas and second to none and it made in America by Americans. You cant go wrong!"

St Croix Legend Rods, May 26, 2009
By Troutchaser from Mostly in the West, occasionally PA or FL.

"I now own 5 St Croix rods, 4 from the Legend Series and an Avid Series Spey rod. I LOVE my Legend rods. They load quickly, cast accurately, and shoot line like a rocket.
I also have 4 rods from a Seattle area manufacturer, each of which has broken multiple times. I have never broken any of my Legend rods, perhaps its a better scrim. While lifetime guarantees are great for the consumer, the real tests of quality are superior fishing performance and NOT having to send the rod back for repair.
My next rod will be a St Croix Legend as well.

legend ultra 2 pc. / 6 wt., August 14, 2008
By Jaxonz from Worcester, MA

"I have been using my new Legend Ultra 2pc. / 6wt in local ponds and small Massachusetts rivers, since having purchased it from Cabelas early this spring '08. The fit and finish of the rod is both sturdy and attractive, with nice snug ferrules which almost entirely eliminate unwanted twisting. It casts very smoothly, and I particularly like the extra power the fast action blank gives my roll-casts! My only negative cretique of the Legend Ultra is that the reel seat seems a little short for a 6wt. In fact, I had to grind down the foot of my very average Pfleuger Medalist in order to mount it to the rod. That aside, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this flyrod again. St. Croix really delivers quality at a fair price. The tube's pretty awesome too!"

St. Croix Legend Ultra, February 11, 2008
By JSSurf from San Diego, CA

"This is my third St. Croix Legend Ultra (an 8'6" 4wt and a 10' 8wt). For the price, I think it is one of the best rods out there. I have bought/used several other rods in that price range, and none of them compare to the St. Croix. My latest purchase was the 10ft 6wt for float tubing and high-stick nymphing. The rod is perfectly suited for that. The extra length and the fast action allow me to cast out a lot of line when I am on the float tube. Definitely, a great rod."

St. Croix Legend Ultra Fly Rods, November 17, 2007
By jes100 from Denver, CO

"I have used my fly rod for several years and it has been my favorite fly rod. On a recent fly fishing trip I fell and broke off the tip. I called St. Croix to see what it would cost to repair or replace; I was pleasantly surprised when they told me that they would replace the broken section for $30 (included shipping). I got the new section in 4 days. The new section fits perfectly and matches exactly."

I'm speechless!!!, July 18, 2007
By Ultra9 from Montreal, Canada

"I owned a Avid before (7 weight)that was my first rod. I purchased a Legend Ultra 9' 9 weight 2 pieces recently and put my Lamson Velocity on it for salmon and bass...This rod is wonderfull ! Light weight and pleasant to cast. I sold my Sage XP and forgot it since I have this Legend! Try it, believe me...for the price, it's hard to beat. Regards Steeve"

St. Croix Legend Ultra Rods, May 21, 2007
By roguedux

"I own four of these rods: two 7 weights (2 & 4 piece) and two 5 weights (2 & 4 piece). Each rod is 9' and all were purchased from Cabelas. If you love the effortless precision of a fast action flyrod on big, fast water, this is the rod for you. I've used all four on many rivers, among them, Oregon's Rogue River. Pulling a sinking line out of the Rogue can be a challenge and these St. Croix rods continue to surpass all my expectations. And when a lightning fast Rogue steelhead strikes like a sledgehammer, it's a fantastically agile and nimble rod. Fishing dries on other rivers is relatively without effort with these rods.

They are as beautifully crafted as they are a pleasure to cast and I love them. You could certainly pay more, but why I do not know. PS--St. Croix is 100% spot on with their lifetime guarantee.

St Croix Legend Ultra U905.4, January 20, 2007
By Zugbugz from Avondale, AZ

"The St Croix Legend Ultra is quite simply, a great fly rod. St Croix is known for great rods that just happen to be bargains. Well, it is my belief that this rod is as good or better than many $600 plus rods. It casts beautifully, has great line feel (makes casting it almost automatic) and feels great with a fish on. I've caught more fish with my St Croix than any other rod I own, which says that I have confidence in it! I own the U905.4 9', 5-weight, 4-piece and 3 other five weight rods (including a Sage XP and Loomis GLX) and this is the one I keep using the most. Am I saying it's better than those?...well, in my honest opinion, its so close and I like it so much, that for the money it IS!"

St Croix Legend Ultra 6wt, October 24, 2006
By CFISHER from Wisconsin

"If your looking for the ultimate in fly rod technology and fuction at a moderate price range this is it. St.Croix has made the Legend Ultra series (which includes ART and IPC technologies) to fit any fishing situation. These rods have the perfect balance between power and feel. They are a fast action rod that still alows for the user to feel the rod load and make a complete, perfectly timed cast. In adtion to the rod itself you get a lifetime of service and warranty from St Croix which if you own and use a flyrod enough you will use! This is an A+ product. CFISHER"
