"Eventually you can get food deep fried and pretty tasty with this cooker, but it has some basic problems, one really serious and the others somewhat minor. Basic and # 1 problem: The control dial on the propane regulator is PATHETIC! It has about 20 degrees of loose "play" but the biggest problem is that heat control is very hard to set and maintain. I tried to maintain a temperature of 350 degrees. After slowly (took a long time) getting 350, addition of food to the oil caused a change, naturally, but adjusting back to 350 was about impossible. Turning the valve either allowed too much propane or too little, even with minute adjustment. Slight turning of the dial caused nothing; slighty more increase caused the temp to shoot too high. I had a hard time maintaining temperatures between 325-375. Set the dial too low and the flame went out. Set the dial too high and it almost melted the cooker. This control valve could be VASTLY improved. #2: Can't see the flame. Unless you squat (kills my back) and look through the hole for the lighter, the only solution is to lift the pan, oil, food and all, off the burner to see the flame. Or, watch for yellow flame reflection on the air vent adjustment. # 3: There is a lot of yellow flame and thus lower heat and wasting of propane. # 4: Air vent: Close it? Open if full? Half way? NO advice in the "manual", which is of course next to worthless. # 5: Baskets have holes in bottom and sides but none in corners or on the curved edges. This means when you raise baskets to drain oil some oil remains in the basket. I drilled holes in the edges to solve the problem. # 6: No lid. It would have been VERY nice had they supplied a lid. I have made a plastic cover for the pan and the baskets to keep dirt and critters out. No, I don't leave oil in the pan. You need to get a good night's sleep before cooking with this unit. Tell King Kooker to fix the above problems and it will be a first class cooker."
