With six ball bearings and one roller bearing, you're always assured of the smoothest retrieves with the Emblem® Pro Reel. The elongated ABS spool has a large diameter that lets line flow freely in enlarged coils, produces minimal line memory and results in less spool-diameter change for maximum drag consistency. This huge spool design also facilitates oversized drag washers for faster startup and rapid heat dissipation. The corrosion-resistant Twist Buster™ line roller ensures minimal line twist, and GyroSpin™ provides balanced operation. The Infinite Anti-Reverse virtually eliminates handle back play and guarantees solid hooksets. And the reel handle folds down for storage with the push of a button.

Daiwa Emblem Pro Reel 5500,October 7, 2009
By Donzafrom Maryland
"Excellent reel absolutely no problems with the reel useing 20 pound power pro test cast like mad extra spool is nice for heavier test line. No problems with premature bail closeing, really nice reel. And for thr price you cant go wrong. You can also downsize on the spool size if you dont need as much line. Nice touch."

"Horrible reel for the money. I was completely disappointed with it. The reel would skim against its own frame and is huge."

diawa "emblem" spinning reel,June 29, 2009
By chewbone
"I decided to upgrade and subsequently spent more $ to buy this Diawa reel vs. the "Black Gold" models I have used for years. Before purchasing the Emblem, I read the posting on this and other "boards" and all were pretty positive and mostly focused on casting distance. I debated when buying it because as a youngster I had a spinning reel that had a "small skirt" on the spool just below the line and that old reel constantly allowed the line to get under the spool and wrap around the spindle. When I didn't see any negative posts about this, against better judgment and experience, I made the purchase. I used the reel for the first time saltwater fishing for tarpon and I can't count the number of times the line tangled just as i suspected it might. I even ended pulling off 75 to 100 yards of line to eliminate the potential for over spooling and it still wrapped the spindle. When this happens you better hope you don't have a "fish on" and to fix the problem you have to completely take the spool off making sure you don't lose the knob in the process. Needless to say, for such a good company and the price of this reel its one of the worst reels I have owned."

Emblem pro 5500,January 20, 2009

"I bought Diawa's Emblem Pro and paired it with a 12 ft. Heavy action Ocean Master rod specifically for catfishing on the banks of the MS River. My main objective was to be able to sling 8 oz. weights as far as 100 yards and it does that very well. I spool it with 30 lb. Power Pro braided line. The casts are smooth as silk and the retrieve on this real is swift, strong and steady. I've caught 30 lb. Flathead catfish with this setup no problem. My only complaint about the reel is that occasionally when I open the bail it does'nt open wide every now and then which seems to be related to how far around I have it turned when I go to flip it... using heavy sinkers probally plays a part in this too. This is something to keep an eye on or you will snap your rig off when casting. The reel is exceptional though and seems to be holding up excellent as well."

Daiwa 5000,November 5, 2008

"I bought this to go with a new Breakaway LDX rod. It is an excellent reel, being very smooth and nice to use. It casts well and handles large fish very well as the drag is very smooth and doesn't fade or over heat. It's well worth the money! Just one note; read the users manual and save yourself any potential problems."

four star,April 30, 2008

"As of this time I am still getting used to the surf fishing program. I do like the way the reel is so smooth. I have been more or less practicing with the outfit. It is too cold here in the NorthEast to be on the beach and the last report was the stripers are in the Hudson River system. I will let you know at a later date how the reel performed. I do like the way it feels as of now."

first rate distance reel,January 22, 2008
By MLBSRfrom Van Nuys, Cal.
"This is the only way to go for long range, all-day-long casting. It takes a bit of effort to get it out there compared to a casting reel, but you never have any problems with backlash, line damage, etc. I use mine with Trilene Big Game 15lb. line and a 25 or 30lb. shock leader with 4oz of lead on a Daiwa Emcast 12ft. MH spinning rod . Also, you MUST invest in a Cannon casting aid. With this setup, I can throw bait over 100 yds. as long as I want and get good results. I fish in Malibu, Cal. from the shore, and I get sand bass often. This is a lot of fun. The reel is very smooth and the retrieve is fast enough to get your rig of the bottom when fishing in and around rocks so that you don't get stuck. There really is nothing else to compare to this reel at anywhere near the price. Buy it and you won't regret it. I've used mine for several months and it seems to get better each time."

"This reel will handle the largest striper and the bigest bluefish with no problem weather it's in the surf or in a running river .It casts a plug like a dream. I have the model 5000 reel teamed with a Tica 10' 6" surf rod with 30 lb brided line .This is a great reel for the money it compares to the more expensive ones out there ."

Daiwa Emblem Pro Reel Review,November 21, 2006
By Lawrence49008from Kalamazoo, MI
"The reel balances well on the extra long rod and long cork grip on my steelhead rod. I am especially happy with the 'extra' large capacity spool, it functions just as I wanted it too - allowing me to cast slightly heavier line further and to have more control over the speed of my retrieves. I use this reel primarily on pier heads and break walls on Lake Michigan. I focus on steelhead, but the drag on this reel handles chinook salmon well too. The bail release casting feature on this reel is great, allowing to properly place the line and bail for almost problem free casting.
I have only one concern. When I first started to use this reel, I had a problem with the line running under the spool after a cast and reeling line onto the spindle inside the reel - causing damage to the line and having to remove a 30 yard section of line and re-rig the rod. It was my fault for not paying attention, but would have been nice to know that was a possibility and tips on how to maybe avoid this problem before having the experience. After a couple of times having this experience on the first two days of use, I have never had a problem after knowing how to position the spool before the casting action.
I have always been a fan of Daiwa products, I own five other Daiwa reels and two of their one piece bass rods. This spring I will be travelling down to Port Charlotte, Florida and I intend to use this same set up to cast into the ocean."
