"I walk the fields and woods with my dog 2-3 miles each day. This seems to be a great boot for my need. Minimal break-in, great fit and looks, and quite comfortable. I would have given it 5 stars except the 1st pair leaked. As usual Cabalas customer service handled my return and replacement extremely well."

"I think Cabela's made a good choice by stocking Danner boots. I'm a retired Motorcycle officer and wore Danner Knee high boots to ride for 18 years as well as hunting and hiking boots by Danner. I found all of my Danner boots to be comfortable and tough, as well as long service from them. My new boots, the radical 452 GTX hikers have been found to be just as great. "This is a superior hiking and hunting boot. I have been wearing Danners for over 20 years without complaint. I have tried other brands on occasion but they only get used as a boot to wear around camp. I'm an avid bow hunter so I put a lot of miles on my boots."

"I (an eagle scout) took these boots to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico this year and they worked wonderfully. We hiked 75+ miles through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and I didn't have one problem. Despite being beat up pretty badly by the rocks, there are only a few scratches on the leather (the only thing this did was make them a bit of an eyesore but this didn't take away from how waterproof they are and how they perform). I was surprised that there were so few issues with them after traveling that far. They are nice and waterproof as long as you don't step into a puddle more than 6 inches deep like I did during a thunderstorm! The water came pouring in over the top of the boots. This however was not the fault of the boots, just me. They kept me dry on all of the 60 creek crossings on the trip. They were fairly breathable, are still in good shape, are as durable as they were when I bought them, and are ready to travel another 75 miles! I am saying all of this after traveling over 150 miles in them!"

"I just ordered my third and fourth pair of these boots since I thought they may be discontinued. I like the forfoot width and how the instep fits since I have high arches and wide feet. These boots are comfortable and work well in the desert, I hike mainly in the Grand Canyon. The boot is also fairly light and supports me and my 40-50 lb pack, I weigh about 205 lbs.
The soles could hold up better, and last pair I had some problem with stiching pulling through the leather on the toe box and side of the boot. But I obviously still like them enough to order several more pairs. The Gore-tex works well and the boot breathes well even in very dusty conditions. Also used a worn out pair for backpacking through water for several days and they held up Ok in the Paria River.
Went on a 4 mile hike first time wearing one of my new pairs and they fit fine, no problems with my feet. I like this style of boot, which they would keep the same shape and maybe add a Vibram sole for newer design."

"As previously noted by other purchasers of the Danner Radical 452 GTX Hiker boots, they do require some breaking in. It took about a week of wearing these boots daily for them to feel comfortable. Until then, they were somewhat stiff. The sizing chart for these boots is very accurate. I hike 4 to 8 miles 3 times a week...I love these boots. Especially hiking up steep, loose shale trails, they give you very good traction and stability. When coming down a steep fire road they grip and do not slide - very comforting to have that control. All-in-all, they may be the best hiking boots I have owned. One other added benefit is that they are waterproof...great when crossing creeks. I would recommend these boots without reservation!"

"I've been through so many Chukkas throughout the years. I couldn't even recount all the brands.
Just for once I hoped (as I always do) that these "chukkas" might finally be good enough.
To summarize...these are the best I've ever had.
So to address what some say...that the 452's are tough to break in. Well, at least they require a break in! Only the best need to be broken in. Like a good boot, or good skates, or Allen Edmond Shell Cordovan wing tips ($500) or any footwear that's built to last. They'll need to be broken in! These are no different. Still, it took me less than a week of wearing them every day to make them perfect for my feet.
But, they are different in that they seem to fold to your feet as I've never had before. I walk a couple of miles every day for execise on top of my daily activities. I have been doing so with these boots (they're not actually boots) and I can tell you I've NEVER had the pleasure of walking on such a sturdy and comfortable pair of hikers. These are simply the best I've ever had.
One bad thing about them is that they hold plenty of snow so I suggest you take them off once you get home. Personally, I don't take them off.
I also have a pair of Danner work boots I bought for hunting. They too are outstanding but I must admit, I think these 452's are an even better design.
Buy them! There is a reason, after all these reviews, they have such a high approval rating.
