Pflueger Trion Fly Reels

An innovative oversized ball bearing makes this one of the smoothest-operating reels you'll ever fish. And a one-way clutch bearing lets you enjoy effortless retrieves even with the drag tightened. The large-arbor spool takes up line quickly and reduces line coil. A patented center disc-drag system ensures total drag control. Both the frame and spool are constructed of machined, anodized aluminum, and an easy-release switch makes it simple and quick to change spools. Converts for Right- or left-hand retrieve.

"This fly reel is near perfect. It came with a very good case which I did not realize until receiving it. It is very smooth. The clicker on it is very quiet even though it can still be heard. I love it and have caught everything from 16 in. rainbows, to some really small bluegill on it. It has excelled in all uses and I love it."

"Has a very smooth operation and never had a problem to date with it. I would recommend this reel to any friend. You can't bet the price for a reel that will not let you down and function like a much higher price reel.
Before you purchase a reel that cost several several hundred dollasr, check this reel out first.
I also found the best price at Cabelas."

"This reel is worth the money. I bought it when it was on sale so I wasn't too sure what to expect from it. After using it, I am so impressed with it, I wouldn't think twice about buying it at full price. It is a very good reel. I had to switch the direction of the drag which took less than 5 minutes to do. I will be using this reel on many more great fishing trips for years to come."

"I was living in Montana when I came across this reel... no recommendations, no testimonials. I'm not made of money, so the price looked very right for what seemed like a high quality product.

Since the day I bought this reel (3 years ago), I've been extremely pleased with its performance and use (over 100 fishing days to date). The action is silky smooth, and the drag mechanism is awesome, as it is extremely reliable and easy to manage, even when the line is tight.

Sadly I had to move away from Montana, and so my fishing days are much more limited than they used to be, but on those happy days that I get back on the water, this reel still performs like a champ."

"I may be new to fly fishing, but I know quality when it's in my hands. I took this reel in an 8 wt. Atlantic Salmon fishing in Canada last week and it performed flawlessly! The drag is terrific and really helped absorb much of the work of repeatedly fighting 30"+ Salmon over the four days I was on the water. I plan to buy another one in 5 wt. for trout and bass this summer."

"I don't care how much you spend you are not going to get a better reel, you might get some more features or the prestige of owning a more expensive reel but not a better fly reel, I own several other brands and Pfluegler is the best built by far!!!"

"I have fished for steel head for a few years now and own a few rods and reels. The drag is easy to adjust when fighting a big fish and reels in smooth. The spool and reel are in such tight tolerances that if sand or any other grit gets inbetween them it will not function smoothly, but is easy to take the spool off and flush out in the river.Great reel for the price."

"I used both the Trion 1978 and 1990 reels in Alaska and was very pleased with them. I caught many Chum Salmon in the 8-15 lb. range fishing with an 8 weight line. The reel performed very well. I used a 10 weight line on King Salmon and found it to perform equally well. Changing spools is very easy on both reels."

"I ordered this Pflueger Trion reel after a strong recommendation from a fly fishing fanatic and after reading various reviews on line. The reel is exceptionally well made and designed, particularly the drag. I got the reel for handling red drum in the Gulf of Mexico, salmon and large black bass. The only problem I have had with the reel so far came when I wanted to reverse the direction of the drag by removing and reversing the one-way bearing in the spool. I had to do this because I reel with my right hand and cast with my left. I read the directions carefully, but I could not get the bearing out. I called the factory rep and still could not get it out. Fortunately, in very short time, Cabela's sent me a new reel and this time I succeeded in reversing it. I have practiced casting and reeling with the drag set at various weights and I am certain this will be an excellent reel."

"This is the best reel i have ever used. I have the pfluger summit wich is a brass version of the trion from a few years back an it is the single smoothest fly reel i have used, EVER!
It has a drag system that will not effect the effort needed to reel in your line(wich is great for when you have a huge fish on the end of the line.
I would definitly recomend this product to a freind."

"I bought the 1956 at the Cabela's store in Lacey, Washington a couple months ago along with a Cabela's FT+ rod. This was my first upgrade to a real quality fly combo since I'd been using a $50 Okuma "kit" up till now.
Just like another review here, I originally bought the Trion because of the looks. The reel is beautiful and I love the wood handle. I'm still somewhat new to fly fishing so I really do not have anything to compare the reel to, but it works beautifully from what I can tell."

"At first I just liked the look of it, but once actually using its INCREDIBLY smooth. I think its because it has two bearings in it. Its also very sturdy and well built. The drag is really good and has very tight adjustment settings on it. For the price you seriously cant beat it for what you get. I looked at the other reels and thought why spend that much? Pflueger reels also have an excellant reputation as a very durable product. Get it."

"I am no stranger to Pflueger's Trion I have purchased 3-4 wt, 5-6 wt with the most recent a 9-10 wt I purchased for my wife for her first steelhead outing. We have found all the reels to represent outstanding value, a lot of reel for the money all have performed flawlessly under all conditions. We were curious if the 9-10 would stand up to the big chromers on the Pere Marquette in Michigan we were not disapointed. The reel offered plenty of drag capability to keep the largest steelhead under control. I would heartily recommend these reels to anyone who wants good value and a great reel."
