Rodmounts - well worth the money, September 11, 2009
By Van

"After looking at the Rodmounts for the past few years and trying to decide if they were worth it, I finally got them for an extended fishing trip. I had been using the cloth version, but found them a bit frustrating. The Rodmounts, however, work great! They are most useful when you are driving along a river and trying different fishing holes. You can quickly put your rods in the mounts and move to the next hole. No need to break down the poles, and you can extras along as needed. So, they work great.

The Rodmounts worked well in my Ford Explorer, hooking them to the coat hangers on each side of the door was easy. The only trick was getting them to stay in an extended holding position, it took some practice to get them to hold. However, once they were locked in place with a half turn, they held and worked great. We were not able to get our trout rods to hold in the upper position of each mount, but that did not really matter since they rested on the rubber bottom and only bounced a few times if the road was extremely bumpy. I can't think of a better way to carry your rods along a river, and have them accessible. I wish I had bought the product earlier.

Not worth the money, January 4, 2009
By SalmonDog from CDA, Idaho

"I've had this rod holder for about 5 years now. It was an expensive rod holder for my truck canopy and is not worth the price. I always carry rods in it and the topper bracket failed and broke in the first year. First the lock mechanism in the bar would not hold, so to keep it from coming loose, I taped it up. Then the ball on the end of the bar kept popping out of the bracket. I kept tightening it down until the plastic fingers broke. I finally bought some racheting load bars, zip-tied the rod holders to them and that has worked perfectly, no problems, for the last three years."

rodmount rod holder, June 23, 2008
By dmajor from NC

"Great product. A buddy and I took a trip fly fishing to the South Holston in TN. We jumped to different holes in my Subaru Outback and left our rods strung up between holes (a great help!) Up to 8 1/2 foot rods fit well in the Outback and the suction cups worked great. Another reviewer had trouble with his suction cups so I made sure I put mine up with a lot of outward pressure before I locked the tubes in place. They stayed in place for 4 days straight before I took them down!"

Hang 'em up!, April 7, 2008
By RodbendingRetiree from Northern Illinois

"This rod holder is a very effective for carrying more than 6 one piece or assembled rods inside the protection of your truck cap or SUV. The protection for the rods is excellent and the reduction in rear vision is minimal in a full size SUV. It installs very easily without any special cutting or fitting. However, the unit only comes with 2 garment hook hangars or two grab rail hangars (same device), not 2 of each.
This unit was a great addition to my storage and transportation challenges.

Very well designed product!, March 10, 2008
By EddieF from Lovettsville, VA

"I bought this for my Toyota FJ Cruiser. There are so many options for how to install the two bars, I can't imagine an SUV that it wouldn't work in. The rear bar I installed onto hooks that were there for hanging up laundry, the brackets fit perfectly. To keep the rods up high I used the trim bracket for the forward rod. Both are extremely stable, and I like how you can rotate the actual rod holders up to the top of the bars while driving for increased visibility while not storing rods.

I use little velcro wraps made for managing wires around each rod to keep them from rattling around.

If you have an FJ, this will hold a 9' fly rod perfectly straight without touching the back window or the windshield!

Mixed emotions., November 21, 2007
By BudK66 from Dearborn, MI

"I installed mine, using the metal hooks provided, behind the frame of my pick-up cap windows. Mine have fallen on a couple of occasions when traveling on uneven terrain (once on a 2-track, once on a bumpy surface street) dropping my $550.00 set of hand-made steelhead rods and nearly $200 worth of reels to the bed of the truck. I followed the manufacturers installation instructions to the tee. It is a very nice product...when it stays in place. It has been nice having the rods up off the floor away from the sandy waders, rod holders, beach carts, etc. I just need to find a way to make sure they stay in place without permanently attaching them to my leased vehicle."

Worked great for me, July 2, 2007
By SailsCall from Jupiter, FL

"I have a Ford Excursion, and I put this unit in with an extra set of rod holders. It works so well I leave it in the car all the time. The rods are up and out of the way, well secured too. Excellent product. I use the large coat hanger hooks front and rear."

Rod Holder, July 2, 2007
By DKrup from Valparaiso, IN

"Just got back from a week of fishing and was very pleased with the rod holder. Having the rods up off of the floor was great. It made room for the cooler, shoes waders etc. Once we put the rods in the rack, we didn't touch them again until the next days fishing. We were camping and left the rods in the rack overnight in the van. The security was an added bonus. Quality and construction is very good. The assembly and installation were simple. I didn't care for the tie straps that secure the holder assembly to the pole. They worked fine, but I purchased double sided velcro and cut it to length. Looks and works better. I'm looking forward to using the rod holder on more fishing trips."

Excellet Product, February 20, 2007
By Huntinvet from New Braunfels, TX

"This is an excellent product, with multiple mounting options that I imagine would fit any vehicle. The suction cups I don't imagine will work well, but I can't imagine having to use them.

This is much, much heavier duty than the cheaper racks, fairly convenient and holds the rods securely. Like anything, it has its quirks, and have to work out the best way to use it but compared to the other products I have seen it is well worth the money.

More than a rod holder, November 27, 2006
By TXBoater from San Antonio, TX

"I am using this product in a pick-up camper shell. I mounted it above the windows using the hook side of adhesive velcro mounted to the extension rod. It works great! I also use the extension rod without the Rodmounts as a clothes hanger bar. It has not shifted in the 3 months I have been using it, but it is easy to remove and/or reposition as needed."

"The suction cups are pretty lame.
Inserting the rods into the holder is a pain in the ... as well.
Overall adequate product, not exceptional at all.
