"Get the cast-iron grill as hot as you can then sear both sides of a steak for about 15 seconds before lowering the heat and continuing to cook the steak to your liking. I have used the cast-iron grill in my gas grill for almost everything from prime rib to burgers to chicken and have been very satisfied with the both the flavor of the cook and the juiciness after cooking. The cast-iron grill only covers about half of my gas grill so I am planning to get a second cast-iron unit and forget about cooking on the the grates."

"After I bought a camp chef mvp sport grill, they discontinued the model before releasing the optional griddle plates for it. I looked high and low for a griddle for it, but nothing was the right size. Then I found this 28x14 griddle from Cabela's and gave it a try. IT WAS PERFECT. Its only a 1/2 inch larger on each side than the original griddles would have been, but it fit perfectly on the stove/grill. The thick cast iron griddle distributed heat evenly and I could not find any hot spots. 10 pancakes across the surface and they all cooked evenly. It would be nice if the grease trough was deeper, but if you use the precooked bacon and just reheat it, you end up with far less grease to deal with and no one can tell the difference. I haven't tried the ridged side yet, but I also have to wonder if the direct flame on the side not being used will affect the 'conditioned' surface of the griddle the next time I want to use it. Again, if you have the mvp sport grill and wanted the griddles that never became available, this is the perfect solution."

"I'm new to cast iron cookware and the whole seasoning concept. After reading some comments from other readers that seemed disappointed, I purchased the grill anyway, but remembered their problems. First I washed the grill with some warm water to remove the loose black residue (no soap, just water). After using the grill, I cleaned the bulk of the mess while the griddle was still very warm. With this said, I was very pleased with the griddle. Fit on top of my camp stove, with the wind guards down and made for a great cooking surface. Since the griddle has two sides, I'm not sure yet what the impact to the seasoning will be to exposing the alternate sides to the extreme heat of the stove."

"I previously purchased the same larger version of this Griddle. Huge thing and works well but the on a one burner gas burner the edges don’t get smoking hot like under the burner. This is a good thing to stop the cooking and just keep things warm.
So I purchased this smaller version. It works well but is much smaller and does not hold that food for cooking.
So I wish there was third griddle available which in between the large size and this smaller size."

"Used the griddle the day I got it in the mail, right out of the box. I cooked bacon, eggs, and pancakes on a two burner camping stove. It did an excellent job on all three items. Simple clean up and wiped a little bacon grease on it and stored it in our camper. Glad I bought it!"

"Definately worth the money. I bought it (14" x 28") mainly to use on my gas grill. We had family over the next morning after receiving it & I cooked 18pk of eggs, 2 pounds bacon, 2 pk sausage links & a batch of pancakes. It worked great right out of the box with no seasoning required. I do wish the grease pit was a little larger (had to spoon it out accasionaly) but other than that it's great. It will expand your grill cooking for items that you just can't cook on, or is difficult to cook on a grill. I have not had a chance to use over the open flames at the fire pit yet, but I'm sure it will work out great."

"After the online purchase and quick delivery of the large version of this grill/griddle, I was very impressed with the quality and craftmanship of the merchandise. This particular piece of cookware was given to a friend of mine that runs a small cafe in my hometown. I gave it to her as a one year in business anniversary gift.
