"This is an excellent skillet and I've used it many times which has had the effect of building up a smooth cooking surface. There is a granular surface on the inside of cast iron pots, skillets and ovens which allows the adherence of the patina to the utensil. The patina builds with usage and creates a non-stick surface on the cast iron. Without this granular surface, the patina flakes off during use and cleaning partially defeating one of the purposes or benefits of using cast iron. An understanding of why there is a granular surface should overcome the concerns of some users over the less than smooth casting. Just keep cooking and watch it improve!"

"I used the 14" skillet to cook a scramble breakfast for 5 grown men and three senior Boy Scouts, with room left over! Heats great and evenly, probably couldn't crack the pan unless I shot it with a cannon. Can't wait until the next troop campout so I can cook with it again!!"

"Our troop purchased the 12" deep skillet. The wall of the skillet cracked on both sides of the handle and shortly thereafter the handle broke off completely. The skillet was used a total of 8 weekends over 2 years.....the warranty is only 1 year per the store manager. Until it broke, it was a decent skillet."

"i like the deep skillet with a lid that doubles as a fry pan. the interior surface finish is rough and not what i would call cabelas quality. i spent several hours on each skillet smoothing the inside so it wouldnt wear out my stir spoon."

"We went camping for seven day in the Ouachita Forest, Arkansas. The skillet was the perfect size for camping. We could use the lid to frying eggs in the morning and the large bottom skillet for making camp goulash for supper. It fit perfectly under our Jeep seat!"

"First shipment was broken-- quick call to Customer Service got a new set shipped -- this one was in prefect condition and cooks great-- only problem was trying to return the broken set-- it sat on my front porch for 3 weeks waiting on UPS to pick it up finally Cabelas told me to forget trying to return it and trash it-- great product- great C.S. --- bad UPS Eddy in Marietta"

"We purchased the 14 inch Cabelas Cast Iron Skillet. This came pre-seasoned and ready to use. Let me warn you that this thing is huge&heavy. We cooked fried potatoes and eggs for breakfast burritos. Clean up was a cinch & what a feast we had!!! This product was a joy to use and held more than enough food for a hungry crowd. I highly recommend this product. Did I mention that the lid doubles as a skillet?"
