Installed rope lights up under gunwales,July 7, 2009

"I wanted to illuminate the inside of my side gunwale compartments on my bowrider because I would consistently have people shoving cameras, shirts, empty cans up in there during evening cruises and when it was time to get off, no one could find their stuff or I would have to deal with all the empties the following morning because as you know, out of sight out of mind.
I was able to clip one side directly onto an existing wire chase with zip ties. This worked great as these light really don't get hot. The other side was a little more challenging, and I do reccomend letting the lights warm up as they suggest prior to installing. If you find the plastic mounting clips that come with the lights to be a bit awkward for your mounting application, I used plastic clips I had a box of 50 of in the garage for hanging holiday lights from gutters or shingles. wow did they snap right into these.
Anyway, instead of splicing everything into the fuse pannel, I kept things clean and bought an add-on gang pannel from Cabella's, ran the 4 wires onto that, and ran one end of the circuit to the black fuse terminal, and closed the loop to a hot switch on the dash. Now, I flip the swith and have a nice lit interior for people getting in and out and not spilling drinks or forgetting stuff."

"I thought they were great. Easy to use, plenty of brackets, and they gave off decent light. The pig tails on them could be a little longer so you can hook up either side of your boat without purchasing and splicing more wire to them."

"I purchased 2 sets of these lights to use as bed lights in my truck. They work great! Not bright enough to blind you, but certainly bright enough to allow you to load/unload the bed of your truck in the dark. My truck has a low profile topper on it which, when raised, blocks out the back-of-the-cab-light. These, wired to the tail lights (with an inline switch), provide perfect lighting. Installation was easy, the clips provided hold the lights well. I will probably apply some strips of 3M body trim adheasive tape to keep them from sagging in between clips. The warmer they get, the more flexible they are and I'm sure this summer they'll be sagging big time. Good product, great customer service from Cabela's, quick shipping, nothing but good to say about this purchase!"

"I installed these in my truck bed under the bed rails, I put one string down both sides, and probably could have gotten by with just one. But I can see everything in the bed now. They are good and bright, but not blinding and don't hurt your night vision. Installation was easy , clips supplied worked good, and there were more then enough. A lot cheaper then the other bed lights I checked out, and are better then what my fiends have in thiers."

"Great Product! I would have given them 5 stars except there should be a way to hook two or more together to limit the amount of wire splicing. Each 6 foot rope came with about a 4 to 5 foot wire. I used 4 ropes in my boat. So you can imagine all the splicing and dicing I went through. All in all, this is a very minor issue. They give off plenty of light for night time use. As long as they are out of direct view, They do not harm your night vision. They're perfect for mood lighting. They would also work for fishing applications such as tieing a hook, etc. I love them. I put mine up and under the gunwhales so they shed light all around the insdie perimeter of my boat. I still couldn't find anywhere to put them in the open bow. I highly recommend these. 18' Sea Ray open bow"

"Bought two rope lights and found them easy to install and they had plenty of clips for installation. Tied them into the existing light switch to give my center console floor lighting; works great. Tip: since the clips were being installed under the console and it was next to impossible to drill holes, I used Krazy Glue and they are holding just fine; time will tell."
