"I purchased these snow shoes for the purpose of using them to pack game meat out of the wilderness during periods of deep snow. I am not an experienced snowshoer. I do have a fair amount of backcounty ski experience, so I am familiar with how difficult it can be to get around in wild country when the snow is deep. I tried these snow shoes in about 30" of fresh (and very forgiving) snow on flat ground (soccer field) in my neighborhood. I did not use any trekking poles, and under the existing conditions I found that getting around in them was quite easy, and it certainly made traversing through the snow easier than slogging with bare boots alone. However, I would normally prefer skies over snowshoes if I had the choice as I believe skis move easier through the snow than snowshoes, provide better floation for the amount of mass being thrust through the snow, and of course there is the advantage of having quite a bit of forward momentum on the downhill stretches when on skis rather than snowshoes.
However, in spite of my preference for skis, the last few years I have found myself hunting in areas where the weather was forgiving in the beginning of the trip, then later turned nasty and dumped a huge amount of snow. The idea of having to pack out a large amount of game meat without the benefit of skis or snowshoes is quite daunting. Some of this terrain is too challenging for a long ski out. That's why I bought the snowshoes. These shoes are light, the buckle system is simple and effective, and I found the shoes to provide an adequate amount of flotation. However, with any backcounty snow activity, do not adopt the mistaken perception that snow shoes or skis are going to make your trek a picnic. Either way, carrying heavy loads under such conditions is still a lot of work."

"I recently got a pair Cabela's Outfitter Pro Snowshoes as my first pair of snowshoes and have used them pretty extensively. The first hike was a 4 miler up and back on Prospect mountain, followed by a 15 miler in Long Lake, both in New York. These snowshoes have great bindings, never once had either of them loosen up."

"These snow shoes were easy to adjust and get on and off. They worked very well in the very heavy powder and through steep walks through the woods. They also performed well on icy packed snow. I am impressed with the quality of the webbing and attachments. I hope to get many active years from them. They've gotten quite a work out this year since we've had over 200 in of snow and it's only Feb!"

"I "had to" choose these snowshoes because the rest of the Cabela's line were all on back-order. I am not disappointed.
I purchased the largest.
The bindings are easy to manage and cinch/ratchet securely. The metal cleats work very well on packed snow & ice. The shoes track in a straight line and hold up well going up and down the drifts through the pines. The shoes are light and easy to walk in.
We've had record snow falls and deep drifts. I have been out several times and have had no complaints or failures. It's a great workout!"

"i bought these for my wife for Christmas, since she wanted to continue her walks in the winter with deep snow. the shoes worked great, they sink a little lower than the traditional web type shoes, but worked very well. As a first time user, it took only a small amout of time to become very comfortable walking with the shoes attached to her feet. wonderful product, time will tell on durability. would recomend"

Very Good Value - Buy a Size Up,January 1, 2009

"These are my first snowshoes so I cannot compare to others. They worked well in varying types of snow that was 24-26 inches deep. I had pretty natural steps and was not fatiguing because of them. The ratchet buckles over the feet are incredible, but as others have stated I wished that the heel strap could be just as ingenius. I hiked in rough terrain for about six hours in upper MI and I noticed that I was getting some unwanted heel twist in uneven snow.
The biggest suggestion I would recommend is to buy a size up if this will be your only pair. I would disregard the weight ratings almost entirely. I am 215 and the 9x30s could not keep me up in the varying snow conditions (not really even close in some of the lighter snow). I am confident that the size up would eliminate this problem entirely, and Cabela's was fantastic as usual in allowing me to exchange them.
Overall a good buy and I would recommend them. The Cabela's Alaskan Guide Snowshoes would have been my second choice (very nice, plus made in North America vs. China)."

"Overall I think they are a great buy. The ratchet buckle is easy to use even with gloves on. They have great grip for doing the uphills and are nice and light weight. I purchased the size recommended for my weight but would probably bump up to the next size as I could not use them without sinking in the powder. Medium crust to hard pack was great."
