Hicock pistols,August 24, 2009
By blackpowderwhitesmoke
"Bought two of these beautys for shooting in Cowboy action shoots.fronteirsman class. Took them to the range to sight them in,using 20gr of FFG,and .375 balls,no wad.they were spot on at 25 yards! groups of 4 inches shooting duelist (off hand)were the results. Could not speak highly enough of the quality of these pistols, fit and finish were what we have come to expect from pietta, and have yet to see a better quality pistol from any other importer. the .36 caliber shoots flat with little recoil, and are great for SASS events, knockdown power on reactive targets was great during the first full match i shot them in. They are very attractive revolvers as well, the pictures on line do not show the engraving well enough,as they have a lot more detail than i expected! i would recomend this wheelgun to anyone that shoots BP or collects BP guns. fun at the range, easy to load, and very well priced! Thanks again to Cabelas for another great deal!"

Kutos to Cabellas and Pietta,July 9, 2009
By capandballshooterfrom Andalusia AL.
"I bought one of these last week It is the third BP revolver from Cabelas in a month. The other two were 1858 Buffallo, and the 1858 5 1/2" 44 reviews for those are already under thier catagory. This 1851 is one really fine piece both in appearence and in performance. the first time out with the first 6 rds.It grouped a 3" group off sand bag at 75ft.It did shoot 3" high and 1" right. That puts a smile on my face. next 12 were Quick draw at 30ft after one flyer. 5 head shots in about a 7" group and 6 chest shots with a group of 4 within 8" and 2 within 10". After I left the range, I came home picked up the phone and ordered another one just like it and a 1851 Navy plain jane to boot. They arrived today. They both look as good as the other 3 I purchased and I expect they will shoot just as well. I would recomend Cabelas BP fire arms to anyone. They provide a excellent product that can fit any budget. Buy a BP revolver and get shootin Pard. Best of luck and be safe. Capt Vic"

Very Nice Firearm,April 12, 2009
By Mordecaifrom Los Angeles
"This is a fine-looking piece. I am using it as a display model, so I can't comment on shooting it. But the lock work and trigger pull are flawless. Fit and finnish are lovely. Very nice engraving. Nice faux ivory, hand-filling handles. The 1851 Navy is the most beautiful of the percussion revolvers to my eye, and the extras on this really enhance the aesthetic of it."

Bought Two,December 24, 2008
By cloudswimmerfrom Orange County, CA
"I started with one of these and liked it so much I ordered another a week later to have a pair.Hickock's actual presentation 1851's were blue engraved as these are, not nickle which I like. The fit and finish are overall very nice.My only gripe was the second gun did not have the dimple on the grip frame butt for a shoulder stock like the first one did, so I returned it and they sent me another that does so I have a matching pair.Kudos to Cabela's no hassel return policy.I bought these planning to replace the grips with custom faux ivory hickock eagle grips, but the grips that come with them are solid, feel good, and fit very nicely, so I'm in no rush to replace them yet (but eventually will for asthetics) For the money these are great historical replicas that are almost too pretty to shoot........almost :)"

Better than I expected,September 17, 2008
By Hub48from Lake Tapps,WA
"I just received this particular version of the 1851 Navy and wow, what a beautiful gun! I bet Wild Bill Hickok's own gun(s) wasn't nearly as nice as this example. Fit and finish overall are excellent. The grips were just a tad off where they meet the front of the handle frame but then I just might be a little overly particular. As for the bluing on the gun I would rate that as excellent. The nicely embelished laser engraving really brings out the beauty of this revolver. I can't wait to shoot it!"

Lovin the 36`s,March 10, 2008
By russ54from Gilbertsville,NY
"I had many bp revolvers over the years and these navies beat them all. Pietta has come a long way and I believe they turn out and excellent product now. To me the lockwork is tight and the indexing is smooth. I never owned a Uberti and I hear they are prazied for quality but I am quite sure these Pietta navies will give them a run for their money. Thanks Cabelas"

Beautiful 1851 !,June 17, 2007
By Bo5150from Redneckville, Washington State
"Upon recieving this psitol I was pleasantly suprised, and as per Cabelas normal , the quality of this pistol was right on track with the other ten or so I have bought from them through the years, albeit different models of course. Fit and finfish were nearly perfect . The case hardening on the frame hides the engraving a little , but it is nice engraving . I took it off and did high polish white steel . I have found that Piettas that are case hardened are a mixture of steels that once the case hardening is removed are hard pressed to rust, especially if polished with alluminum polish . They are obviously Alloy Steel of some sort .The barrels assembly is engraved very nice and deep too ,and the backstrap of brass has a very nice tastefully done scroll engraving peice too. Grips are solid and feel nice, not just some plastic hollow panels, these are thick solid blocks. All in all I rate this gun very high as one of my favorites and am sure I will be buying another one to match this one soon. I highly recomend you buy one ! You won't be disapointed and the picture on the website does not do this fine looking weapon justice at all. The frame is engraved 95% , the barrel is 70% , backstrap is 20% .
Enjoy !!"

yank six shooter,April 24, 2007
By levergunnerfrom Texarkana Texas
"I purchaced this 51 navy at the Cabelas in Austine Tx. Its a lot better made than my older 51. After I returned to Texarkana Tx. I sall the sight was bent. I took it out to the range and I guess it was made like that because it shoot great. I shot from a bench than free handed at eight yrds it was shooting groups that a quarter could cover. I was using 25 gr of fffg and a speer ball .375 with cci and remginton caps. These guns are fun and cheap to buy and shoot. There good for rabbits or any small game or a snake gun. Have fun with your new navy and be safe."

Civil War Replica Revolver,November 28, 2006
By JosephPfrom Babylon, New York
"I purchased my 1851 Navy .36 Caliber civil war blue/ white revolver from the online catalog. I knew I was going to receive a nice firearm when I saw it online. When I received it and opened the box I was amazed at the excellent workmanship that was put into the making of this firearm. It is a firearm that looks authentic as can be. The engraving on the cylinder is excellent. The white Ivory faux grip has a perfect feel to it. I have yet to fire my revolver and may just keep it in a display case as it brings me back to the days of the civil war."
