Kershaw Alaskan Blade Trader Knife,November 18, 2009
By mitchdog22from sequim wa
"I laughed when i read some of these reviews! People are just stupid. Im only 21 but i have killed over 16 deer, and do elk and bear. This knife is all you need from sawing a 240pound 4 point in half so your old man can help you pack it out on a back pack or for skinning and guting. The blades are sharp and hold their edge well. And changing blades is easy even in -20 blizzards of pouring rain. I love it so much i even bought my dad one!"

Great for Elk,November 18, 2009
By RTArizonafrom Unit 5BS, AZ
"I bought this set just before our October 09 AZ Elk hunt. My son bought me a set of Kershaw chief knifes a few years ago so I did not think I would be disappointed. As luck would go, I did not not get an elk but two of our four, bagged one each. Both of them used my Kershaw Alaskan set to field dress, then skin and none were dissapointed. All three blades held tight, and the edge stayed sharp for both of the animals. I would highly recommend this set."

Trader Knife,October 7, 2009
By WhitetailRossfrom Seward, NE
"I used this Combo knife on the first deer that I killed this season. It worked very well. It was handy to have every tool with in reach while I was in the field. Very sharp blades and a good saw for the pelvis bone. Helped me make quick work of the deer. Great tool to have if you plan on filling your tag!!!!!!!"
"An innovative design that enables a hunter to carry one tool to do skinning, gutting, and bone sawing all in one sheath. Beats the heck out of carrying a bone saw, Wyoming knife, and hunting knife separately. Easy to trade out blades, good steel. An all round good product."

Sharp blades/Poor Design,September 14, 2009
By ADfrom Fairbanks, Ak
"I bought the Kershaw Alaskan Blade Trader here at the base exchange store at Eielson AFB, AK before going on a Caribou hunt this past Aug. I shot a nice bull and decided to use the Alaskan Blade Trader to field dress this animal. Wow what a miserable expereince. The rubber locking mechanism on the handle that keeps the blade in place over the butteryfly shaped metal insert kept opening up, causing the blade to constantly fall inside the animal. Fortunately, I had my old standby knives with me to finishe the job, or it would have been a much longer process dressing out that bou on a wind swept, raining, sleeting mountain top.
I called Kershaw about the horrible expereince with the knife and they first wanted me to pay to ship the knife to them, but after consulting with the supervisor, they agreed to send me a new handle. They also suggested using a set of pliers to squeeze the handle locking mechanism together to tighten the blade to the handle. I tried it again on the moose I shot last Friday, and to their credit, it did work better. Not perfect, but better. I still used my other knives, but it was not coming loose as much. The blades are sharp and do hold an edge well.
I have the Gerber field dressing kit that comes with a T-handle skinning/gut blade and a separate T-handle bone saw and a carrying sheath for both ($34.99). Combine that with your standard Gerber Gator II folding knife ($32.99) or a standard Buck Knife ($49.99) for a caping/general boning knife and you're set. A much better and effective set-up than the Kershaw.
STAY AWAY."

Blade Trader,March 31, 2009
By Gerald52from Hagerstown, MD
"When I received this knife, I immediately opened it and checked it out. It appears to be very functional, blades are extremely sharp. Only problem I have found so far is I am not real satisfied with the way the blades connect to the handle. Feels a little awkard and doesn't look real secure. Haven't had a chance to use it in the field yet but have tried it on some steaks at home cuts nice and trims easy. This winter in the woods will tell the true story."

"i used this knife on a white tail deer, the saw is to weak it would bend and stop cutting. the last thing i want is a wild saw blade on a deer trip. the gut hook blade was great sharp and preformed the task the best, except i left it under a tree in Wisconsin..........."

3 Blade System Kershaw,December 4, 2008
By MontanaElkSlayer77from Butte, MT
"I was only dissapointed with the latch that holds in the blades. I had to squeeze the latch to tighten up the blades because it became loose. I don't recall if it was from using the saw on my Elk or not. I would give it a 5 if the latch was better. But also, great buy for the money, everything was very sharp, and the saw worked great, after I figured out you have to squeeze the latch back together."

Outdoor Groomsman Gifts,November 10, 2008
By outdoorsgroom
"I was recently married and myself and all my groomsman are serious outdoorsman. I bought each of my groomsman this knife set and they loved it! They have only used them a few times since then, but they have held up great and do wonders on whitetails. My biggest regret was not purchasing one for myself originally, but it's on the way now."

Kershaw Blade Trader,November 6, 2008
By ElkRusfrom Utah mountains
"Used it on an elk this season and it felt as sharp at the finish as at the start. I like the weight because I backpack in. The feel is light but balanced and the grip is secure. The skinner was very efficient. The gut hook had to be at the right angle to perform well; this may have been me because I hadn't used a hook before. Warning- I twisted the knife while separating the hip joint and the handle "loosened" creating a bad condition. Cabelas is exchanging it-still great customer service-. They would exchange it but I think this knife is worth another try."

Kershaw Alaska Blade Trader,September 25, 2008
By Bobarinofrom Californian hunting in Wyoming
"Great field set of knives with blades that keep a sharp edge. the locking system does not allow movement when working, but the tight lock is a little hard to work if your hands are wet or covered with fatty oils from field dressing. Removing the blades for washing makes it a lot easyer to get clean."

Kershaw Alaska Blade Trader,August 12, 2008
By lhackfrom Iowa
"Bought this set last year and have used it lots of pigs and deer. My favorite blade is the gut hook blade, very shape and easy to use. Changing the blades is some times work when its -10F and your full of blood and freezing. But hey for the price of the set and all the different blades its well worth it."

Kershaw Blade Changer,July 16, 2008
By Shoot338
"Got one for my brother and son for Christmas and got one in return for my birthday. All three have been used to skin deer, elk, and black bear. The point on the drop point blade has broken off on all three of them. Extremely sharp, but also thin and brittle. Simple grind job made them good as new and stronger. The gut hook is awesome. Not only does it do a fantastic job on the skin and stomach muscle, but it will open the rib cage on a medium sized bear or deer like a zipper and with very little pressure. Great product. The gut hook is just as sharp as the skinning side of the blade, so keep your fingers out. I was wearing heavy rubber gloves while skinning a bear and pushed my finger (unthinkingly) into the gut hook for more leverage and, you guessed it, I ruined the rubber glove and had a very sore finger for quite a while. Not the knife's fault. Buy one. You won't be sorry."

excellent,April 4, 2008
By willie34from u.p., michigan
"i bought the blade trader just before deer season last year to replace my old blade. it worked even better than i expected. both blades are verry sharp and open game like a zipper. the bone saw was the biggest surprise, when i first got it i didn't think the saw would work verry well but it cut through the bone with ease. the only flaw is if you don't wash the saw blade right away and dry it, it will go rusty. but other than that i'am verry satisfied and would reccomend this to anyone out there."

Good Knife,February 29, 2008
By Anonymousfrom Craig, CO
"I have been very pleased with this knife, and this is the second one I have purchased. You must remember to clean the saw and oil it as soon as possible after use. It has held up well after many field dressings, and it holds an edge after sharpening."
