"These reels are excellent. I own a 14 series and 20 series and they have effectively retired all of my other reels.
Most of my fishing in the salt is done for blues, stripers and fluke in the sandy hook area on up to around fire island and these reels have never faltered.
Everything from porgies up to 40+ stripers, no problems, hangups, failures or complaints.
Both are on 6'6 Trevala rods and that has got to be the best combo going in my opinion. the 14 is on a medium, 20 on a medium heavy and the sensitivity and strength is incredible. I've thrown everything from killies and chunks, to eels and bunker and time after time, these reels perform.
The only complaint i have is the clickers are a bit light for any sort of a current or when running live bait over some structure, other than that, i love these reels."

"I own Torium 30 and 50 reels and I use them for surfcasting here in Hawaii. These are excellent reels! I back both reels with 100 lb super braid with mono in the frount. The Torium 30 holds about 300 yard of 60 lb mono and super braid line combined. And the Torium 50 holds a total of 200 yards of 100 lbs mono with 200 yards of 100 lbs super braid line. The reel is smooth to cast and feels awesome to reel in. I also own a couple of the black and gold Diawa Sealine 50 high speed reels. I just love both of these reels! They feel and work so much better than the old school Penn Senators and Newell reels that I've used in the past. I am so glad to own these reels... I consider buying these reels one of the best investments that I have made."

"I use this reel for offshore bottom fishing on the Gulf Coast. It can handle big grouper or small snapper and everything in between. I've been using Penn reels for years, and I still do, but this Shimano high speed reel makes it a lot easier on you when you're dropping baits in 120' of water all day long."

"I bought a Torium 20 this past summer after having success with the Shimano Tekota, but needing a reel without a level wind. I have caught a couple of kingfish with the reel that were over 30 pounds a piece. The reel is easy to cast, allows fish to peel drag smoothly, and isn't showing signs of corrosion after getting drenched in saltwater a few times on the ride out."

"I purchased the Torium 14 in part because I've used a Torium 16 for a year with excellent results and wanted a smaller version for lighter tackle applications. Both cast extremely well, smooth drags, the high speed gearing on both is great for high speed lure retrieval for fast swimming west coast salt water species like Bonito and Barracuda. The combination of high speed retrieve and more than adequate torque or cranking power is also useful for deep water vertical fishing. I use 65# Power Pro braided line on the 16 and 20# Berkely Big Game on the 14 and in both cases they perform well."

"I recently purchased the Torium 14 and on its first outing it certainly lived up to the high standard set by Shimano products. I spooled it with Caela's Fluuorescent Yellow Ripcord SI 10lb which balanced the reel beautifully. The first thing you note about the reel is the quality of the drag system. When fish were taking out line the drag was smooth and even with light braid i am sure this will enable fish of considerable size to be caught without fear of break offs due to mechanical error (human error more likely). The retrieve is excellent and the large handle makes it a particularly comfortable reel to use. I am using this reel for salt water fishing, primarily on the bottom in depths up to 60m but will also use it for jigging due to its high retrieval ratio. I would recommend this reel without hesitation to anyone who is serious about fishing."

"I am a proud owner of a Torium 20. This reel is a lot smoother than I originally thought. Easy to cast and smooth drags. I've used it for ocean fishing for quite some time and haven't had any corrosion what so ever. This summer I landed a bat ray (Myliobatis californica) that had about a 5 foot wing span with no problem. The reel held up nicely. Well worth the money."
