"They have a nice story written on the cap itself, but the flaps surprisingly do not go down as you probably expect, thinking about now just hunting but say downhill skiing as well.
You should be able to put them down and tie up around your chin if the wind gets very strong as they write on the cap! No way you can do that in reality.
You do not want any decor-flaps for that price and purpose when you need 100% functionality.
I would put 3 stars but make it 4 only because of the gore-tex membrane."

"Cabelas recommended a slightly larger size when ordering a gore-tex lined cap. I did this and the cap is too large. I will not return the cap since I am am bald and it is 8 degrees below zero this morning. I will tie the ear flaps under my chin to secure the cap."

"I love hats. But it takes a good hat to stay on my head very long. Since I purchased this hat in early December, I haven't left the house without it. I work at a local telephone company, and am in and out of houses all day all winter long. Other than the Elmer Fudd jokes the first week, this has been a truly great hat. It certainly keeps your head warm, and when the wind is nipping at the tops of your ears just pull down the earband and continue with wahtever you were doing. I have since bought another Stormy Kromer, from there web site. Cabelas is the only carrier of the Gore-Tex version, and I must say I do like the moisture wicking ability of that better. All around good hat. I will probably even get a blaze orange one for deer season or those late season pheasant hunts."

"This hat has become my favorite. I wear it to work, yet it is stylish enough to wear anywhere. It keeps my head warm and dry in wet conditions. This hat fits your head very well. It is great in chilly to cold weather, but lacks full ear flaps for the frigid stuff. If you have tuff ears and don't need them to be totally covered, this hat is a must. I just may become your favorite hat as well. A+++"

"I purchased this cap to wear hunting in cold weather and while working outdoors in the cold. I like it so well, it has become my constant companion to cover my chrome dome. Haven't really tested it's resistance to incoming water, but it works, as I've come to expect from Gore-tex, to transmit moisture away and I'm certain it will work the other direction. The ear-flap deal doesn't work quite as smoothly ( or, maybe I'm just not that proficient) as advertized, but I can live with that."

"I thought this cap was exactly what I was looking for. However, if you have a large head (mine is 7 3/4) don't get this one. Their largest size is still a couple sizes too small and they shouldn't call them ear covers, they're just show flaps. If you have about a size 7 head this might work, but I doubt your ears would be covered. Too bad, I liked the looks."

"I bout this hat for deer hunting in South Dakota. It stays on my head even in the most windy conditions and has great warmth for those frigid winter months. The only drawback is that the ear warmers don't cover my entire ear so my lobes are somewhat exposed. Overall, a great product"

"I originally purchased a different hat for winter wear...tried several different sizes but could not get one to fit properly. Upgraded to the Stormy Kromer, and I love it. Stays on my head well, the earflaps are great for when the wind is blowing, and the Gore-tex lining keeps my head dry. I wear it whenever the weather gets chilly, it has kept my head warm even when the temperature was well below zero."
