    Vortex with Air Lucky's, January 18, 2009
By SoyFarmer from Kent County Delaware

"For the amount of money that you spend, I felt like I should have received more than just a motor with wires. There should be an option to buy a kit with everything in it including the decoys. I have used it twice so far, and have had no success on public land with the Air Lucky Duck's."

"To start, the ideal is diabolique which i have to admit. The product works well the only problem which i had to remedy was to buy a dimmer to reduce the rotation speed for my jackites .An intagrated voltage regulater would bring this product to a 5 star mark in my book.A must in setups for hunting snows."

Vortex rotating decoy system, December 15, 2008
    By cabaw from CA

"I like the basic design and function of what is produced. The stand together with the angle of the of the poles that connect to the decoy cause the decoy to fly too low to plants sticking up from the ground or water. It is fine for fields or open shallow water. I would prefer the angle of the V on top of the system to be closer to a 45 degree angle to the ground instead of the 22+/_ degrees it is now. The electrical cord should be closer to 50 feet than the 25 that is provide. It would be nice if the option of an on/off remote switch were offered."

    MODIFICATIONS, December 9, 2008
    By DEADLIESTCATCH

"This is a very good system, but could use a few changes. Longer wire would be good for starters since you only get 25 ft. when you purchase this unit. Also , 2 thumb screws instead of one. Or either , one thumb screw and a 1/4 in. locking pin. I had to add the pin to my unit to keep the motor bracket from tilting side to side when in use. I also made my own stand which seemed to be o.k. I really enjoy using the vortex no matter how the ducks are flying."

Not as good as expected, December 5, 2008
By Luckieducker from Illinois River Bottom Flooded Corn Field

"I put the vortex in use 2 week into the season. Used it with two Lucky Duck air ducks. I put a remote on the floating battery. Everything worked good, EXCEPT the ducks didn't work it, in fact they shyed away from it and would land out 75 yards from our pothole. I will it use next year in a different blind location. I hope for better luck with it as the cost is significant."

    vortex, August 1, 2008
    By putitontheducksbill from Mi

"Seems like a good system, as long as I don't suffer the motor failures that several users appear to have had. I ordered the Lucky Duck wind activated decoys to go w/ it. I tried them seperately last night & found they work well w/ 10-15+ mph winds. I haven't tried them yet w/ the Vortex. I have a question- has anyone tried to use the fixed wing Cabela's decoy set (the "landers) w/ the Vortex? It seems like a great combo, unless the decoys would spin on their axis. Anybody try this?"

    Vortex, July 23, 2008
By mrhills from N. Illinois & Centeral Wisconsin

"I saw this on the website and thought it would be a great addition to my waterfowl hunting arsenal. It was for the first couple of outings, then the motor burnt out. It will start up but after ten minutes the motor get super hot and shuts off. I don't know what the problem is, but I've been reading other posts, all saying the same thing, some last a long time others only last ten minutes. When it did work it was awesome!! I hunt Illinois public lands and this brought the mallards right in, almost right on top of the vortex! Just wished it would be more reliable."

The Vortex of Death, February 21, 2008
By LarrySTL from Lake Carlyle, IL

"I bought a vortex in the middle of the season and I will say it brought the birds in. We have two sunken blinds in our 100 acres of flooded corn. Let me just say that which ever blind had the "VOD" as we call it, is where the most birds were shot. It really brings them in to check things out!"

    Vortex, February 20, 2008
By MRTN from North West Tenn.

"Great system to attract ducks in my area. It is very easy to set up and get going right out of the box. I am using it with the lucky ducks that are suggested to use with the Vortex and am very pleased with how the system works together. When you are calling and working ducks the Vortex looks so real that you might shoot it by accident. Tha only draw back is extreme wind makes it work erratic but when it is windy we put it in a place that is sheltered from the wind or just don't use it. Like I said it is another great tool to use in the pursuit of the Waterfowl in our area."

Best product i've used for duck hunting, February 19, 2008
By papabell from St. Louis Missouri

"I hunt public ground in and around st louis missouri. wanna talk about weary birds? you're lucky to get shots off much less actually take birds. i took this out there with two air lucky decoys and my regular lay out. i would have birds peel off from 500 yards out. circle twice and then come in cupped up. we didnt even have to call. me and two other guys took our limit within 3 hours. we were on the same spot we hunted 3 days before with no luck. this thing is so good i wouldnt be surprised if most states outlaw it. if you want the upperhand in hunting i recommend buying one of these. one thing i want to note that made it easier for set up was to put all my equip. in a sled and walk it out. it can become a bit heavy to lug into the field. worth every penny. actually how about this. dont buy this. id rather have all the birds come into my set up."

spinning wing vortex, January 31, 2008
    By duckmudder

"After purchacing the other brand I bought the vortex. I sure am glad I did. Setup is slow but easy. The cord was too short so I changed it for a waterproof extension cord. I drove a fence post as a holder and it worked great. The biggest improvement was how real the decoys looked. From a distance it looks just like mallards lighting in the spread. I cannot wait to use it next year. I wish this system had a screw in type of pole to make getting the pole in frozen ground easier."

    Great Product, January 29, 2008
    By Matthew1 from Hamilton, NJ

"The idea is great. Works in the field even better when it was operational, but after three motors burned out in twenty minutes of their first hunt I would not recommend this product. Cabelas customer service was great when returning these items. If the motor gets redesigned i will give it another attempt in the field."

    Vortex Review, January 29, 2008
    By etfremdduckhunter from CA

"I received the Vortex for use this year for what I call the "electronic" season in CA. This starts Dec 1. So far so good! NO PROBLEMS! Last year I went through 3 units that failed within the first hunt or two. So far the ducks have not paid a lot of attention to the Vortex- we are using baby mojo's on it- for next year I think I may go back to wind powered decoys- the Air Lucky. I have heard reports on Duck hunting Chat- search DHC that the mallards just went completely crazy with it and where landing all around it- but I have yet to have that experience. We are going to use it for the junior hunt this weekend so I will report back on DHC- just search for "vortex". What I like is that is seams to be working great! It just needs a remote control to save battery life or a longer cord. I would also like to see it come with longer arms to make the duck flight more realistic."

    Vortex, January 29, 2008
    By MStunica from Tunica, MS

"Overall I have found that the Vortex is very effective and drawing ducks toward the decoy spread. I have been using it in a tight hole on a cyprus lake. On the very first day I used it, 8 mallards tried to land on it. However, I recommend that once the ducks start working that the Vortex be turned off because the ducks will flair off of it as they approach. As the season progressed, shutting it down quickly became more important.
The Vortex came from Cabela with only 25' of power line which is not nearly enough since you want the Vortex in the decoys. I had to buy a new 100' power cord on which I installed an on/off switch. When drilling and setting up the spinning wing decoys (I recommend the baby ones) you need to make sure that the decoys hang from the Vortex evenly so when you shut it down they do not hit the Vortex arms with their wings. I had to apply some duck tape to get my to hang just right. Do this before you get in the field.
Before next season I am going to install remote controls on the spinning wing decoys so I can shut everything down.
After getting the Vortex my hunting definitely improved.

sorry i wasted my time and money, January 12, 2008
    By concretej from patterson,ca

"i purchased this product thinking it would help bring the birds in late in the season. i'm sure if i could get it to work it would of attracted birds. the first unit we tried burnt up in about twenty minutes it was working fine and then all of the sudden it locked up and the motor started smoking. cabelas over nighted us a new one which we took out and had the same problems only this time it worked for about an hour before it had a melt down. i think cabelas might want to field test some of the newer models and work out the kinks before selling anymore of them."

    Vortex, January 7, 2008
    By treeblind from Jena,LA

"Great product. I own 2 systems and they work great. They have a few problems that need to be worked out and I hope the maker will consider the hunters point of view. The first one we purchased lasted us about 3 years and I had to purchase another one just recently. The motor has a plastic gear that will not hold up to years of use. I have tried to purchase just the gear, but it is not available. I wish they would allow me to buy just the gear. It takes about 5 minutes to replace the gear if I could purchase it. Other than the gear stipping out, the best duck hunting equipment I have ever seen in 35 years of hunting. We use it in open water and in the woods. Ducks have to come to see what it is. If you are not killing ducks, but you are able to see ducks, it will work. Cabela's is working on doing something with the one that is broken. Great company to purchase from. Try the Vortex and you will kill ducks."

"Used the Vortex during 2007-2008 Missouri hunting season and really had great success. The Mallards love this product. We use Winduk decoys. Winduck also make the "Winduk Vortex© Adapter" ..... this adapter is GREAT ..... keeps decoys hanging and flying in the correct direction with the right balance.
