"I haven't had to use it yet, but I did test it. It shoots a cloud of red spray about 30 feet in distance and 10-15 feet wide, so you don't have to be that accurate. Just make sure you're up wind. The thing I like about this package is the chest holster. Having the spray in your backpack won't do you much good if you have to use it. The chest holster is quiet (no metal parts) and allows for alot of adjustment. So you have it available and also out of the way for shooting your bow or gun."

"As I walk for exercise and my neighborhood has a number of aggressive dogs ( I was in the hospital ER for a pit bull bite which is still healing, no feeling in left hand pinky and severe scar) I carry the spray for protection. A pit bull mix came after me from a local yard and the spray stopped him in his tracks. works very well."

"I've got the bear spray with the full chest holster ready in the tent (my particular bear appears to be nocturnal), but got this to fit the front pocket of my rucksack, in case my bear has diurnal friends... It's about the size of a water bottle, so you can keep it handy, and the holster can be threaded onto a belt for absolute readiness. I'd like to see the UDAP inert practice canisters available as well - otherwise you need to practice with the actual spray to be sure you're going to hit the bear (and not your brother or your dog..)."

"These past two weeks, I have been camping in the back country of Sequoia, Kings Canyon National Parks. I camp alone with my small house dog. At one camp there was a sign advising me of the presence of both Bear and Mountain Lions. While lions seldom attack men they often attack dogs. There were no other human beings for miles of back country roads. Firearms are not allowed in the National Parks. I was certainly glad I had purchased this deterrant for Bears. It would surely work on Mountain Lions too. Walking alone with my dog I now had a new confidence. Earlier in the Park I had a mother bear and her cub come right up to my camp site. The bear patrol ran them off before I could use this new product. Thank you Cabela's for making this product available to us."

"This is one product I never had to use, but felt a lot more comfortable with having it on the hunt. I carried the spray while baiting and retrieving bears on a Canadian bear hunt. I felt that the spray would be better than trying to swing around a firearm in the bush. Sometimes I carried it in my hand and sometimes the holster. I also hung the can up on a branch when I hunted, because a couple years ago I had a cub come up my tree and didn't want the sow to attack me. I would recommend it to anyone on a trip to bear country. I couldn't give the product five stars since I didn't ever have to use it, and could not evaluate it's effectiveness."

"I'll admit that I was skeptical at first glance, but I'm now a devoted lifetime patron of UAPD Pepper Power. This exact product literally saved my life when I unexpectedly encountered 3 large grizzly bears while bowhunting solo in the US Rockies.
I had only two weeks prior bought my first ever can of bear deterrent spray, which just happened to be the UDAP Magnum, 260 grams of the hottest formula on the market.
As I rounded a bend on the well-established game trail, I startled a large female grizzly and her two sub-adult cubs at close range, near 40 yards. The mother immediately drove her head down, ears back, and charged toward me at lightning speed, determined to attack me and neutralize the perceived threat to her two cubs and self.
How could I blame her? After all, I was the one invading their home, not the other way around.
It was a windy morning near tree-line and my first blast toward her at about 10-15 yards out drifted sideways as an oily veil of orange. She slowed slightly, pawing at the ground and shaking her head, but by this time she was less than 5 yards away and still aggressively bounding toward me. This was NO bluff charge! Another rapid and well-aimed blast hit her square in the face at less than 6 feet away!
This very frightened and therefore highly aggressive mother might as well have hit a brick wall as she screeched to a grinding halt, gasping and confused. Unwilling to penetrate the fiery cloud, she immediately turned tail and bolted over the rise from where they had just approached. The two cubs wasted no time in chasing after their mom.
The entire incident occurred in under 10 seconds!
Note: Almost three weeks to the day following my close encounter, I once again crossed paths with these same three bears. This time they didn't see or smell me. I was downwind and well hidden as they broke into an open glade. I watched with fascination and new-found respect for these truly great creatures. It would be a lesser world without them. I was OK. They were OK, a win-win situation for all.
