"Used it for 10 days in Alaska and was pleasantly suprised. It pumps fast and easy and the water tastes great. We were at the end of the salmon run and the lake was littered with decaying salmon carcasses on the bottom and it made me a little concerned with all the bacteria in there, Never got sick, water was great and the ceramic pre- filter only needed to be cleaned twice. The charcoal is very nice to have for the taste.Read the directions and it's easy to field strip.Keep the o-rings lubricated and it runs like a champ.Pumps a litre bottle in under a minute with little effort required. very nice design. Used an MSR last year, but this is way faster."

"I used this water filter system while attending a Boy Scout trip to the BWCA. The system was used to provide water for 9 people for 5 days. Everyone was happy this water system was brought along by me. The only problem I had was how tired my arm got due to the pumping action from filling everyones water bottles 3 times a day. The system was easy to use and made the water taste just like fresh water. I will continue to use this water filter system on future camping trips."

"I used this product on a moose hunt in Alaska. We were right on a waterway, so I used it on fast flow. Before we left, I put it on extra life and pumped water from just a nasty swamp. It did the job, it was slower on longer life, but still effective."

"This is by far the best water purifier I've used. Very fast and easy to use. Simple to clean, which you have to do about every 4-5 liters. However, it only takes about a minute to clean and your back to filling even the largest water bladders in no time."

"This little filter works great! Tryed it on some muddy pond water just to test it, and it worked great! It does seem a little slow, but for a small packable filter, that's OK. If you want 3 gal per min. stay home."

Great, but not quite the MSR,August 22, 2007

"I loved this pump until the moment I was out of water on a portage(Muskeg Lake to Kiskadinna) in the Eastern BWCA and my buddy poured some of his water (produced from his MSR Miniworks EX) into my bottle. At that moment, there was a difference. Hands down, the Vario out pumped the MSR 2 to 1 even on the Slow setting. So you understand how I rated the taste I will tell you how we processed water. I have been told this is backwards by some, and the right way by others. Whether or not the process is correct, it give you a better Idea of the comparison. We gathered water from the middle of lakes in the BWCA and then added the correct amount of Iodine for each container and let them set for 1 to 2 hours. Then we filled our bottles. For the first 2 days out of 6 I loved the water the Vario produced. Had it not been for running out of water on the 3rd day on a portage and drinking the water produced by the Miniworks, I would be giving this a 5 stars. The Vario only left a hint of Iodine taste in the water. I drink a lot, almost twice as much as everyone else on the trip, so I am keeping the Vario because it is fast, easy to pump, easy to clean the pre-filter and produces good drinking water.
One more note. Afte my observance of taste differences, I tested it on treated water with iodine at 2, 3, 4 and 6 hour increments. In water that had Iodine introduced 4 hours prior to pumping, the Vario produced no Iodine taste in the filtered water."

"the best ,i have used others, this one is easy to use, easy to clean and the water tastes great. i was going to buy the hiker pro but the store was out, [waiting for shipment] so i upgraded, and was glad that i did. i like that i could atatch my water bottles to the bottom side of the pump ,plus it came with a o-ring kit ,cleaning kit and easy to follow instructions.
now i can take my kid's hiking without worrying about the water conditions. I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
