"Works great for back up water on river trips. Lot less usage on the silty rivers in Utah and Ariz., so carry an extra filter. Would not travel without it."

"These have always worked well for us in the Boundry Waters. The finished product always tastes great no matter what the water looks like to start with, granted it is pretty good water up there. One filter will usually last us 4 to 5 days. You need to clean the outer filter screen a few times depending on how clean the water is to begin with before the main filter gets too clogged to use anymore. It would be nice if the main filter could be rinsed to extend the usage a little, but all in all the are a great filter."

"True Story: We were hiking the AT two years ago and ran out of water. We couldn't find a good source so we had to settle for this mud puddle with lizards living in it. We thought we were in for a hard hike back to the car because we would be drinking this nasty lizard water, however we were very surprised that the water tasted great. We finished the hike about 5 miles to where our car was on the lizard water. The car contained jugs of water that we bought at a store. We thought it would be better to dump the lizard water and fill up with fresh water from the jugs. Boy did we regret that move. The lizard water that was filtered out of this filter was 100 times better than the store bought water. For the rest of our hike, we talked about what a mistake it was to make that move. I would recommend this filter to anyone - even my closest friends. ~"

Base Camp system and cartridges,November 22, 2006

"I found that the water produced was crystal clear and none of the 3 of us who survived for 10 days entirely on the output of the basecamp system had any ill effects at all. On the other hand the catrtdiges are expensive and fairly quickly became very very slow to deliver. Within about 4 uses they were slowed down tremendously and this was getting water from a mountain stream. I know the life of a cratridge is dependent upon the clarity of the source water but this water "looked" clear enough to drink right out of the stream."
