great rod,October 12, 2009
By JakeSarnowfrom Benzonia, MI
"I have been using my wild river rod for 5 years on the betsie river in northern michigan and it has served me well. I use the 9ft 6in, fast action, medium power and it has plenty of back bone to turn a 20 lb salmon. i would strongly suggest this rod to anyone."

St.Croix Wild River Salmon/Steelhead Rod,May 8, 2009
By fishbumfrom Queenstown, Maryland
"A very responsive and comfortable rod. The longer butt/handle gives a good "arm brace" when fishing tip down on Steelies. It also provides a great "belly brace" without interference with your vest and waders when you are tip up and running. I usually fish 6# or 8# line with a 4# or 6# leader. The tip is very forgiving and the overall action is smooth as silk. I have another St. Croix rod of similar ilk for 2# to 6# line. I love it too but I needed just a wee bit more fighting power for heavier water. The 6# to 12# line capacity is just the ticket for the 6# and 8# line I use. This rod really delivers!"

BEST POLE EVER PURCHASED,December 5, 2008
By SFmember1122from Belington, WV
"I fish rivers that range from trickling streams in West Virginia to the vast San Juan in New Mexico and this pole covers them all. Great for drifting jigs and live bait. I use it mostly for jigging for trout but it will suit for anything, spinning, or running rapalas. Amazing action, very sensitive but tough enough for the strongest hook sets. Would recommend to any avid fisher!!! I plan on buying more from St. Croix."

flimsy lil devil,September 22, 2008
By Surfslayerfrom SoCal
"I use this for everything from surf to the lake and it is a little on the pricey side, but it holds up well. Might be a little too flimsy to be called a medium light though. Hopefully I'll catch something big to really test it out. Overall a good rod."

Versatility and Power reign supreme!,September 15, 2008
By umpoqxfrom Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada
"I first bought this 8'6" spinning MH rod for Salmon, however, the versatility to cast heavy lures and float fish roe is what won me over. I've successfully landed large fish with both techniques. I was really impressed when fighting a Walleye in high very fast moving water. I almost lost the fish when it headed for some brush, however the St Croix held its own and I could see the Walleye skimming on surface time to time, but I didn't know the size. It turned out to be a 10 pound 30 inch specimen landed and released. Plenty of backbone indeed! I never know what I will catch here in these quick flowing rivers, the one I always grab is the Wild River whether it will be Sturgeon or monster Brook Trout or Steelies. This rod has it all. Next is the casting version. Recommend it........I'd be lost without it!"

St Croix Salmon Rod,October 24, 2007
By Tat2d
"I purchased the 8'6" MH specifically for salmon fishing on the Salmon river in NY. The rod performed perfectly on big kings and cohos. There is plenty of backbone to turn big fish and the action is soft enough to absorb shock allowing lighter lines."

I love it, steelhead hate it,August 27, 2007
By chwilliamsfrom Hood River, OR
"I purchased a WS86MHF2 (8'6", MH) for salmon and steelhead here in the Northwest and I've not been disappointed. A versatile rod, it now has become my 'daily driver' for the waters of northern Oregon and southern Washington. It casts like a dream and can fight about everything the Columbia River Gorge can throw at it."

awesome rod,June 4, 2007
By riverkingfrom Louisville, KY
"This is the ultimate river rod. I have used several similar rods and none compare to this one. It gives you the power you need when fighting steelies, but the action of an ultralight if you want to take it to fight the smallmouths."

St. Croix Wild River Salmon Rods,March 17, 2007
By RichBfrom Upsate New York
"I purchased two eight and a half foot medium power and one eight and a half foot medium heavy power Wild River Salmon Rods for my first silver salmon fishing trip in Alaska in the year 2000. This September will be my sixth trip with these rods for silver salmon in Alaska, each of these rods having caught literally hundreds of silvers, and I have never had a problem. I generally use the medium power with half ounce Pixies and the medium heavy with seven eights ounce Pixies. These rods can cast a mile, and have great backbone to subdue quickly the 12 to 15 pound silvers we regularly catch. Needless to say, I'm a big fan of these St. Croix rods!"

St. Croix Wild River,January 6, 2007
By Fishoakfrom Michigan
"These rods are excellent quality and made in USA. I have two of them, and am planning on buying a third. I river and pier fish for steelhead and salmon.
I first bought the WS106ULS2 (2-6# test) I have found this rod to be a little to slow action for my typical fishing methods (Float or fixed bait...pier fishing). I love the rod, but do not get strong hooksets. It does just what it is designed to do, just doesn't match my current methods.
I then bought the WS106MLMF2 (6-12# test). This rod is perfect for me - the medium light is just right for good hooksetting power without overdoing it...enough power for salmon, but not too much to allow very sporting steelheading. This makes it a great float or pier bait rod."

It's just not for Salmon and Chromers,December 23, 2006
By RMB2006from CT
"I specifically bought the WS86MHF2 for light tackle striper fishing. It's perfect for throwing big weightless plastics, plastics on jigheads up to 1oz, and Poppers up to 1oz. The best attribute that I 've found this rod to have was the ability to control my fish and at the same time act as a forgiving buffer to my light line which ranges anywhere from 8 to 14# test. While still giving you all the power you can ask from it, it still is flexible enough to keep thrashing fish in the surf on the hook when they got one more run in them and take off unexpectedly. This rod was recommended by a friend and I'm sure to recommend it to others also."

Worth every penny!,November 13, 2006
By BudK66from Dearborn, MI
"I have been the proud owner of a Wild River rod, model WSLG90LM2, for about 10+ years now. This rod is perfect for split-shot or float fishing the river runs for Kings and Steelhead. It offers the perfect balance of sensitivity and back-bone. I also use mine for back-bouncing spawn in the rivers to pier & surf fishing for Browns and Steelhead. It's a great multi-purpose, multi-species rod. Plus, it's backed by St. Croix's outstanding warranty and service departments. I own a dozen other St. Croix rods and they've never let me down. The very first St. Croix rod I purchased over a dozen years ago had a slight defect in the clear coat. I shipped it back to St. Croix and had a brand new rod within a week. I'd recommend any of St. Croix's rod's to anyone who takes their fishing seriosly. You won't be disappointed."
