Work's well but too expensive, November 18, 2009
By CBMoose

"BC Steel spoons consistantly produce fish........however, if you are fishing shallow to moderately deep streams with rocky bottoms, hang-ups are frequent and this becomes prohibitively expensive."

Buy the Silver, April 30, 2008
By meghamix from Western Canada.

"The 2/5oz are pretty much identical to Acme Little Cleo spoons. However, Little Cleos don't come in genuine silver plate, or half and half...
They do come in copper though...

The clear coat on the BC Steel is much less durable than that on the Little Cleo. Which can be an advantage if you like to make matte-silver finish spoons. - Just rub the clear-coat off with fine steel-wool. Takes seconds. Then refinish the spoon with an abrasive of your choice. Light sand-blasting is best.

Otherwise, the light-duty clearcoat isn't a big problem because you lose so many that it's rare for a lure's finish to have a chance to deteriorate too badly before it's lost to a snag.

I'd give the silver model 5 stars, but the whole selection get 4 stars because of the price relative to the Little Cleos on which the design is based. The Little Cleos come with hooks, split-rings a more durable finish and cost less.

If you put a BC Steel and Little Cleo on top of one another, you can't tell the difference unless you look at the maker's mark. Sometimes, as Bill Herzog (whose name is on the back of the B.C. Steel spoons) points out in his useful book "Spoon Fishing for Steelhead", genuine silver plate can be too bright. Nickel or brass can be better. Little Cleos are available in those finishes.

A very good lure, December 12, 2007
By Steelheadaroni from Great Lakes

"These are deep running spoons with a very good finish. These fish deep, deep, deep, and allow you to catch fish where no other spoon can. The jewelry grade finish works great in steehead water--deep, cold water. Plus they make cool jewelry if you know someone who likes wearing lures, and who doesn't?

The only problem is these spoons will run so deep in the fastest currents that you will lose some on snags. But you will catch lots of fish if you fish them correctly. So buy lots, lose some, and catch fish. The money you spend on these spoons is money well spent.

B.C. Steel, October 16, 2007
By Broken from The Dalles, Oregon

"My selection of lures for fishing steelhead has narrowed since I started using this spoon. The first time I used it (2/5 oz. silver) I caught a steelhead and a chinook salmon, and I continue to have exceptional results. This spoon is my favorite! It is really fun to fish with confidence in a lure that produces."
