"Hi these incredible release split rings really do the job when your fishing with rocks and trees down on the bottom of the rivers!Just the other day I was out fishing with A hard bait when I was casting from the boat that I was in when I ran my hard bait into sunken trees that were down in the river!So what I do is go the opposite direction from were I was snagged up and took my rod and gave it A snap and my expansive hard bait came up form the bottom and I seen that the only think that I had lost was my tribal hook Thank to the Ultimate Lure System!Hears my little trick!When you run your baits into what ever may be on the bottom go into the opposite direction and give your rod A snap and if your not stuck into what ever your in then 75 percent of the time your retrieve your baits!"

"I have lost 3 large fish on spoons using this product. I didn't think I was horsing them that much but each of them made a jump and I thought they threw the bait but once I reeled it in I noticed the hook was gone because the smart link opened up. I think I would rather loss baits that 6 pound largemouth and smallmouth."

"I fish 1/8 oz husky jerks in a river with lots of snags and these smart links help me save big. Like most stuff it will cost a little more to get started, but once I got the extra hooks and smart links, they have paid for themselves with rescued lures. The one gripe I have is every now and then you will lose a split ring along with the hook from it getting turned around. I would give it 5 out of 5 stars if it wasn't for that."

"I live on a 700 ACRE lake that is loaded with timber and big bass. Since I have been using the ultimate smartlink I have landed 15 bass over 8lbs including a huge 14lb 2oz hawg caught on a crankbait. I use the smart link system on everythig from 6 dollar crank baits to 50 dollar swimbaits and time after time I have retrieved my snagged lure back and smartlink has never failed me on any fish, big or small. "Noticed a couple of not so positive reviews here. The only thing I can think of is that these users did not have their particular choice of Smartlink matched to line test. You want to have the Smartlink open just shy of your lines breaking point. This assures you that you can put the maximum amount of pressure on your fish (if needed) and still be confident in landing it. This allows you to have the highest strength Smartlink and still have the ability of it functioning as designed without risk of breaking line before this point. For example, I fish Walleye and use 10lb Fireline exclusively for both Trolling and Casting crankbaits. I have found that the 10lb models both small and large work perfectly. Never lost a fish-not just walleyes, catfish to 20lbs, big northerns, etc. Unless you are to grab the line just above the fish and hoist it in, you Will Not ever lose a fish due to the ring opening. I literally convert every crankbait to Smartlinks as they come out of the box. As with most things new, there is a bit of a learning curve. To gain confidence, I would recommend hooking a Smartlinks equipped lure to your work bench, tree, etc. and back off using your intended set up. Stop the spool and pull straight back until the Smartlink releases. You will want to choose the test strength model that releases just before the line breaks. Once you have done this you will get over any skepticism you may have had. Small investment to insure that your most valuable crankbaits (not just monetarily but the ones that get bit) remain in your possession."

"I have been using the SmartLinks for about 18 months now and must say at first I was skeptial. But they proved to be everything advertised. I use the 10 lb rings on 8 to 10 lb line and have caught several LM bass in the 3-4 lb range. I have also landed 2 stripers over 5 lbs and a flathead cat that went 15lbs. I fish tournaments so it is important for me to land what I hook and I am never concerned about loosing a fish because of ring failure, and the best benefit of all is when I do hang up I don't have to disturb my fishing area to retrieve my bait, just a gentle steady pull on the line and the bait pulls free. Rehook the bait and I'm back in business. I would and do recommend these to my fellow anglers."

"I have been using the Ultimate SmartLink now for 4 years and have never had any trouble with them opening up unless that's what I desire. They have saved me countless LuckyCraft LV500's in shallow water as well as multiple deeper crankbaits. I've had such good luck I have them on all my cranking lures.
I have been experimenting and have found them usefull in all types of applications. The handiest idea is using them on your spinnerbait blades. They are the easiest way to adapt your favorite spinnerbait quickly to different conditions. Blade changes are quick and I have never lost a blade.
Fall has my blade baits working. As everyone knows the hooks on these babies aren't premium by any means. I change all of them using the SmartLink and add a premium hook. Line ties not a problem either. My personal opinion is they allow the baits to vibrate better on the fall and I trust them alot more than the cheap snaps.
I have alot of lures that I have modified with these babies. I have even been using the heavier styles with some jigs in shallow snags or wood. it allows for a smoother fall on heavy line and I don't have to go in and spook fish if I snag up.
To sum up I love them and wouldn't trust any of my favorite lures to have anything other than a SmartLink."

Be very weary of the 6-8lb rings,June 19, 2007

"I've used the 6lb split rings with 6lb test and lost several fish due to rings opening up prematurely. I contacted the manufacturer and they requested that I use a smaller ring diameter and move up to the 8lb size. They were nice enough to send me a free set. Well they held a little better, but needless to say I still lost a few fish! Another thing you have to worry about is that once the ring has released, it weakens it considerably. My guess would be by at least 15%. Conclusion: I can't argue, the rings do exactly what they're designed to do ...save your lures, but at the expense of lost fish. Great concept, but their product needs a little more R&D."
