"Purchased this reel - salt striker 50 - after reading the reviews. My wife and I used this reel with 30lb braid,25lb seaguar fluoro leader with an attached wire leader. -7ft ugly stick- Fishing in central america. We caught 9 cudas the first day out 16 to 27 lbs.This reel was screaming and the drag was flawless.I've caught cudas before but they never jumped this high,we will never forget this trip.Caught lots of snapper and grouper too. Why spend a fortune on a reel when you can get the same performance with the Salt Striker reels.I will buy several more of these reels soon. THANKS AGAIN CABELAS. QUALITY +++++"

"Overall a good reel for the price. Two things I would improve upon. 1.) Offer an extra spool, 2.) The bail does not close easily. It takes quite a lot of force to close and begin the retrieve. I'm sure this will cost me a fish sooner or later."

"I like to fish in the surf for Barred Perch along the California Coast. I have always used other reels. This reel outperformed every other I'd ever used. I let my wife use it, and now I'll have to buy another one. She used to be able to cast about half as far as I could. Now she casts as far as I do. I would recommend the Salt Striker reel to anyone who needs to be able to cast out to reach the breakers. It not only casts far, but it reels smoothly."

"I have been fishing since I was 5. I have always been a spinning reel fisherman over bait-cast. This reel is perfect for the saltwater fishing I do. "Without a doubt, this is the best value in saltwater fishing reels. I have an SS40 and SS30 and caught a 12 lb Bluefish. I set the pole up on the riprap to haul the fish in and the fish had a last burst and dragged my reel and pole accross the rocks into the water. I contained the fish, kept fishing and when I got home cleaned the reel. One year later, this reel still works as if it is brand new."

"For the money, this thing works great. I have had no saltwater related problems. Everything is still working after two years of pretty heavy saltwater use (I wadefish with this and it gets wet).
The thing I don't like is that the line has a tendency to stick on the drag adjustment knob when you first start reeling in (after a cast). It wraps a few times around this drag adjustment knob, then when you go to cast it comes loose and makes a big rats nest in your line. I use braid so this is almost impossible to get straightened out without cutting the line.
Due to this, if I have to depend on the reel for a whole weekend, I definitely need extra line."
