"This fleeces doesnt measure up to the buffalo jackets that we get in the Corps, but if used as a componet of a layering system it will get the job done. Temps below 20 degrees will require an outer shell and additional undergarments; somthing that wicks away moisture. Dont be fooled by the photo of a model standing in the snow with a toy carbine. If you expect to run around with guns, in the snow, and not freeze, then think in terms of a system. Over all, a good addition to layer with."

Use as a combination system - like US military,

"I visited the Sidney NE store while traveling, and was able to try on many jackets and combinations of layering. For a 4 season jacket combination that will work nearly everywhere, combine the great Pac Lite rain parka with the this 300 E.C.W.C.S. polartec fleece Jacket. Both have ventilation zippers, and they layer together nicely. Cold/cool but not raining - wear the fleece with vents as needed. Warm and raining - pac lite parka with vents as needed. Cold and rainy, combine polartec fleece with pac lite rain parka with vents as needed. I tried on other rain jackets, with zip out lining, and with permanent insulated lining. None were as comfortable quick change out system for at least 3 seasons - really 4 seasons. NOTE: The rain parka to get is the MOUNTAIN pac lite jacket - not the classic. There is a difference in venting, and design so be carefull to get the right one. After trying various sizes, I went medium regular on the fleece, large regular on the rain parka - GREAT combo!

"Great jacket. I wear mine all winter. I put something heavier on for outdoor activities, but I just wear this and a T shirt all year. Great for wearing under something heavier too, but this is WARM. You wont be able to wear it inside all day like Ive seen some people do. Great investment, Ive had mine 3 years. You should buy this jacket."

No room in the arm pit area,

"Classy styling, typical Cabela quality, but the arm pit area was way too skimpy---with just a regular cotton shirt on. Really a shame as it had a lot of nice stylish touches.
Everything thing else was good, but it had to be returned as simply not wearable for my husband (who is not overweight)."

"I love this jacket. I wear it casually and will be using it in the woods a great deal too. Also, the collar zips up high enough to keep the cold off of your neck. I wish it weren't quite as expensive though."

"I live 300 yards from the base of the north side of Mont Tremblant Ski area in Northern Quebec, and it gets VERY cold at the top of the 2185ft ski hill at 7:30 am when the chairlift opens. Below -15 degress with wind is more common than unusual.
This garment is well fitted, warm and comfortable! I Could not be more pleased! for the price, you will never do better!"

"Likes - Lightweight, padding in all the right places, drawstrings are great. Really warm.
Dislikes - Sizing is REALLY off. I bought a large and it is made for someone with a size 40 waist. I am no little boy at 36-38 waist. But Cabela's please cut the materials smaller and reduce the price.
The zippers are huge. They will poke into into you if you have only a t-shirt underneath. Wear a light wind breaker over this jacket or wind will blow into you through the zippers."

"The ECWCS performs very well. I would think most people have the expectation that polartec alone may not be enough on real cold days and this is no different....I wear a sweater/thermals under it and planned to at the time of purchase. Excellent price per value ratio. Great three season coat."

"I bought the black jacket a few weeks before a fishing trip to Alabama and the jacket worked out just great. however it is not wind proof but it kept me warm outside of the wind. it also fits nicely and looks great."
