"These are completely useless. They have the same night vision effectiveness as grabbing two drinking glasses held up to your eyes and stick two glow sticks in them. They have the likeness to taking a good pair of binoculars and looking thru them backwards. Total waste of money!"

My 1st Gen. Goggles 2 Cents Worth,February 17, 2009

"Received these from Cabelas in timely fashion. They are very well made, in a word SOLID. The harness has a wide range of adjustments. I was able to set everything up so I could walk around hands free. I have never tried 2nd or 3rd gen. units, so I don't know how much better they would be; however, these did a very respectable job of turning night to day.
Because I had done some research beforehand, I knew that the built in IR illuminator had a limited range (seems like about 30 feet). If you have some moonlight, you will not need to use it.
The single criticism that I have is that the lens has a very shallow depth of focus (it has to be this way in order to gather as much of whatever light there is); the down side to this is that I find myself having to refocus them more than I had expected. This is accomplished by turning the outer rings at the ends of the two eyepieces. In all fairness, it is a minor inconvenience, though.
A model that autofocused like a digital camera would be fantastic!
In closing, I would have to say that I m happy with my purchase and would recommend these to anyone who wants to enjoy stealthy nighttime viewing!"

"I realize that this is a generation 1 unit, but I expected more from it. The only place that I could see clearly after adjusting all recommended parameters was below the horizontal midline. Would not purchase or would spend a little more and get a higher generation."

"COMPARING A GENERATION I TO A GENERATION III (PVS-7B) I WAS INPRESSED WITH THE VISIBILITY ON A NIGHT WITH NO MOON AND NO STAR-LIGHT... WITHIN A 50 METER DISTANCE IN AN OPEN FIELD (20 ACRES) I CAN DISTINGUISH A LINK ON A BOBWIRE FENCE. MY EXPERIENCE IN THE SERVICE USING NIGHTVISION GOGGLES DOES NOT COMPARE TO GEN.I THE COUGAR IS THE ONE THAT IMPRESSED ME THE MOST!! SGT.T (10MD 3-14 REG. INF)."
