Pack frame only,June 30, 2009
By AChessymanfrom Minnesota
"Well made, has worked well on my first use with about 70# lashed on. I would have given it 5 stars but the straps that hold the shelf could have been slightly better done and they have plastic clips. So far they haven't been a problem. If you don't plan to lash anything under the shelf you could go with the other model that has aluminum angle bracing. I seem to need to lash a layer of insulation somewhere during the late fall. It is near zero in the morning sometimes and in the thirties in the afternoon. With insulating layers lashed top and bottom from a distance I must look like I am packing a small coffin some days. I bought this out of the catalog and didn't see it in the store for a direct compairsion with the other two. The removable top hoop works fine. I think this will frame last a long time."

"I use this to carry my climbing treestand and other gear. It does well with this 30# load and I expect it would be fine with much heavier loads. In fact, the day it first arrived I had my wife sit on the backpack's flip-down platform while I walked around. I wouldn't want to hike a mountain like that, but it took the 110# with no problems."

Excellent Pack Frame,January 26, 2009
By GoingWestfrom Inwood, WV
"I originally bought a pack frame for my brother who had been looking for a good pack frame, however when I received the frame, I tried it on. To Cabela's benefit, I liked the way it felt and distributed the weight (70 lbs) so well, that I went and ordered myself one that same evening. I've had on a different pack frame and it did not feel that comfortable with less weight. Nice product!"

heavy made easy ?,January 20, 2009
By daasdad
"I used my pack frame to pack out my sons elk this year. There were four of us so we had a QT each. The hike out was about two miles. The whole time I listened to my 21 year old complain how heavy the elk was and how easy I had it because of my frame. personaly I think I just schooled the boy while walking circles around him. This will be proven to him next year when he packs My elk out with His own Alaskan Guide Frame. (CHRISTMAS). I would like to mention that with my frame I ordered the pack as well. After placing elk in game bag. I put it in the pack and was ready to go while the others spent what seemed like hrs. tying thiers to there packs. I would defanitly reccomend this pack frame to any one planning to pack any game, for any distance."

Pack Frame,November 3, 2008
By ch46gunsfrom Cheyenne, WY
"I used this frame to pack out an elk from some very rugged terrain. It was for the most part a very pleasant experience. The only thing I don't like about this pack frame as with most products that require a good fit is that I am short in stature (under 5'6"). The waist straps tend to slip down past my hips and makes it uncomfortable on the joints. This is not a problem with the function of the frame I only wish that they made them for people like me instead of one size fits all."

Elk Hunt,November 3, 2008
By Siggfrom Kansas Flatlander hunting 9,000 feet in Colorado
"I bought this just prior to going Elk Hunting. We were succesful on a cow permit & used this to pack her out. It was pretty even ground but about 3/4 mile walk. I had no complaints. The pack fit well, did not slide around & had plenty of adjuments to get the weight to the best position to carry the weight. I played with the adjustments a little & could easily change the weight distribution. Which would be good if your hips got tired & needed a little rest on much longer pack. One of my hunting pals had an old model of the same pack & the new changes were apparent. He always liked his old one but has trouble keeping the weight on his hips (he is a skinny with no hips kind of guy) This pack has a better hip belt & adjustment, I think this one would it have worked better for him. I had no problems & would recommend it based on my experience. I have not so great back ( 3 buldging discs) but it seemed to work very well, no complaints."

"The IJ-515439 AGMFrame has been put together very well.. Added afew alterations: * Added thicker rubber pads to bottom of frame which make contact with ground when frame is removed from back.. *Added elastis bands to straps to keep loose ends from flopping around(Load lifters and Hip belt) Other than that the frame is well constructed.."

Alaska Guide Frame,October 8, 2007

"I bought this frame to adapt it so I could carry a pack on it and a kayak on a yoke above it on the top of the frame. Works like a champ. This frame is good for about 400 lbs if you are strong enough to carry it."

Pounds on the back,November 22, 2006
By deepwaterfrom Oregon native, fish for trout, salmon, steelhead
"I purchased the Cabela's Alaskan Guide Model Frame to pack heavy loads in and out of hunting areas with the least wear and tear on my body. I knew I could use pack frames lighter by 2 lbs. or more but all the adjustable features of the Cabela's frame interested me. Well two years later after packing two comfortable camps in six miles on my back and back out again I knew I had made the right choicewith the Cabela's Frame. Some quarters of elk have found their way to the road on my back also. After loaning it to a friend of mine he said he had packed a elk out with it and was impressed. He packed out a elk as two friends skinned and quartered. He told me he could not have done it without my pack frame. My Cabela's Alaskan Guide Model Frame fits like a old shoe with the adjustments available."

"The Alaska Guide Model Frame is a necessity for any hunter. Shoulder and waist padding makes this frame very comfortable to carry your gear in but also to carry your kill out on a successful hunt. Frame handled two field dressed Sitka blacktail deer easily 3 miles away from camp."
