"The bottom part works pretty well, but the upper part is worthless. I just purchased some velcro to secure the top."

Keep the top throw away the bottom,November 30, 2006
By rwoodsfrom Ky., Elkhunter, Alaska pack trip for sheep
"My buddies and me have used these for several years. The older top pieces used the pin through the top of a standard pack frame hole. They work great. I have seen some with open top that must be bent over to keep sling in place. I thought the new "bolt on type" might be a good idea till I read the comment on one size fits all, "NOT". Solution: Just drill a hole and use a pin. I use a bagless (homemade meat bags)frame for meat hauling and a frame with bag for back pack trips. One sling hanger each.
The bottom piece is way more trouble than it is worth. I would like the pieces to be sold separate. The bottom unbalances your pack with heavy loads and interfers with the pack belt straps. It is impossible to strap on or loose the gun butt without a buddy to do it for you. Solution: just put your arm through the sling. Throw away the bottom piece."

backpack rifle hanger,November 25, 2006
By viola60from Colorado
"It was easy to attach to my frame. I used it on a backpack hike of seven miles, it held my rifle just fine. It is difficult to get the rifle off the top hook if your pack is still on your back."
"The Great Alaskan wilderness is known for having the most rugged terrain in the world. The Kenai Mountain of Alaska definitely fit this bill! I found the Cabelas Backpack rifle hanger to be instrumental in allowing me the ability to successfully navigate the mountains of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge on a recent Caribou hunt! The Cabelas Rifle hanger allowed me to hike hands free through the wilderness, which is great advantage when youre crawling through alders that tower above your head! The rifle hanger held my rifle secure, safe, and without a doubt was my best investment of this hunting season! Once again, Cabelas provided a high quality product at a very fair price! Oh by the way, after seeing how well my Cabelas rifle Hanger performed all my hunting partner want one too!"

Back Pack Rifle Hanger,November 21, 2006
By craigersfrom I Live in Southern California and hunt mostly moun
"As far as I'm concerend this ranks right up there with sliced bread. This hanger works great I have used it in the mountains her in CA hunting for the last 15 years. Now my son is old enough to hunt with me so I got him one for his pack. It's really nice to have a hanger that holds your rifle tight without fear of it falling off or bouncing around or getting dropped. At the same time it comes off the hanger in a snap if you need it. Just release the strap at the bottom and lift and it's in your hands."

Backpack Rifle Hanger,November 21, 2006
By kris201from Northeastern California
"I purchased the Backpack Rifle Hanger prior to my 2006 backpack hunt in Idaho. The hanger was easy to install on the pack and securely held my rifle in place as I packed into camp. In fact once you secure your rifle, you cannot take it off without first removing your pack. All in all it functioned very well."

Cabela's Backpack Rifle Hanger,November 20, 2006

"The rifle hanger is a fantastic concept, unfortunately the one I received would not clamp tightly to the pack frame as a result of a "built in" nut that would not hold and rotated freely...not allowing hte screw to tighten."
