Dwight Schuh Mega pack is MASSIVE,May 4, 2009
By Peteca1234from Northern California
"Have not used this in the field yet.
Overall quality is excellent.
Love the size but am concerned I may over pack due to cavernous large pack. Fanny pack seems adequate for day pack use. The built in light is only on the fanny pack but will proove useful.
The mesh bag doesn't reall "fit" anywhere but if the fanny pack were removed and the mesh bag put in its place than OK
Bought this pack based on price and ability to remove packs to use seperatly as day packs as well as included hydration bladder.
Will use this for deer hunting in remote wilderness area."

Hunting Pack 3500 cu in,March 10, 2009
By Huntereyfrom San Dimas.Ca
"When I first got this pack I Immediately new it was to small for my needs, but i put it on any way and notice how well it felt on my back its flexibility makes it feel like an internal frame pack and steel offer the ability to hook and attach anything on its frame. It will fit close to the body giving you better mobility, perfect for trekking up hills and over logs and boulder, going though brush and under branches, something that’s difficult to do w/ a full size pack. A good pack for a short to medium stay on a bow or rifle hunting trip. Making the 3500 cu in capacity is adequate for one to three days camping trip in the back country. (Just pack Light) The pack is light, quiet thanks to the the fleece material, comfortable, and a sturdy frame.
The shoulder and waste belts are on thin side they could be a little beefier, the zippers have small teeth so you’ll have to break them in. All and all is not a bad pack for the money and would consider buying one, But I return it and bout the big 5600 cu in one which is just what I needed for extended stay trips.
The mega pack has the same type of frame (but larger) and it offers more external pockets, thicker belt and more cushion on the shoulders for a very comfortable fit. These backpacks are tough and very well made."

14 years,January 6, 2009
By Fruchfrom Boston, MA
"I love this pack. I have owned mine for going on 14 years and have had little if any problem with it. Fits well. Carries well. Back country elk trips to weekend whitetails, no problem.
The zippers can be a bit loud, but nothing that some black hockey tape around the tabs can't fix. I am lucky to own the pack that, at the time, was made out of fleece.
Great pack."

Dwight Schuh Hunting Pack,December 19, 2008
By Adirondackmanfrom Upstate, NY
"The pack is pretty comfortable but I found the waist buckle not very secure and prone to release by itself when under load. I am going replace the buckle with a metal side-release buckle. Also a couple of zipper pulls broke off. I like the frame and the webbing keeps your back from sweating. Since I have made only one trip with the pack I will review it again in the near future. Right now I will give it only 3 stars because I think the buckles and zipper pulls should have been better quality. The price is very reasonable but I would have been happy paying a bit more for better quality components. The features II like most are the light weight of the pack and the comfort of its frame."

whoops! - strap fell off first thing,October 10, 2008
By Not4Pupsfrom Arizona
"Took my new pack out of the box last evening , put it on and began to tighten the sternum strap across my chest when the stiching failed and the strap came completely off the pack. Terrible sewing and poor quality control I must conclude (certainly not do to massive flexing of chest muscles in my case). Called Cabelas customer service to find out what to do and they paid my return shipping and sent a replacement. With such good service, I decided to try the replacement hoping for a better result. So, have yet to know fully about the pack, but sure like the way the customer service lady treated me."

Dwight Schuh Hunting Pack,September 30, 2008
By Raptar
"This pack proved to be well made and versitle. It has several useful features. It was very comfortable during a recent Elk hunt in Colorado. My only regret is that the main pack does not have more smaller pockets to segregate gear. Also you cannot access the "lid pocket" without opening the pack."

Not a serious pack,September 19, 2008
By muley69
"I purchased this pack for a 7 day back country elk hunt. I live in Montana and I am very familiar with back country hunting. After being in the interior for 5 days the waist strap buckle broke, leaving me withover 5 miles of rough terian to navigate with the weight of the pack squarely on my back and shoulders. I was extremely unhappy. The pack frame is made of cheap plastic and would not be sufficent for the rigors of packing several loads of elk meat. It also has no bottom shelf. The zippers were difficult at best to operate as they were constantly getting stuck. The straps used for lashing were too short and the clips keep popping off. The removalable day pack top was pathetic at best, and very uncomfortable. If you are just hunting the back 40 for deer then this pack may work, but if you are into serious back country camping and hunting, this pack will not get the job done for you. I had to leave the hunt two days early because of this pack, i am very dissapointed. Cheap and gimmicky."

Hunting Pack,June 10, 2008
By weld387from Hogansville, GA
"First of all the picture of the Hunting Pack really does not do it justice. The choice was hard for me because I also wanted something that would double has a regular backpack too. I thought this would be to small. To my surprise and delight when the pack came, those worries were put to rest. There is enough room for a five day solo hunting/camping trip. I was pleased with the added extras. A little light in the bottom Fannie bag. It also has a zipper compartment to hold those little loose things that are hard to find. Has for the water blatter. It also seems to be of good quality. There's a nice pocket for the two liter unit which is set up and tied to the left shoulder strap of the main backpack. The pack is well thought out and not to big. I hunt in the SouthEastern part of this great country. There are tons of Briars and thickets I need to navagate to get to the many hunting spots I go too. Thats why I choose the hunting back instead of the Mega pack. The frame adjust to fit your body. I am average height and weigh about 170lbs. The unit is strong and also like the flex on the frame. There are many spots your can tie bungee or small thin nylon rope too. Securing objects like my tent and sleeping bag will not be an issue. I will try to figure a way to have my hunting rifle attached to the right side of the pack. This should not be to hard to figure out. Mr. Schuh has a real winner here. I am greatful that we have an avid hunter making up the things that will make our hunting trips more of a pleasure then they already are. Hope this helps you out in making your choice. Just know that when I freight out a deer next season it won't be as hard to do. Good luck folks..."

I bought this mainly because it was on sale, but I have nothing to complain about thats for sure."

way too small,May 5, 2008
By 1629from Saegertown PA
"I wear a size 40 jean and 2xl shirts or a size 52 jacket and I had to adjust the straps all the way just to put on over a t-shirt. there was no way that I could put this pack on over my hunting coat. The rest of the quality appeared good. This might fit comfortably if you weighed less than 180."

Best Hunting Pack on the Market,February 12, 2008
By Hawks50from Washington State
"The Dwight Schuh hunting pack is the best pack I have ever used for big game. I used it this past year for a high hunt for bear and we killed two bear and used the pack to haul out the meat. The versatility of the pack to use the back pack or day hike pack made it perfect for a big game hunt in the high country. Without this type of pack we would not have been able to carry our gear for the hunt using the day pack and still have the ability to carry out close to 220 lbs. of meat on two of these packs. This buy is a no-brainer if you are a serious hunter."

Good pack,November 28, 2007
By Burkeyfrom Malaga, WA
"Can fit a lot in the pack. Fits nice and snug with the full frame. Like the waist and chest straps to keep pack snug in the mountains. Adjustable for different body heights. Durable sturdy frame. Haven't had the chance to pack an animal out yet but definitely well worth the money."

This pack brings in the boned out hogs.,November 21, 2007
By HumboldtHunterfrom Humboldt County, CA
"This year my pack was a charm with the big 3 and 4 pointers i killed were down in big holes but with this pack i hauled them right up. Without this pack and with my old pack i could only pack up half at a time, but the capacity is incredible in this pack. I am also the buck slayer of humboldt. So trust me and if you kill the hogs and not the babies purchase this fo your own good."

Mega Good,October 30, 2007
By timawardfrom Manassas, VA
"This pack rules from upon the highest places. It is big and light. I haven't had it in out in the rain so I can't comment on its "waterproofness"; but, it is durable enough to handle the extremely rough treatment that I gave it fighting my way through the tangled laurel thickets on Clinch Mountain, VA (while scouting for deer and black bears). It came through that ordeal unscathed and if it can handle that it can handle anything. The zippers are a bit hard to use; however, my more experienced friend pointed out that when I get the zippers broken in they should work fine. I would buy this pack again; it is great."

impressed,October 23, 2007
By SAinIdaho
"I received my Dwight Schuh hunting pack just days before my 4 day deer hunt in the back country. I was immpressed to say the least. The versatility of the pack was great. I really like being able to adjust the height and location of the day pack and shoulder straps. There is enough room inside the pack to throw in the kitchen sink if needed, even after putting in all my supplies for four days. I also like the flexible frame. It is flexible enough to move with you as you climb plus it is strong enough to use bungy cords to attatch large items on the outside of the pack. I would recomend this pack to my friends without hesitation."

the best pack made,October 9, 2007
By firerescuefrom central wisconsin
"i recently got back from a elk hunting trip in montana and the mega pack was the best pack I have ever had. The frame was light weight and yet strong enough to carry all my gear and even a couple elk quarters. I also loved the fact that the day pack came off the frame and it had plenty of storage even with the water bag inside. Everything was very comfortable to wear and I would tell anybody to have one of these packs. If you are serious about the outdoors and hunting or even just back packing this is the pack that you are going to want to have."
