Chef's Choice Game Shears,

By comchris801

"I have always cleaned birds using a pocket knife but had wanted to try shears. I have been very happy with their performance thus far. They are very sharp and are easy to clean. Cleaning a mess of quail was very easy."

They broke,
January 16, 2008
By indoorjohn
|
"The Chef's Choice game shears showed up and I was excited. They were super heavy duty looking and feeling. Nice shiny stainless steel and a very sharp edge to cut with. First time out on a hunt we got down several Pheasant out in Eastern Oregon. When it came time to clean our bounty, I went for my shiny new shears. First leg, I squeezed and heard something besides the leg snap. The spring that helps push the shears open had come out of the hole it was meant to be in and when I squeezed it did not line back up with the hole and I squished the spring so bad it is not going to be repairable. Now, having to open the shears without the assist of the spring, the shears are hard to use so I don't. Tried to remove the spring from the other side and it won't come out. These shears are now a shelf item in the ready room.
John"

"Spring bends if it falls out of its hole then shears don't work. Also, over time the shears will not lock shut and hold. Look for a better product."

Scrap Metal,
December 2, 2007
By saugeyeman
from Lenora, KS

"I thought these were supposed to be quality game shears. I was highly disappointed in the performance of this tool. It works for breaking wing and leg bones alright but it will not cut through the feathers and skin. Also, when operating these shears they will fall apart if opened all the way which they do all the time unless they are locked together with the latch. The price they receive for these shears is entirely too high when a $10 pair will do the same thing."

By GP5GMN

"Save your money as the Shears have a major defect in the spring. Although they look very durable the performance of the shears was poor. I bought them specifically for cleaning Pheasent but they malfunctioned after clipping dove wings. I'm returning both pair for a refund."

An easier way to clean fowl,
November 13, 2006
By 51Eagle
from Batavia, IL
|
"I have used several brands of game shears and they have all come up short on performance until now. These shears are much sturdier and designed to be easier to manuver than others. They have a sharp cutting edge that makes it easy to trim unwanted cartilige and fat as well as a notch to hold bones in place while cutting thru joints and small bones. The longer handles are comfortable and give good leverage for cutting those bigger bones. When it is time to clean up, the stainless steel washes up easily, the design allows for the shears to easily come apart at the folcrum for a more thorough cleaning, no hidden areas to collect bacteria. I found these shears well worth the few extra dollars I spent to purchase them."
