Good Product and Very Handy,August 27, 2009
By Dolph92from Minneapolis Mn
"Pros: find your buddies, GPS maps uploaded to the GPS, Connect to Laptop for a larger follow me map,
Cons: Limited battery life, confusing at time screen interaction.
I got a set of these for one perpose only and that was to be able to find my Dad when he was on Mille Lacs or when he gets lost in the woods. They work great I absolutely love them. Cell phones work but not everywhere and being able to beam your exact location for your buddies to come help drag a big deer is great. No more of those lame "I couldnt find you excuses". The range is OK in the woods nothing spectacular but in the open of a lake you can get 2 miles out of them. The buttons are sometimes confusing and it does take some time to understand all the functions but a few minutes with the owners manual goes a LONG LONG ways with these."

Good radio/gps but.....,January 7, 2009
By AZhunt
"Six of us hut Arizona, Utah, Colorado for Elk and Mule deer. We all have either the 120 or 530 and they are very helpfull and dependable. The only problem is the belt clip. Almost every one of us has had to track down a lost radio in the mountains or desert after it released from the clip. The clip is completely unreliable so tie the radio to your body. Garmin come up with a better carry option."

Batterie Sucker,December 17, 2008
By JoshuaNichfrom Massachusetts
"Gps works great havent had an problems. It does go through batteries quite a bit. And the walkies dont work as good as they say. I live and hunt in Massachusetts and im lucky if i can talk to someone past 1/4 of a mile. Other than that you cant go wrong with it. The satellite signal on garmins are what made it famous and to have it guide you to right under your stand in pitch dark and over cast is something to be proud of."

Not your typical Garmin Product,September 30, 2008
By Bianchikidfrom PA/CO
"Several in our hunting party bought these for our annual elk hunt. Garmin, IMHO, makes the best GPS product out there, but that doesnt include this unit. The peer to peer function is a great idea, but the radio has very poor range and the GPS is just so-so on this unit. One of our units after two days use started using a set of batteries about every 5-10 minutes and another unit would shut off on it's own. That was a 50% failure rate in 3 days use. Not the type of thing you need in the high country where you are depending on your equipment. Confidence has been lost in these units not only by those of us who used them, but by our entire group. We've all gone back to using the separate radio and GPS units. Garmin repaired the failed units, but none of us will use these RINOs again. Perhaps the more expensive ones work better?"

RHINO 120 AND 110,July 28, 2008
By Juniortoolsfrom NEW MEXICO
"ON OUR FIRST TRIP BOTH OF OUR RHINO RADIOS HAD A PROBLEM. THE EMBOSSED ATTACH POINT FOR A BELT CLIP POPPED OUT. HERE'S THE REAL BAD NEWS, AFTER 60DAYS WARRANTY IS DIFFERERRED TO MANUFACTURE, AND WAIT TIME FOR THIER CUSTOMER SERVICE IS 30 MINUTES. I'VE TRIED THREE DIFFERENT TIMES AND THAT'S THE STANDARD. OTHERWISE THEY SEEM TO WORK WELL."

Good Idea, has bugs,January 20, 2008
By dubd
"I bought two 2 (two) of these units. Thought the idea was a good one (GPS & radio in one w/ location feature). A few things though, one unit always shuts off without warning for no reason. Secondly, the 120's compared to other units take a long time to get initial sattelite lock for tracking and they can loose the signal to easy. Third, the FRS range is poor, would be nice to be able to use GMRS freq. and still send coordinates to other members with rhinos. Realistically for all serious outdoorsman I would opt for a good GPS unit with good vis. screen and a good topography program. Then just get a good radio, if your buddies have a gps they can tell you their location. Bottom line: Im in over $600 with these units and some software for them and im finding myself shopping for a new GPS unit that i can have a good topo program and a daylight visible colored screen thats easy to read, cuz lets face it, most places we want to go dont have roads so you need to have topo lines to study the terrain and know how to negotiate cliffs and hills. I will say that Garmin is a great company, and they are more than happy to keep you as a customer. Good luck"

Garmin 120,January 19, 2008
By FBergfrom Del Rio, Texas
"I like this product because of the features. The biggest drawback is the 2 way communication...a little less on the distance than I thought it would be but for me it is still sufficient. Some of the other reviews cast a black shadow on power usage. Simply put, if you are not using the GPS, turn it off to prolong battery life. I definately like the option of being able to send a location to another Garmin user!"

This combination unit is great,January 9, 2008
By Halley50from Delaware
"For communicating and keeping track of your hunting buddies, this unit is a fantastic combination of 2 technologies. When hunt, I don't use the radio feature a lot, but it has always worked fine when I needed to. The GPS works fine, just as well as any other GPS. But, the added capability of being able to see on screen where each of your buddies is located is fantastic!
In the summer, I take my grandson in the woods for some scouting or fishing and give him one unit. Truth be told, I don't think I have ever lost sight of him for more than a moment, but it is comforting to know that if I ever did loose sight of him, I could look at my 120 and find my way to him easily! I'll be taking hime to Disneyland and you can bet I'll be bringing these units."

Garmin Rino in Cold Weather,January 7, 2008
By Rustytrooperfrom Bloomfield, New York
"My son and I used our rino's during the past deer season, the weather was cold and battery power faded quickly. We tried to keep our units inside our hunting coats but that blocked the satelite reception which made our units beep and by shutting off the GPS part of the unit we were unable to use the locator. However the Unit as a whole preformed well and the peer to peer feature is Great."

Save your reciept!,December 7, 2007
By EdwardWfrom Massachusetts
"I have been hunting with a Garmin Etrex GPS and Motorola talkabout radio since they were first available. I will not enter the woods without them.
I purchased the rino 120 with a couple of hunting buddies. We purchased these mainly for the peer-to-peer and to combine two units that we normally carry into one. After the first use, I knew that I had made a mistake. The GPS portion has about 1/2 of the reception of the Etrex. Using this unit with a canopy is an exercise in futility.
I was even further disappointed with the radio. I could not carry a conversation with a buddy that was less than 300yds away, in typical NE terrain.
I am very disappointed with Garmin. They produce some outstanding products and I expected much more than this. I have returned to my Etrex and Talkabout."

By JustAnotherFishermanfrom Puyallup, WA
"I have two of these, and plan on getting two more. Hunting you know where your partner(s) are at all time, not to mention being able to talk to them. As for my other hobbies such as fishing the mapping program allows me to return to my "secret" spot. You can not go wrong with the Rino seires."

Like the GPS - radio is just OK,November 30, 2007
By HowardInNH
"I bought a pair of these a short while ago to use geocaching. The GPS does a respectable job of handling deep tree cover and still keeping its bearings. The radio has decent audio quality but the range is less than you might expect from an FRS. I do hold a GMRS license and use the GMRS channels also. The range is far below what I would expect from a radio rated at 1 watt. I don't have testing equipment but I suspect that the output is not much better than in FRS mode. Oh well. We usually carry commercial grade radios besides the GPS so it's no biggie. And I can attest to the water-resistant properties of the 120. On a recent weekend the unit I was carrying fell into an elbow-deep brook and recovered with nary a problem. I wouldn't do that on purpose, but it survived this one."

My pet rino 120,November 15, 2007
By DJHessfrom Lancaster, PA
"This gps is awsome. I got a rino 110 on line from a private owner. It was brand new too but when it came it didn't even turn on. He did take it back. So I got this one when my church group went to cabelas . Its got lots of good features but sometimes its hard to get satellite reception depending on the time of day. I found best reception is in the afternoon, I walked in the woods and got reception all the way and on the way back. Its nice to have a radio and gps all in one. The fact that you can send texts messages is neat and the location transmission are great ideas."

A good radio,December 7, 2006
By TigerKSEfrom Harford Cty, Maryland
"I use the radio with a motorola headset, and it works fantastic. The problem is with the GPS, and I guess it's a problem with all GPS's.... in that when in the woods before Fall, reception is poor at best. As all the whitetail hunting I do is in woods, its uses as a GPS are limited. It is nice to be able to see where your buddies are though...."
