MSR Pocket Rocket stove,October 12, 2009
By stetifrom chadron, ne
"I purchased the Pocket Rocket stove to use on a back pack elk hunt in Colorado. I was amazed at how small it was and wondered if it would do the job for a goup of 3. I soon found out that this is an awesome little stove. It will boil nearly 2 quarts of water in less than 3 minutes. It packs so small, you don't even know it is there. We used it for 7 days and only burned 1 8oz. canister of fuel. I would highly recommend this stove to anyone who enjoys the outdoors."

Sweet Stove,January 12, 2009
By Joshua524from Mausolf, Virginia
"This is a great all around stove. It boils water very fast, (usually arount 2.5-3 minutes) and also has a nice simmer even in the wind. I starts easy except in the cold. A quick fix to this problem is to put it in your sleeping bag with you at night and then it starts no problem. It is compact and comes in a plastic protective case. The downfalls are that on rocky terrain its hard to find a somewhat level spot to set it. Otherwise it's a great stove, and truly sounds like a rocket."

great stove,October 4, 2008
By cjcoldfrom Kansas City
"This is the smallest, handiest, ultralight backpack stove I have ever used. Regarding its use in high wind conditions, I have found that proper placement behind a wind break plus a piece of tin foil wrapped half way around the pot and stove (not the fuel bottle), can greatly increase it's function in high wind without overheating the bottle. While MSR may not specifically approve this tactic, I have not experienced a heated fuel bottle even in warm weather camping. This little trick works well for all camping stoves and can greatly reduce heating times and fuel use. Just remember not to cover any part of the fuel bottle and no more than 2/3ds of the stove and cooking pot."

Adequate Stove in Calm Conditions,August 7, 2008
By DakotaBackpackerfrom Rapid City, SD
"I bought the MSR PocketRocket about four years ago, and have taken it backpacking into the Rocky Mountains two different times. It is extremely lightweight, and easy to light/control. The reason I can only give it three stars, though, is its lack of performance in breezy/windy conditions. I don't even take it backpacking anymore for that reason (because the wind is almost always blowing in the mountains). Some of the reviewers have said that this stove has worked well for them in windy conditions, but I've had the exact opposite experience. About a year ago I decided to test this stove in the backyard in calm, and windy, conditions. With absolutely no wind blowing at all it boiled a quart of water in four minutes on the dot. Later that afternoon, when the wind picked up to 15-20 mph, it took ten minutes to boil a quart of water. Not being able to use a windscreen with this stove is a definite drawback. If you camp in areas with little wind this will be a great stove for you."

Pocket Rocket rocks!,January 1, 2008
By alan1206from Houston, TX
"The pocket rocket is easy to use and ignite, and is light enough to carry on long backpacking or hunting trips. Many times during long stalks, I have used the pocket rocket to make a hot cup of coffee or soup in the field. Definitely worth the money. Small and powerful!"

"I love this stove. It packs down very small, lights easy, and the flame is top notch. I've used it on canadian shore lunches to start a larger wood fire. It's so easy to throw into a pack or tackle box. Works great in windy conditions and has great ballance. I've had mine 3 years with no complaints..."

The pocket rocket packs a punch,November 20, 2006
By Huntinghorsemanfrom Colorado
"I recently used my MSR Pocket Rocket in very adverse conditions. It was incredibly windy (25-35 mph) and very cold. This beauty not only was easy to fire up, but it heated the water quickly despite the windy conditions. It is very compact and and easy to carry. The only down side to this product is not having an electronic fire start, otherwise, this compact stove is worth every penny."
