"I did not appreciate after purchasing a Garmin GPS and interface cable, to have to purchase a serial port to USB cable for 34.99. Thats alot of cable and money for a simple task. Garmin needs to step up to the real world with its cable technology."

"I've used this cable for several years when dowloading tracks and waypoints from my eTrex to Map Source on my desktop computer. It works fine if you have a serial port - But - many computers don't come with serial connections. To work around this you have to get a "Serial to USB" cable . Tie the Garmin cable to the Serial to USB cable and plug it into a powered USB connection. Let Map Source find your GPS and you are in business.

I called Garmin to inquire why they had not gone to a USB cable and was told that the NEMA standard was serial. So, until Garmin decides to produce a USB cable you and I are stuck working with a serial connection."
