Good construction but...,
September 25, 2009

"I have a small row boat so I needed something to hold my pole while I trolled to a new location of the lake. I wanted something to hold the pole and affordable. Just by looking at the design, I knew from the start that this holder will not stay in place but I wanted something to secure my pole for me. What I mean is, because of the long thread and winged nut, the holder spins around and the pole will not stay in the direction you want it to. You'll have to be creative and use washers or a rubber spacer to get it from not swinging around. It's has to be be tighter in order for it not to swing backward. Would I leave my pole in it while I troll without securing it better to the boat? NO. What I use it for is to secure my pole by placing my pole on the floor of the boat and then put the rod between the fingers of the holder. This works for me as I troll slowly. I don't need it expanding 6-7 feet from the side of my boat. I just need the pole secured enough so the 30 inch Pike doesn't take my rod for a waterskiing trip. So if you're looking for something that is secure and more stable in holding a pole out from the boat, I would look elsewhere or think of a creative way to keep it from swinging around. For the price, it's exactly what I needed and expected. The construction is tough durable metal too so no worries on it bending. I think my boat will bend before this thing ever does? I do recommend it if you are not a picky fisherman."

Functional,
July 14, 2009
By kiln

"Sturdy and easy to remove for boat storage and transportation. Compatible with both spinning rod combos and trolling combos -- that makes them useful for a variety of applications, deadsticking, slip-bobbers, and trolling. Do not use the right thread rod holders on the port side if you plan to troll. Cabela's should carry the left-thread Driftmasters -- it would be easier to rig both sides of the boat with one purchase."

Lil Duo work great,
August 20, 2007
By Whitebasswillie

"The 'Lil Duo is the best rod holder you will ever have to buy. I use it for lots of fishing. These work great for trolling in the afternoon and drifting in the morning.
My only complaint is why Cabela's doesn't carry the left threaded versions of these so had to go elsewhere to purchase them for the starboard side of the boat.
I have to agree with another comment that the hardest part to mounting these is to remove them from the packaging."

NOT for trolling,
August 17, 2007
By Art03817
from Upstate eastern NH
|
"The Little Pro round base is inadequate for trolling with LIGHT rods. The screw spacing needs to be much larger, probably 3 or 4 screws on a 6" diameter circle. The current spacing screws pull out and bolts need a LARGE reinforcing plate under the mounting location.
Base and Holders returned.
Salmon trolling in NH needs strong rod holders!"

Versatile and reliable,

By CrappieHunter

"I've been using Driftmaster rod holders and bases for several years and have never had a problem. The bases are very versatile and can be placed anywhere on the boat. There is a style and angle of holder for just about any fishing technique. I've used them for trolling for stripers to spider rigging for crappie."

Li'l Duo Rod Holder,
June 18, 2007
By Robin4854
from Sunset Harbor, Lockwoods Folly River, North Caroli
|
"The Li'l Duo rod holder is exactly what I was looking for. I like to slow troll for flounder using the 0 degree angle and anchor for bottom fishing using the 30 degree angle. This rod holder is perfect for both and is more heavy duty than I expected it to be. In my opinion, this is the perfect all-round rod holder."

"Rod holders are of excellent quality, the only complaint would be you need to carry a pair of pliers to tighten down to the bases if you plan on doing some trolling with them. Otherwise hand tight is not enough and they will spin."
