OK pest gun,July 14, 2009
By dehrkefrom Lake Almanor CA
"The sights were way off when I got the gun. It was shooting three inches high and three inches to the right when I sighted it in. The problem was easily corrected with the adjustments on the back sight. The trigger is very stiff and NOT adjustable which makes squeezing off an accurate shot at any distance next to impossible without bracing the gun on something. A stiff trigger may be safer but they should make a model with a lighter trigger for experienced shooters."

Benjamin Air Rifle,July 8, 2009
By ChuckMcLfrom San Antonio TX
"I'd go with the 22 cal. I've owned a model 312 Ben since the late 1950's and I've had the seals replaced once. Drives tacks at 50-70 feet. Killed more pests than I can remember. I'm keeping mine, getting the new one for the grandson though."

very accurate,March 28, 2009
By sniperpro
"This is probably the most accurate air rifle out there for the price. I got the 22 cal for Christmas last year. I immediately took it out for a test and after getting the scope dialed in. I was able to shoot three shot 1 in. groups at 30yds stepped off. That was with some daisy pointed pellets I picked up at a local store. I was pretty impressed by that because I was only using a little 4x20 scope. Next time I was in Cabela's I picked up a 2x7 bsa air gun scope and a can of RWS flat nose pellets. After sitting in the scope I was able to get 1/2 in 5 shot groups at 20yds. One day me and my friend where hunting ground squirrels we were on a little hill waiting for some squirrels to pop up. When one popped up on the other hill it was my friends turn to shoot so I ranged it. The range finder said 60yds so we did the adjustments for it and he settles in for the shot. I wasn’t expecting for him to hit it but all be danged if he didn’t put the pellet right behind the shoulder of that little squirrel I couldn’t believe it. so if this gun with the right kind of ammo can take a squirrel at 60yds what are you what for to buy it? I would definitely get this gun."

The best plinkers,February 9, 2009
By PeterHfrom Hudson Valley, NY
"I own a Benjamin 397. I have used a Benjamin 392. 25 years ago I had a similar Benjamin 347. Very few rifles shoot this well. Very few rifles last this long. My 347 belongs to someone else. It has a good 25,000 shots on it. Never broke. Still shoots well. Wish I never sold it. A few years ago I got my 397, which is just as good."

Not Like The Old Ones,January 6, 2009
By spynedokfrom WILLOWS, CA
"While this air rifle is decent in quality, it does not compare to those from previous years. Materials are cheaper for certain. The stock on ours is already cracked despite only two weeks of use. I would rather have payed more for a higher quality product. Somewhat disappointed."

Nice rifle,except for Cheaper wood & Trigger,December 3, 2008
By Outhunting2from Luray Va.
"Benjamin air rifles are very nice and accurate. However the newer ones are cheaply made compared to the ones made pre 1999. They no longer use walnut wood instead they use birch. The newer trigger mechanism has a heavier trigger pull, and are also made of cheaper alloy metal instead of steal. The newer ones I give 4 stars. The ones made before 1999 I give a perfect 5 stars.I hope this helps. From: Outhunting2 in the Shenandoah valley."

Get the .22, not the .177,October 12, 2008
By bzerkrfrom Northern Minnesota
"I bought this rifle because the one I had as a kid was a hard-hitting/accurate critter killing machine. The latest version is a very well manufactured American made rifle with a nice wooden stock and no plastic. I first purchased the .177 caliber version with iron sights and after about a hundred shots with three different manufacturer's pellets and countless adjustments of the sight, I could never hit the same spot twice. The pellets would randomly hit right or left of what I was aiming at, even though I was shooting about 50 feet away using a shooting bench. At 30 feet I started to hit a few times but I needed to get execution style close to hit anything consistantly. For some reason I ordered a .22 caliber version of the rifle to see if it was my shooting causing the problem, and boy what a difference. Right out of the box with no sight adjustments I could hit pop cans at 75+ feet every shot ! ! ! I've since shot a few hundred .22 pellets with no loss of accuracy, no sight adjustment, and have brought quite a bit of carnage and mayhem to the critter world that once was my yard. I returned the original .177 to Cabela's for a replacement. Right out of the box the second .177 rifle hits pop cans at 50 feet every shot from a shooting bench but is only good at hitting 2 liter bottle size targets intermittently at 75 feet. I gave the .177 to my brother who is perfectly happy shooting at 50 ft or closer, or at larger targets. If that would make you happy, buy the .177. If you want a more accurate rifle at longer distances, consider buying the.22 caliber. };>{>"

Benjamin Air Rifle .22 cal,May 24, 2008
By Bladehand228from Canon City Co
"Really the best pump air rifle on the market i think, Its not really suited for young kids as it does pump hard, but it shoots hard and accurate with a scope i shoot 1/4 inch groups at 40-50 ft and have shot a lot of pests with it.
I believe it will last me a lifetime"

Benjamin Model 397,May 19, 2008
By Longfootfrom Maine
"This handy little rifle is nice to have in the gun safe. I use it for informal target shooting and taking care of pests and small game. My Benjamin is chambered in .177, and it has enough penetration and knockdown force to effectively take down squirrel/crow-sized game out to thirty yards. Getting that close to crows can be quite hard, though. Anyway, back to the rifle. It groups well, and can be used with a good degree of precision with the sights properly adjusted. The rifle performs (accuracy-wise) well with basically any pellet that I have used, except the really heavy stuff like the Beeman Silver Ace, where the groups opened up a bit. However, the heavier pellets would probably deliver more energy on impact. I think the ideal hunting pellet weight for this gun is in the 8-10gr range. If you experience inaccuracy or inconsistent velocity, it would probably be the air seal. The seal might be bad, or the mechanism might need some silicone lubricant, which is safe for rubber and plastic parts--I am not sure if the internals of the Benjamin contain any plastic, but silicone should be safe to use whatever materials are being used. I give this rifle a 4 out of 5 because at first it gave me compression troubles, and the sights were not the most pleasant to deal with. Now that I have these issues sorted out, it is an effective tool for taking care of small varmints around the property!"

Good gun,March 23, 2008
By Vennie
"This is a very accurate, dependable air rifle, it is pretty easy to hit a pop can at 40 yds with open sights, i have had mine for 4-5 years, and it still is a very good gun, the only bad thing is it is hard to cock if you put the full amount of pumps in it, I am looking to get another air rifle, but im going to get a break open, because they have more power, and are easier to cock, another bad thing about this gun is that you have to get special scope mounts for it if you want a scope, witch are $20 for the mounts alone, really no need for a scope thoug if you are inside 40yds . For a younger kid, i would probly not get this gun, due to the effert needed to pump it, but overall a great gun if you can handle the pumping it still shoots as good as it did 5yrs ago, Can easly kill birds and rabbits etc."
