"This is a good review of training techniques for shorthairs and English pointers, I would agree that it’s not that detailed and most of the training requires access to training birds. If you are starting with a pup try the ultimate retriever, it’s a lot more detailed. This is a good video for refreshing you and your dog’s skills though."

Pointing Dog DVD,April 4, 2008
By HuskerHunterfrom Manhattan, KS
"This is my first time I will be training a gun dog. I thought the DVD was a little too basic. I guess I was looking for some very detailed ways to train my dog. It seemed short and would be a good review if you know how to train a dog already. Slightly disappointing for what I was looking for."

training your pointing dog,October 15, 2007
By lc103from salt lake city, utah
"the trainer is telling what and why you shouldn't do things when you're training your dog, then right away he is in the field with the dogs doing just that. I was very disappointed with this product as the trainer will do this over and over again."

It's okay,June 26, 2007

"This video isn't the greatest. If you want some different Ideas on training your dog, go a head and get it. I wouldn't get it if it's the only video you plan to get though. This guy could be a lot better, you can even see his training flaws in the dogs. They aren't that steady. If you do get it, don't listen to him when he says to keep saying Woah. Big mistake there. You should only say it once, if the dog messes up, just go pick up the dog and set him back. Don't say Woah again. I'd recommend getting: George Hickox, Training Pointing Dogs. All four volumes on On Disc. Now that one is a GREAT Video. I got both of them at the same time. Frankly I was dissapointed with this one, the new complet pointing dog DVD. The other one is 100 times better. Hope this helped"

Training Video helps,May 8, 2007
By nahclm
"Overall, it was a good investment, I have bought several other dvds on the subject of pointer training and found this one to be one of the better ones. Lots of helpful information and several ways to teach a dog to "whoa", which is helpful when some dogs have a problem with one way. I would recommend this video to anyone who is considering buying a pointer in the future."

Good overview but lack meaningful meat,May 1, 2007
By NoviceHunterfrom Oregon
"Being a novice hunter looking to train my first gun dog, I found the introductory DVD helpful as an overview. However, I wish I had purchased the full set to take the overview into action. My sense is you know what you are doing, don't bother. If you are new to the training topic, don't go cheap buy the bigger DVD offering, buy a book and hopefully have access to someone that is skilled in this field."

A gun dog for the beginner, novice, & intermediate,November 20, 2006
By Sporterfrom Georgetown, Texas
"Having parents who reinforced that "You are allergic to dogs" and never having a family pet dog; It was natural for me to take up upland game hunting after attending Hunter Education Classes. I knew that someday there would be a pointing and retrieving dog in my future. With a friend ready to breed his german short hair pointer, Odin, It will not be long before I am bonded with a lifetime friend. The video starts from the beginning, is not assuming, and is just what I needed. It parallels all that I have read about sporting dogs, giving it a true sense of credibility. It chronologically starts the training from the dog's pup years to full grown sporting dog expectations. Whether you want your dog as a pet and friend, or strictly outdoor kennel dog, it is all there. The introduction to dominance, short training sessions for pointing, retrieving, steady to wing and shot, honoring, and introduction of firearms into the hunting routines, are concise and to the point. It is a valuable learning experience."
