Gun Dog Training Retrievers DVD Gets a Thumbs Up,March 10, 2009
By BSnipesfrom Great Falls, MT
"I recently purchased the Gun Dog Training Retrievers DVD, to add some audio and visual input to my gun dog training arsenal. I bought the DVD when my Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Tucker, was ten weeks old- and put its techniques to the test right away. The DVD covers everything from basic commands to advanced retrieves. One positive aspect of the DVD is that the instructor notes some differences in training techniques between upland and waterfowl hunting. I have used the techniques from the DVD in conjunction with gun dog training books and various other snippets of literature. In my opinion the DVD is extremely helpful, but must be used in conjunction with other mediums for effective training- especially for the novice or first time trainer."

Do not buy!,December 10, 2008
By Gmarshfrom Omaha, NE
"This DVD proved to be wothless when it comes to training dogs. The cover states that it will help you pick a puppy and start with the basics and work your way up. This does not happen. This is more of a showcase of the trainers dogs, he does not show training of any basic commands and his dogs cower every time he raises his voice. Do not buy this product."

A horrifying sight and a waste of money,November 9, 2008
By Lablover74from California
"This video deserves no stars. The premise of this man's training technique: delusionally accept cowering as obedience (check out his black lab). He doesn't teach a single solid training technique..barking orders like the dog is preprogrammed to understand and pulling the poor dogs around through the entire video. The production of the video, I might add, is less than what my 6 year old could create. I am so dissappointed that Cabelas would offer such a worthless DVD. Save your money."

Gun Dog Training Retrievers DVD,January 22, 2008
By rookielabtrainerfrom Mitchell, South Dakota
"This is my first time training a hunting dog and would not recommend this dvd to anyone. It only shows already trained labs and does not cover any of the basics on how to get there. I plan on spending the money for a good dvd, because a well trained hunting dog is priceless."

Old and outdated,January 22, 2008
By TheShadowfrom Hartford, CT
"I think my father actually has this on VHS. I doubt he has it today but I do recall watching this video about 20yrs ago and I know he bought it in 1984. This is old. Outdated. I was actually shocked to see this as it seems someone still owns the rights to the original production and is now re-issuing it. Anyway it is an interesting watch and that is all. Training methods are basic and old school. So if you are looking for e-collar conditioning, etc... skip this DVD. It focuses more on upland for labs. If you want to watch it for entertainment then go ahead. But as for the training it is very outdated and old. RIP to Ken Roebuck though. My father told me he visited his kennel back in 1985 in Copake, NY."

Not impressive,May 8, 2007
By Kiddclinefrom Utah
"Not the best DVD for training. Some small tips that are helpful but not worth the money. Boring and hard to focus on what is being taught."
