"I bought my boat 2nd hand from a guy who kept it on a trailer, so he did not have the bilge pump wired directly to the battery. I had to leave the battery switch on to keep current flowing to it which drained the battery as other equipment was also on it. So I bought this bilge pump and installed it directly to the battery, and I now worry less about the boat filling with water. It works GREAT, and my battery stays charged longer. NOTE: you must have the pump installed FLAT on the bilge, otherwise the pump float will not operate correctly. Also if you are not going to install a switch for manual operation of the pump you need to go on the internet for directions on how to hook up the battery wires, the mfg'er should have included this in their directions"
